  • Detailed video on how we make up and build our big fish lines for the river to catch those big flatheads and blues. This is the best and most efficient way we have found to build lines in our 17 years of running the river. Make sure to look for the upcoming videos on what we use for bait and how we run them on the river.

i do commercial trotlines. mine are mainly for small fish. but we do it a lot different but pretty similar.. but you can easily make your line inside with a empty 5 gallon bucket to hold the line as you tie the main line up on your lap. and you can sit in chair and do it. though i also like a 2nd empty bucket to hold the main roll to help unwind it faster. river lines needs the bigger set up like you have especially dealing with current. and ya the size 24 line digs into my hands i got like permanent cuts on each index finger first joint where it bends on outside of hand lol. to repair a mainline or use a splice just tie a loose knot in one end of line first near where you want the swivel tie your line to line knot and then back the loose knot close and you wont have any extra knots on your line. i do 100 hook line boxes and like 6 boxes when i go out and a lot of times ill just link two together and do 3 sets. but sometimes i do singles also.

I bought some of the same stuff, but size #48, when I came to a splice I cut it out and tied the line back together with a triple water knot.

Splices can be made smooth and sleek by whipping with waxed whipping twine.

just curious, what's y'all's regs on em? I think we can have 2 lines with 50 hooks,or one line 100 hooks max.

If I use the clips on the droppers, it seems like the droppers will easily come off a swivel they clamp on to. Have you lost any droppers using the clips? I’m building a trot line this week and I bought the clips to make it easier on me but they don’t seem to clip securely to a swivel.

Yes, we have had some come off before. I personally don’t like the clips but Curt has used them for years and likes them.

Thanks. I set the lines today and checked them after two hours just to see how they were. Had a small blue cat on it:) just I clipped the clip and put it in the boat. Worked so nice.

Yes, that’s the nice part of the clips. Let me know how you do. Would love to see a video!

@@flohoutdoors1896 I’ll try to record checking lines tomorrow morning. I think I can rig up a camera mount.

put swivels in your main lines to keep fish from twisting your line off

We use swivels on our leaders and haven’t ever had a main line break. Are you meaning swivels on each end of the main line?

There's a trick I use to attach a hook to the line without a swivel and the hook will still swivel.

here in oklahoma, when we drop a trotline,we are hoping to get a 50 pounder.imo, you don't use these for lil fish.these lines are to get the big boys and in numbers.so over engineer that line.this is the tool of choice to pack out the deep freezer.better safe than sorry.
