- Hey sailors
Today we go through 10 things I wish I had known before starting my cruise ship career.
It has taken me about four years and many mistakes to learn all the things I share with you today. Some of them you won’t be surprised by, but most of them are things YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW and won’t be expecting.
Hopefully, by knowing this information you will be better prepared for life on a cruise ship and won’t have to learn the hard way as I did.

“Roller coaster of emotions”. This gal could have that anywhere in any situation.
Sounds like she may have experienced the officer relationship thing
Steiners...
@@Sailor92 ahh She worked in the Spa! (Gift shop here)
Hhhhh yeah true
Well she is 🔥
She is a woman so of course she did
Terrific information . At one time I was interested in becoming a ship musician. Time moved on, I never auditioned. That ship has sailed .
😂cute
One of my friend's daughters worked on cruise ships as a singer and your honesty is so evident, so good for you.
I work on cruise ships as an entertainer for NCL. Going back for another contract next month... this is SPOT ON. Love the accuracy lol you definitely know what ship life is like 👌🏾
Hey bro i'd like ask you where you get the stcw diploma
I've always romanticized working as an entertainer. Your money is just making people happy. It must have it's downs too
Love your tunes, man! Keep it up!
@@chicagolc7022 yooo thank you!
Im glad I found your channel. I can't want until things go back to normal. Im sold on the shiplife... thank you
You are 100% correct on all these points. It's been almost 16 years since my last contract, but it looks like nothing has changed.
She has a big "Caution" sign in her, saying that as a land lover
The first thing I would like to say is, that this is the best suggestion if someone wants to be a cruisecrew! And from first that you mentioned! Be aware of it....like she said ..You are very honest and I love it! I used to be a cruise crew but yeah, so true. 👍 I will continue to watch this video!!!! Well made!!❤️
You're absolutely right about everything..spot on!!
Honestly... I have been surfing UA-cam for research and fun for over 15 years and I can't remember having as much FUN just listening to someone providing tips and info about cruising! Besides learning loads, it's truly ENTERTAINING and I love it!!! =)
I have been working on board a ship for almost 5 years now and you are so right. It is a weird place to work and definitely not for the emotionally and mentally weak individuals. It's been a roller coaster but no other day is ever the same which makes it interesting and fun.
I love the content in your video. All the 10 tips you shared seemed very helpful and I understand everything you said here.
I really like your honesty and your willingness to learn from mistakes. Getting your heart broken is part of life on land, too.
Very good info, we were passengers on a cruise when one of the female staff told us on “ on this cruise I’m gay on my last cruise I was straight” xx
Fantastic insight. I've just applied for a cruise job. Through to the 2nd stage. Eyes open on the hours and intensity. I think I will love it ! . Vibrancy and constantly needed is my kind of happy life. Seasick not such a good thing lol but nothing will put me off . Grab every opportunity in life to explore, grow and create memories xx
Wow, what a brilliant rendition, i just loved the way you presented, from a 63 year old i wish i had your skill 40 years ago. Well done and keep the info as easy to watch as this one.
I'm happy I'd get to know this tips before working on cruise ships! It's super helpful. I'm your new fan now😊. I hope I can work on cruise ships soon
How has it been?
I'm from Georgia in the united states', I love her accent . I have a country accent , but I could listen to her talk forever.
considering cruise ship employement for the very first time so this is useful a lot
I am so glad that I have discovered your UA-cam channel! You really deliver very very useful info! Thanks! Hearts xoxox
Very informative video. Thanks for creating it.
Your personality comes across fantastic ! Thanks for sharing
I love her personality! This vid was hella helpful I've got my interview for a cruise contract in a few days!
Perfect, good explanation i got everything i needed to know.
You’re amazing 🩵 I really enjoyed this video! Thank you
Well explained. Thanks for the insights.
Just founds you...already appreciate the info!
