- Hey Everyone,
Welcome back to another video of mine. I hope it finds you well. I recently took a 4 day trip to Singapore, one of the most magical places on the planet. I had been longing to go back since my original trip there in 2020 which lasted all of 24 hours. Singapore is what made me curious about SE Asia and in a way let me know I could be anywhere in the world in roughly a 24 hour timespan. There's something about traveling to the other side of the world for your first time and when you fly via Singapore Airlines like I did and land in Changi, the best airport in the world, it's truly an experience all on it's own. I had the absolute time of my life in this city state and it's known for being one of the most, if not the most expensive city in the world but I found it to be reasonably cheap with the exception of hostel accomodations. I don't drink or party so that could be why but overall most of what I did was free sight seeing and eating and of course working out. Singapore is a great stop if you're traveling through Asia for 3-4 days I would say. You don't need much more as it is quite small and you can really do the bulk of your sightseeing quite quickly but I think it's always good to take your time and enjoy your travels. I stayed at the Bohemian Chic Hostel in Chinatown which was around $50 USD a night which is pricey considering I've stayed at fantastic home stays in Vietnam for $2 with a free cooked breakfast every morning and much better beds but Singapore isn't Vietnam ;) If this is the first video of mine you're watching, welcome :) Thanks for hanging out with me and I'm wishing you all the best!

I'm from Zurich, Switzerland. My parents migrated to Singapore years ago and now they're both a Permanent Resident there. They're really happy living in Singapore. They said that Singapore is a "first-world country done right".
And their standard of living there is higher than when they lived in Zurich because Singapore's cost of living is so much affordable compared to Switzerland.

A small country, often bashed by its neighbours for being boring, expensive and small, but Singapore persevered and as the national song says, Majulah Singapore.
Toxic n bully will always try hard to put down and belittle their victim. We understand our small size, the only way to survive is persistence, never give up, be humble, and stay valiant against those who want to see us fail.
Far from boring and I found it quite cheap and everything I did was essentially free. I really don’t know the cost to live there. The hostel was the most expensive part! I had a blast!
I love Singapore, don’t care about any size. It’s an amazing place and I’d take a flight anyday!

Welcome to Sg. In ur next trip here, visit our non touristy areas & activities. Visit our public housing estates, ride bicycles around the entire island on our park connectors, canoe along Kallang River or Sungei Seletar area, tree top walk at MacRitchie Reservoir, checkout our last kampongs at Lorong Bangkok, take a ferry to Pulau Ubin to explore the layback island, etc.
Okay all of this sounds amazing, I’ve screenshot this comment so I know what to do next time around. I’m so glad we connected and hope on my return trip I am able to do all of these things. Sounds unbelievable:)

This is such a great video. It brings back so many memories and feelings I had when I studied abroad in Singapore two years ago. I still remember journaling at the waterfront where you were! I love to see others appreciate the uniqueness of the country, I think Singapore is definitely underrated in the US!

The humidity is brutal. An easy run in a temperate climate turns into a slog through soup in this humidity. You get used to it after a while though.
Glutinous chicken rice is indeed a different dish. Rookie mistake (literally)! 😅
I had the absolute time of my life and it definitely was a rookie mistake. It wasn’t until I went to the Hawkers Center that I realized I got the wrong chicken and I knew people from Singapore would comment and tell me I was a rookie, but it kind of makes it cute doesn’t it lol I could live with the humidity, good for the skin :) cheers and thanks for the comment my friend! I live in Tokyo and for me Singapore's humidity is so much more tolerable compares to Tokyo in the summer (as in right now).

The “glutinous rice” is actually a different dish entirely from actual chicken rice 😂. You can find a lot of good chicken rice stalls in hawker centres around Singapore! Hope to see you again here soon!

Sg is near the equator so the sun rays are a little bit more harmful. That’s why many people (mostly ladies) use umbrellas under the sun. Sunblock lotion is big biz here. 😅😅😅

Visited Singapore twice on vacation and traveling to Penang and Langkawi, Malaysia and Thailand this October. Consider travel to Malaysia, as hella cheap at 4.5 Ringgit per 1 USD.

