    to me there is no better sound then the sweetness of an old Violin aged way before our time, as the aged wood from the trees it was cut from starts to sing for you one can feel the sweetness it has held just for your hands to express its long held beautiful tone to the world

    If you're going to use a transmitter with it, I suggest you get a lead made up with a right-angled jack at the violin end, which will make it easier to tuck the lead out of the way.

    Thanks for such a comprehensive demo. I bought a Hidersine recently for £180, which is quite nicely made and plays ok...but...I much prefer to amplify my acoustic violin as they sound, as the yamaha synthetic and rather nasal. I play both classical and jazz. Grappelli & Didier used acoustics. I'm also a jazz saxophonist and tried various electronic instruments but returned to the acoustic like all the greats.....

    The video I was watching was one done by a guy who had a site " The violin shop" and there he played several Silent violins without being hooked up to anything to demonstrate how silent they are but one violin he played he said it was the most silent of all of them and you could hear or not hear depending how you look at it how much more quiet it was. If I find the video I will send you the link.

    I am not an expert. Everything I have learned about Violins I have learned from you, Alison. You are right when you say this violin sounds "tinny". To my ear it cannot hold a candle to the timbre and resonance of a "good violin"--i.e., made of wood.

  • @chriskelly9653
    @chriskelly9653 4 роки тому +1

    Well what makes some silent electric violins less or more silent than others, this is why I asked about putting a mute on one.

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  4 роки тому

      Im not sure. what your asking here? All electric violins are pretty well the same. A silent violin is the same as an electric violin - they are just called silent violins, but are no more 'silent' than an electric violin.
      You cant put a mute on an electric/silent violin as there is no sound to stop ringing. Thats what I said in my last reply to you.
      You need to use electric/silent violins with amps. You absolutely should not ever learn to play on one with the intention of not plugging it in. You cant learn the violin by doing that,

      I have seen videos of different electric violins being used with no connection to amp, headset etc and some are louder or quieter than others .

    There is another electric violin for which I would be very interested in a review by you. It is called Sojing and definitely more on the affordable end of the spectrum for people with little money. Which makes it of course a high risk purchase, since as we all know, cheap instruments can be very hit or miss. It used to go for $100+ but now it can be found for around $70-$80. As far as I know there is a version with a wood body and another one with a plastic body, accordingly called EVW and EVP, though searching for these terms does not give many results.
    So if you ever come across one of these instruments, I would love to see one of your typical home made reviews for them (definitely no need to rent a studio for that ;) )

    Great review! Thanks.
    I really like the way this violin sounds. Most electric violins I've seen had some... I don't even know how to describe... sort of artificial (?) sound, not quite a pleasant one. This one is great though. Oh and "The Final Countdown" was brilliant! :)

      That would be great. Good to get as much information as possible before deciding on which one to get. I was thinking about getting the SV-200, but I found out from the store I am buying the SV-130 from that all the models sound about the same. I know I will be happy enough with the SV-130 for just practicing with the headphones and playing for family.

    Hi Allison (or anyone else who can help)! I got this violin to use for silent practice, but I haven't been able to play it much, because I can't figure out how to tune it. I don't own an amp, and when I listen to the violin through headphones I can't hear e.g. the piano I'm tuning to. What do you recommend? Can I tune it without anything amplifying being plugged in? Could one of those clip-on electric tuners help me?

    Hi Alison, I'm looking for a decent electric violin that allows me to plug in music on my earphones to play along, like this one can (that's with the aux-in jack, right?), but waaaayyyy cheaper. I know Yamahas are good but I just can't afford one right now. Meantime, I don't see why I should wait to buy a high-priced violin to be able to play on top of other music in my earphones. Any suggestions?

  • @c0mpuipf

    If you wanted to decrease/muffle the sound more ,would placing a mute on the bridge do it ,even with the violin plugged into nothing what so ever . I have a chance to get one . Is there a big difference in the loudness of the sound coming out of a SV130 compared to a SV140 in silent mode.

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  4 роки тому +1

      Muting an elec violin won’t help as there is nothing to mute. An acoustic violin is wood and hollow and that’s where the sound reverberates from - and elec violin is just that, so there is no sound to dampen.

