There's only one thing better than experiencing a-ha's music, and that's seeing others discover the band. When the song and video were released in 1985, I knew the song from before (like the band, I'm Norwegian), but in a different version. When we got to see the video and hear the new version of the song we were blown away. It was unreal and every girl wanted to be the one in the video. A-ha is a fantastic band that has had many hits in Europe and South America. They released their eleventh album in 2022. That same year I saw them in concert, which was a wonderful experience. The follow-up to Take on me, "The sun always shines on TV" is epic, and although fans from all over the world recognize Take on me as a breakthrough song for a-ha, most fans would rank the song slightly lower on the greatest songs list from the band. I recommend that you react to more songs from the band, starting with the aforementioned sequel.
I consider Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to be a short film, not a "music video," so for me, this is hands down the greatest music video ever made. I remember seeing it in college when it was released and being so blown away by it. It was SOOOOO far ahead of its time in the special effects, the story telling, just everything.
I remember back in the days thinking the younger generation probably won't know anything about our music, well the day is here😂 Beautiful reaction!!🙌 #Nostalgia #GenerationGap #MusicLovers
The best pop song ever, just everything you want, the musicianship, the vocals , the tune, all perfect, not to mention Morten Harket, not too shabby !!! , 😉 👌 ❤....
Written by a-ha. Morten Harket is the singer. What range! 😃 Take On Me and Money 💰 for Nothing were 2 of the top music videos with animation in 1985. Suggested videos 📹: 1 a-ha performs Train 🚆 of Thought. 2 Dire Straits and Sting perform Money for Nothing live in Live Aid.
This video is great I've always loved it and the guys in the band are so gorgeous! Morten's voice is the best there is anywhere anytime. Watch "The Sun Always Shines On TV" and "Train of Thought" Then "I've Been Losing You". They have released 11 studio albums so there's plenty to choose from.
I remember watching this the year it came out and i was like wow this is different and unique. I thought it was the beginning of all videos being like this but it was a one off and i cant believe people are still looking for this video 30 plus years later
So glad you enjoyed this one! When this came out in1984 or 1985 it was really considered quite a technical achievement! I always enjoy watching this myself! Nice job on this!
First release of the song, produced to death by Tony Mansfield, 1984. It flopped everywhere but in the bands home country, Norway. Release of the Alan Tarney version with the video, 1985. Tarney went back to the demo version, and i collaboration with the band he saved the song.
hi, thanks for reacting to take on me by A-HA. I’ve been an A-HA fan for the past 39 years now they have produced the soundtrack to my life from this song in 1985 till present. They have released 11 albums though are a one hit wonder in the united states. They were huge everywhere else including the UK where i come from. A-HA are 3 extremely talented musicians and songwriters from Oslo, Norway. Their music is constantly evolving so no two songs sound the same. You should take a listen to A-HA’s mtv unplugged version of take on me it will make you cry. It’s so different to this one. This video is iconic even today. It was made by a technique called Rotescopy where two talented artists hand draw frame by frame 8,000 drawings then live action is shot. This is still number one in my top music videos ever my second being thriller by Michael Jackson. A-HA are criminally underrated and unappreciated esp by a U.S. audience. One of my other fave A-HA songs comes much later in their career and it’s called Summer Moved On. it’s best heard live and holds the guinness world record for the longest note held by a singer during a live performance . The song can be found on youtube. Take care 😘🏴 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️
Was looking for Ah-Ha on UA-cam then the reactions came up. I clicked on yours first. Love to see you guys enjoying the songs we grew up on in the past
This was so new when it aired. Videos were taking on new forms, new images. MTV (when it was new and actually played music!) was a huge platform for the advancement of music videos. Really miss that
Great song! Love this video ❤ Great band and Voice! All their songs are gems 💎 Please react to other videos: The sun always shines on tv, Hunting high and low, Manhattan Skyline, Stay on these roads, Crying in the rain, Summer moved on ( live at Vallhall) Thanks from Italy 🤗
Please listen to Manhattan Skyline from them. Just magnificent! You will love it! I imported all their albums not released in the US. Every album was worth the extra money to get them in my collection.
Oh, SUBSCRIBED!!! You young ladies were charmed as we were 40 years ago... Thank you for being so observant and touched. :D Looking forward to more!
Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it.💕💕💕
This song embodies and encapsulates the pop spirit of the 1980’s in just a few minutes!
I loved this song! It was a huge hit in the 80's! Such a great beat! We loved to dance to it! ❤
💞💞💞
You’re right this is quite possibly THE best music video of all time!
It’s deserving ❤❤
This is one of the biggest and best videos of the 80s, and it was helped by being for an equally great song!
💞💞
Actually it’s 1.8 billion views it’s under 40 million views from 1.9 billion, it gets on average 5 million views every week
Woohhhh😱
It's absolutely crazy how quickly the viewership increases. You'd think it would slow down, but it seems to be increasing in number over time.
Pretty certain I’m responsible for about 1 billion of those views… 😁
@@Selina42 😂🤩🥰
Now 7.5 million views from the 1.9 billion views