Love your VJay + Personal views style of video. I used to solo travel too, like 25 years ago, In NYC for like 8 weeks, in San Francisco and Seattle etc as well. It is a totally different feel when you travel alone. Very different.

In a way it can be kind of sad because you’ll have these crazy stories to tell but nobody can relate or understand and in another way it’s amazing because you gain so much confidence and grow so much from solo travel! @@joshbetravelin Yes very different from all sorts of different aspects. I took a Greyhound from NYC to Pittsburg and also another bus to Ithaca after a 24 hour flight. It was very telling and learning experience. All the crazy experiences as well.

Glad you have enjoyed sunny island Singapore. Amazing that you adept the weather well with high humidity and still do workouts outside.
Hope Singapore has treated you well and will keep you coming back to Singapore. As you travel around the world to explore the world. Do visit other parts of the area in Singapore, things in some of the suburb areas are slightly cheaper than in the downtown. Do explore Jurong, Woodlands, Tampines, Punggol, Sengkang and etc to hunt for food in other areas. Definitely you will enjoy in suburbs. You can make new Singaporean friends in suburbs and can ask for advice about food and culture, usually they are friendly.

You know, I came off that 17 hour flight, super jet lagged and went right out into the heat and humidity and hit that first workout. It was brutal but I felt like a monster after doing it lol Singapore gave me the best experience. It was so beautiful and I made so many great memories. I can't wait to come back and visit all of the areas people have told me about. I unfortunately don't know any Singaporeans personally to take me around and show me places but so many people have left me kind comments recommending great spots to go, including yourself :) I'm counting the days until I come back and thanks again for hanging out with me buddy! That's the Buddha Relic Temple. It actually houses a part of Buddha's bone at the top level. The temple consists of the main prayer hall, meditation rooms & the museum.

If you ever get the chance next time, maybe considering exploring outside of the city centre and get a taste of how us locals experience our daily lives. Take the MRT to places like Punggol, Bukit Panjang or Jurong, I think you'll enjoy it 😁

Two places I’d love to go visit are Greece 🇬🇷 & Australia. 🇦🇺 holding me back is $ & the fact my husband doesn’t fly ✈️. But it’s ok. We are going on another cruise 🚢 in November on HAL San Diego to Mexico 🇲🇽 so I have that to look forward to. We live in 1 hour north of the SD cruise terminal so it’s convenient & no flights involved.

Hey Mary! Thanks so much for the comment! I hope someday soon you are able to make it to those destinations, I know they are pricey! Travel can be so expensive at times. I’m currently taking a break from the cruise life. I’ve been doing that for a long time and I think I just want to travel and work/stay in Los Angeles. You really do know Singapore allows shirtless outdoor workouts, haha. Fortunately for us, because even I do feel the heat greatly as a local.
The Nanyang coffee place you went to, that's a chain like Starbucks, selling Asian coffee and tea and food etc.
Some of the best coffee outlets are the ones that aren't branded. Definitely an assortment of Singaporeans to bring you around to taste.

That cafe in chinatown looked so chill, may i know which one it was? Also working out at the park looked so intense omg. I know the accommodation options here aren’t ideal at all but i hope you had a great time otherwise! To answer your question on where i would love to visit and what’s stopping me-
I’d love to visit europe one day because it has such rich cultures and stunning architecture and scenery. What’s stopping me is crippling fear of racist encounters 😭
It's so good! It was called Nan Yang coffee I believe! Apparently it is a chain coffee spot but I found it to be delicious and super chill. I had a fantastic time, accommodations didn't bother me at all, it was more so the price for the quality lol but I'm so happy you enjoyed the vlog and always roll the dice on food! You just never know!
I've spent a lot of time in Europe, I don't find it to be anywhere near as rich in culture as Asia or as fun but I hope you make it to your dream destination soon enough! Don't let the fear of racism hold you back, I doubt that will happen my friend! Go see the world!

@@joshbetravelin Take the Singapore Airlines (aka SQ) Business Class (they don't have first for the direct non stop flight) from SFO. The coffee at 7-11 mediocre at best; take the ones in the hawkers.
I have a love for 7-11’s from spending so much time in Thailand. I only drink it for the caffeine lol but I flew from LAX direct so I will check into the Business class. Was almost 17 hours!