Amazing, thank you so much
New subscriber! you're a breath of fresh air. Love your cruise ship info and all around video presentation. Fair winds and following seas, m'lady.
I used to be a Guest service Supervisor for about 9 years and luckily mi contract was only 4 or 5 months and. everything you said si so trueeee but you miss something "the mafia" is when in a department there is a majority of one nationality and especially the ones in charge, they took advantage of their positions to give promotions, harassed staff, abuse and do whatever they want and the company pretends no to see it. Apart from that the traveling for free, the money, the opportunity to meet people from 65 different nationalities the bond you create with those people, the adrenaline is unforgettable. Missed those days sometimes but after all these years nothing compares to stay on land and live your life without pressure, stress, and at your own pace.
Thank you so much for the information. This is really helpful
I've been applying in a Cruise ship company hopefully my documents done as soon as possible
Wish me luck, once again thank you so much 💚💚💚
Thank you so much 👍
You're the best 🥰
No doubt that cruise ship life is difficult, but it is also amazing. I can only imagine that life on the se ships will only be harder post pandemic. Even tho that this might be someones exit from the great financial problem after the pandemic, this will be a very challenging times for crew. Will there be any shore leaves? How will the crew activities be organised on board with all the social distancing in place? There are many questions, but not so many answers. I am wishing you good luck in your future cruise ship endeavours and I hope that your heart will not be broken again. Love your video!
I really like your freckles however I love that you don't cover them up!
I dated a woman on a cruise ship before who worked on the ship and figured out that she was playing with several men at once... and decided that was not the life for me! I would rather be true to my heart!
Always to date at work is real worth .
Very healthy decision mentally for you
Dating people in the workplace is always a double edge sword..
Gosh, the make is Stunning! I love it.
thanks for this, really interesting. Makes me wonder if I will go now if I get the chance. You have a great presentation style.
I have got the job of customer support executive on cruise ship for the first time. I will be joining in a few months. The information you gave will help. Thanks a lot.
I can keep listening to you for hours 😊
Im workingin the cruise ship for 6yrs now. And i found myself so different from other ppl here at home. Some times i feel i dont belong here anymore. When i was in the ship i always say that shiplife is not my life but staying here at home for almost a year now i realized that my life is my shipslife. Cant wait to go back in my shiplife. 😢😢😜
institutionalized
At first I thought you were a Dancer on ships. I was a Showband musician on a certain Cruise line and the Entertainment department was mostly English, American and Australian. Everyone in other departments thought we were the lucky ones cuz we worked mostly at night and had some guest Priveliges. I used to grab free pizza up on the Lido deck after my gig. And of course there was the Crew Bar!! I became immune to Hangovers 😂 I still miss it in some strange way and still want to go back out to sea, so I know what you mean about getting hooked on it. I met my wife on a ship, she was a crew member so I’m stuck on land now. LoL
Lots of information, great video . Subscribed
I love your voice. Good info. Have fun and success always.
Thanks for your content lucy!
absolutely spot on. been working for American cruise lines for almost a year n half. about to head on over to viking cruises. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
I am a newbie and thanks for giving me a heads up! Stay safe
I found this video really really helpful......thank you for sharing this .
So happy you liked it!
Thank you so much for your efforts
Your magnet collection is amazing! 😍
Thanks you! It's my pride and joy 🤣
Thank you for information!
so true the cruise shit is another crazy work horse and i respect that been working for a few contract and i feel you
Love your freckles such a fan.
CAC, great content! thanks for sharing!
Really excellent info. …….thank you millions…
I just did seasonal work in Alaska (highly recommend) and a lot overlap. The workplace relationships and breakups. The worklife social life bleed over.
The difference is it was on land in Alaska so there were more bear and moose lol.
I love the videos.. thanks for the tips..
You are beautiful, Smart and full of energy, it's really nice and interesting to listen to your advices Lucy.. I'm looking forward to live the experience onboard a cruise ships .. so I'm excited and want to learn more about it ❤❤
Thank you Ahmed!