❤❤
Es la mejor banda y voz, que jamás haya escuchado. Aún las versiones anteriores a esta son divinas. ❤
This is definitely one of the best video ever made

It still is ahead of its time. You can replicate the love the art student put into the drawing and the transitioning.
It really was a short film. That was the point and what made it so special. The release was a genuine cultural moment.
Peter Gabriel is in the mix. His videos were always something special
Class of '89 here...stopped in just to see what your reaction would be. Your smiles said it all!❤
This has been my favorite song since I was a kid!
The A ha is an icon of the 80s, but for me they are timeless.
Brazilian greetings
success
Go watch the Acoustic version live. It’s amazing
I remember back in the days thinking the younger generation probably won't know anything about our music, well the day is here😂 Beautiful reaction!!🙌 #Nostalgia #GenerationGap #MusicLovers
The internet have graced us with the privilege to creep into your generation and enjoy your songs 😁
Thanks for the comment 💕💕
Now I felt old. This came out in 1985, when I was 15 years old and it was a big hit. Greetings from Norway.
I was 13.. I definitely feel old
The best pop song ever, just everything you want, the musicianship, the vocals , the tune, all perfect, not to mention Morten Harket, not too shabby !!! , 😉 👌 ❤....
Perfection ❤❤
it doesn't hurt that all three of those young men were beautiful !
Take a look at the MTV unplugged version from 2017. Morten Harket still had it then!
Probably one of the best videos and catchy songs ever made!!
💕💕

a wonderful song, and a clip that is practically a mini-movie... ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Norway rules the world now!
Great reaction, babes😊
On first release 308.000 copies. Big gamble for Warner. 2 guys in a small room put this amazing 'rotoscope' video together. Outstanding!
Great song! Love this video ❤ Great band and Voice!
All their songs are gems 💎

If I would pick one video to summarize a whole decade (80’s), this would be my pick!
They became a couple in real life, too😊
Am told there are siblings
No. She was his girlfriend at the time
Je me rappelle bien de la sortie de cette vidéo en 1985. C'était une prouesse technique extraordinaire pour l'époque.
💕💕
still my ringtone ...
Love the ringtone comment, brilliant 👏🏻 👌 😀
Yeah!
🔥🔥🔥🔥 - You should also check out their next 3 videos from this album 😉. Especially Hunting High And Low.
💕💕Thanks
Plis react The sun Always shines on T.V.
Wonderful video and reaction, girls ! A-ha always shines! Love from Brazil
5:36 The bashing against the wall is an homage to the movie "Altered States." 1980. It's a very good movie with great dialogue.
So many of you don't know what it was like before youtube and the Internet. You can just go on so many apps and places to watch videos and music
We are lucky 😁💕💕
lovely reaction!
I love your reaction! That's how I was when I first saw it in the 80's.
It's so good!🌸🌸
As a hardcore Norwegian a-ha fan, i must say what a cool reaction of your guys 🙏❤
Tusen takk ❤
My vote is, she never paid for that coffee
Yeah, she never did🤣🤣
just go back to the 80s and enjoy all of the great music:) u will be amazed
💕💕
Great 👍 review I don't know which is better the video or song? Both timeless.
I know right! Both are timeless
I think it took almost a year to hand draw each frame for the vedio to this
Rotoscoping is a lost art form.
💕💕
Please check out the song and musicvideo for A-HA: Hunting High and Low
💕💕
One way for free coffee
That’s right😁💕
🎼🎵❤💯👏👏👍
💕💕
There is a part two...sort of.
Really?
What happened to your reaction to “We Are the World” By U.S.A. for Africa?
Hello! Han you react to procul harum - a whiter shade of pale? I think you'll LOVE that track :)
Added!🩷
After filming the video they actually dated in real life
Wooh💕💕
You are going to be sad because the story ends sad on the next video. You must react to Aha The Sun Always Shines on TV
Really??? I will check that
And after that Train of thoughts because all 3 songs are connected as a trilogy.
Beautiful lips
wow u have nothing to do with this
Both of you are so freakin' Gorgeous, Damn 🔥
Thank you 😊