  • @OmniHeIix
    @OmniHeIix 9 років тому

    Out of curiosity, for amateur or professional purposes, would you go with the SV 130 you demo here or for 2-300 more would you go with a Bridge like the Aquila 4 string?

    Hi Alison! Do you keep your acoustic violin in its case when you're not playing it? How about the electric violins? And bows? 😊 I'm going to buy an electric violin and I'm not sure whether to buy a case for it or a wall mount /holder... I always keep my acoustic violin and its bow in the case but I thought maybe an electric violin isn't as sensitive to room temperature changes etc... I don't know...

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  6 років тому +1

      Im in the UK and I keep my acoustic violin on a violin stand in my music room/studio. My electric violin is in its case since I only use it for gigs - not everyday playing so there is no need to keep it out gathering dust etc.

      I haven't tried any acoustic with Helicores. I have two cheap acoustic (chinese with prelude strings and used czech violin with E Pirastro Gold label another strings with D'Addario Zyex and Pro Arte.

    • @noi5emaker
      @noi5emaker 8 років тому

      oh ok, good to know. How do they all compare with regards to longevity?

    • @skharp5818
      @skharp5818 8 років тому

      Metal strings are last longer (Helicore and Prelude)D'Addario Zyex, Pro
      Arte are synthetic and not so long-lasting.
      According Fiddlerman Zyex strings review Zyex last longer than average synthetic core string. Gold label is gut string with metal wound and poorest longevity.
      Synthetic and gut string last longer if between playing loosing bit string tension. I am not an expert, beginner with violin.

    Hi Allison, I would be grateful for your opinion on whether the Yamaha SV130 is worth the extra £400 over the Cecilio CVEN in terms of weight, quality of sound, silent practice, quality of workmanship etc.. I am a complete beginner and am looking to buy my first violin, so would the Yamaha be worth the extra regarding future proofness? I am hoping eventually (after following your lessons and become good enough) to progress onto the Irish fiddle style of music. Many thanks, Graham.

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  9 років тому +1

      +Graham Websdale Yes and no. Whilst yes it is, as the CVEN is the equivalent to a basic student starter violin and the SV130 is more of a professional one, no, because I think its too expensive for what it is.
      I was temped to buy one at the time and I do still think its a really good elec violin, but its just not worth the price tag in my opinion.
      Sadly, there are either really cheap elec violin or really expensive elec violins and this falls in the middle quality wise, but the price tag is high end.
      I think if you want to buy an elec violin, you either go cheap, or spend the money and get an awesome violin. This is still in the middle, but priced the same as an awesome one.

    • @grahamwebsdale9453
      @grahamwebsdale9453 9 років тому

      +The Online Piano and Violin Tutor Thanks, you've helped me a lot. I had thought of buying the Yamaha and then if I noticed in 12 months time that I hadn't played it for a few months and decided to put it on eBay, I'd only lose maybe £200. But I now think that if I bought a Cecilio and in 12 months time put that onto eBay I would maybe only lose £100, so the Cecilio would probably be the better option (although I suppose that the proper option would be not to get to the situation where I'm thinking I haven't played it in a while). I read an answer you gave to someone else's question in which you said that it is better to learn on an acoustic rather than an electric, so I've had a look at the Stentor Student II you reviewed also.
      I think I shall therefore order the Cecilio CVEN 2BK and the Stentor Student II, plus one of those Stentor Ultra Mutes and a really cheap bow (so I don't rosin up one of the others I may have to send back), then ask my neighbour to stand in the garden while I play them both in the house with the doors and windows shut, and he can let me know which one is the loudest. I can then send the loudest one back. I'll probably also buy a stand or a wall bracket so I can leave the one I keep out on show, so it will remind me to practice.
      Thanks again, Graham.

    What would your opinion on using this particular violin in a street performance be?
    I am a little worried the sound may come out as though it was a recording on a crappy little phone,
    Is the sound I can here in this recording similar to what I would hear outside or would it sound more, nicer/fresh,
    Basically, would this be an ideal electric violin to use in a street performance.