Good and informative content.
excellent and very informative video also interesting eye shadow tone
You are a great content creator. I want to see you grow!
Every single thing this girl said reminded me, with a jolt, of how I behaved when I was an officer on a cruise liner.
Different night, different girl, different bed.
A great life at the time, but not quite the way a guy ought to behave.
So be warned girls. Sheis not a bitter and twisted old cow. She is exposing us ships officers as the the immoral, lecherous bastards that we really are.
If men sleeping with many women is not good, what is your opinion of the women who let you?
@@bugwar5545 it's different because a lot of those women are young and naive ... they believe the lies .... and some if and when the guy tells them he wants to marry them .
@@gardensofthegods Nope.
A lot of young naive men get taken in by opportunistic women wanting that easy paycheck ... they believe the lies ... only to find that they are stuck with alimony and/or child support while she goes on to the greener pastures of her next meal ticket.
what a weird and twisted way to both brag and insult while "apologizing."
It's literally human nature. That's how there's 8 billion of us.
Loved the video.
Your channel is awesome! 🤩
Thank you so much!
I’ve been contemplating if I should leave my 9-5 job to pursue an experience working on a cruise. You’ve sold me I’m excited to start soon! wish me luck 😁
Good luck!
Update: DO NOT WORK FOR ACL 😭 My ship sucks anyways, the management is terrible and we are very short on staff so everyone is overworked 7 days a week at least 12 hours a day
What is ACL? X
Val Pal Ik this was 3 weeks ago but is it really that bad lol I’m thinking about trying it be jeez this was discouraging 😂😂
@@CruisingAsCrew America Cruise Lines. lol
Which is why I’m viewing this video. They’re immediately hiring and I’m… curious.
Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience, that help me so much!!!
honest truth from the mouth of the babe awesome video thanks.....
Recently finished a 3 year stint on cruise ships (pre-covid) as a very senior officer. I was one of the very few married guys who did not have a girlfriend on board:) Lets just say the moral standards on board aren't the best.
There's 3 main categories, those who do it because they have to (for instance people from third world countries who've been cleaning rooms on board for 20 years, just to put their kids through uni), those who've made a career out of it and are very happy with the lifestyle and their on board "family", those (like me) who tried it and left because it didn't suit their lifestyle. A lot of people leave during their first stint and then there's others I spoke to who tried shore side jobs, but hated it and returned to sea.
It's a weird place, either you love it or hate it:)
I work it IT (computers/sys admin). How are IT jobs on a cruise ship? Want to proceed with my career but get out of the office building lifestyle of it.
So true in all you says,I hated after 10 years, from a poor third world country and and didn't have a better choice at the time
D H very nice to hear of a married guy who wasn't cheating . Not all men cheat but a lot do .
I wish you the best....things will open up again .I appreciate your honesty. Are the workers mostly a certain age group?
Great content. I like your personality.. So unapologetic!
This video was in my suggested feed I have no clue why hahaha. I have zero interest in working for Cruise lines. Very cool video though and all your points completely make sense. Especially the point when you said when you're off work you're never really off work. Makes sense because you can't get away from your work, because you have to live with your work hahaha. Great video!!
Thank you so much!!!
Amazing experience on board
there is magic in your eyes💙
Thanx a lot for this wonderful informative video.....👌♥️♦️👌✌♥️👌👌👌
Thank you for watching babe
I'll be working in the once we start cruising again.
SO VALUABLE INFO! Thanks loads, Lucy!
Hey I finally found my passion! And I’m going crazy about it! I was wondering what job I could do as a 18 year old??
Hi Lucy. As soon as we land around the sea harbour or shore, don't we sometimes have thoughts like "there should be no dangerous sea creatures on the sea shore like jelly fish that stings or cat fish that bites". We should save ourselves from them.
Hey everyone, I will be on Carnival Liberty as guest service, my first contract, in september 2022, anyone there?
Thank you so much For this amazing and useful Video and Soul Sister pep talk ,much hugs to you , I feel more confident and comfortable as I begin my process for working aboard the cruise ships
First time, this channel already feels underrated.
Thanks x
Excellent channel. I have sailed on cruise ships 11 times, always as a passenger, never crew. Now after your channel, I feel like crew. :)
"Sally will always find out!". That actually scared me and I haven't said shiit.
Wow the first point! Defo been bitten there before.
Am joining the cruiseship for the very first time I hope it will be cool and Wil have the best experience ever
Can u plz update
Sally will ALWAYS find out! 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣I'm still laughing at this
youtube the e-therapist for venting
Great video
I think you just explained your list perfectly. I have been home now since may 2020 from covid but I have had a lot of time to reflect on my life. Your "10 things" list I just completely relate to on a crazy level !! I didn't like how personal and work like relate. Really didn't like that.........
I wonder how your experience differs from a 40/50 year old crew member.
Cruise ships are like Vegas. When you sign on may not be right BUT your expected to "put out
it's like a crazy vacation from reality.
What was it like as an 18 year old when you first joined? Were the rest of the crew quite a bit older than you or are there a lot of 18-20 year olds?
As an old man, retired U.S. Marine (and married to the same wonderful woman for 35-years), I find quite a bit of 'life humor' in this video...because what you've just described is a mix of 'sea life' (been like this for hundreds, if not thousands of years), basic 'teen dating' (oh, my...he lied to me! imagine that), military deployment service (where are we going now? combined with 'hey, that food is inedible'...and 'they aren't treating us right')...
Welcome to adulthood...it gets worse, until you figure it out and learn to live with it. Hey, at least no one is shooting at you for $800 a month!
BTW...my wife is stronger than most men...she doesn't pout, cry, throw temper tantrums or 'throw her hands up in surrender'...nope...she gets a 10-inch cast iron skillet and says, 'ok...now I'm only going to ask you this once, and then the pain begins'...THAT IS STRENGTH...especially when you figure out that NO ONE PROMISED YOU A FAIR LIFE.
$250.00 for me. that included overseas pay and combat pay.
as a landlover, she has a big "caution" sign regardless of being on a ship
Great video. I just accepted my first contract. Very interested to see how it goes!
Maybe come back here and let us all know how it is going
@@gardensofthegods yes please
My first contract will be on Carnival Liberty, in september, anyone there?
Cruises ship drummers have told me it is a great gig. 4-5 of work and boredom the rest of the day.
It's so funny to listen to you. It's like you are telling my story to the letter. everything you said is true and only a ship mate can understand you even emotionally.
😘
Yes
What about carnival cruise ship? I am scheduled for an interview as assistant store keeper
Great job! I've also been working in the Cruise Industry (River Cruises) for about 3+ years and everything you said is 100% true! Just curious what company do you work for? I'm changing companies now and tying to learn everything about the new company I'm joining :)
Amazing. I wish for Harding Retail xxx
I used to work on cruise ship and lucky for me after my first contract I decided to quite..Damn work like hell inside that ship.
It’s nice to know a lot about what your talking about but heart broken I don’t have to worry about that and am not that much of a drinker for me it’s all about fun and creating new friends and meeting people so there is a way you can save it’s hard but it’s worth it
Thanks for this video, i am Brasilian, 24 years old, and doing the curse for work as crew, I expect that my english be good for pass in the interview
Hello , how do you start to work on a cruise ship . I really want to work on a cruise ship
Very well said, all of it. Kudos!
dang i wanna be a cruise ships officer now.
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😅
Same here, the status
I've been working in IT (Computers) for over 10 years. I've been doing it an office environment and tired of office life. How is doing IT on a cruise ship?
There are different types of officers tho. I am one but from the guest services and only half stripe as well, so not every officer is the same :)
