The name Mamas and Papas came from the Hell's Angels. They were a fantastic group in the 60s. Great Harmony. California, particularly during that time, was the place to be.
You went full hippie on us, with the arms swaying in the air! You've got to hear (Mama) Cass Eliot singing lead or on one her songs. She had that gorgeous, pure voice like Whitney Houston and Karen Carpenter.

"They look like the cast off SCOOBY DOO, bro, I am DEAD!" Lmaoooooo! But I love how much he loves it! "When was this MADE, yo!? This is good, bro! Buckle your seat for this, bro!" OMG I love this kid.
Their story is crazy, Michelle was married to John and sleeping with Denny, while Cass asked Denny to marry her and was denied. Then John's story went really dark in later years.
Many people looked and dressed like them in the 60s...the era of peace and love....and you have to wonder what kids several decades from now will think about the way people dress now....think about it for a minute....lol. Great that you try a big range of music. Momma Cass died at a young age...sad because she could sing. That’s the kind of music many people listened to on our AM radios...back then
Back in the day, most young people wanted to come to CA. Songs about San Jose, San Francisco, Salinas and Hollywood lured them in. Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd was packed with young people looking for music and/or drugs. Everyone had long hair and bought their bell-bottom blue jeans at the nonconformist uniform shop. Now days, like a rolling stone, more people are leaving and talking about leaving than ever before. Times they are a changing. .Group. 5th Dimension Song: Aquarius It captures the time.
Remember that song? "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair, if you are going to San Francisco, you're sure to find some lovely people there", something like that?
The tallest fellow used to be in The Journeymen, but he met Michelle and broke that up to start The New Journeymen. In the beginning it was him, Scott McKenzie and Dick Weissman. Dick Weissman is one that is still alive in 2020. Scott McKenzie did "San Francisco" (wear flowers in your hair) Dick Weissman taught in colleges and has written a lot of books about music.

This song was from ‘67ish, and at the time, teens from across the country wanted to go to Cali. A lot of college drop outs as well. They all went to San Francisco to Haight-ashbury area. There were MANY songs written about this phenomena. A lot of these kids were run always who later became drug addicts and pan handlers after hitch hiking all the way there! But this was from the “Flower Children” period, you know, Peace and Love..........BTW, Scooby and his friends were designed to look like the Mamas and Papas!!!!!
You HAVE to listen to A piece of my heart by Janis Joplin! She is the 60s greatest artists. She Died too soon but her music is unbelievable and will always be the greatest!

A huge favorite of mine! This is yet another CLASSIC! 😁👍 The Mama's and the Papa's were another fine group. They were a folk group and many had quirky names back then. A GREAT one for singing all parts at the TOP of your lungs! There were LOTS of great groups and bands before you were born Sweetheart. You haven't even scratched the surface please, and California Dreamin was released in December 8, 1965.and one of my 45s (small hard vinyl.) Hippie music really, but still GREAT! 😁👍
Mamas and Papas when their first song in 1965 came over the radio ( California Dreamin) I knew in my gut it would become a hit. They went on to record many great songs. Anyway, that’s just a partial reason for my comment. Let me introduce you to my all time favorite pop group and pop song of all time and you and your subscribers will love it. It’s by a Australian group called The “ Seekers” and the song that they recorded was in 1965 titled “ I’ll never find another you.” And it became a worldwide hit. Over the years they performed it all around the world at least 2000 times and it has stood the test of time and been the favorite pop song of millions. The lyrics, the melody, the harmony , and the lead singer Judith Durham amazing perfect pitch voice is what turned it into a international monster hit. The version I would like you and your subscribers to listen to first ( 1964 a year before it was released )shows them in a recording studio with engineers and equipment and singing what was to be the final “ take” the accepted version that was released a year later ( youtube the one with the female on the cover , 1.3 million views and posted by rich 963). Now for the beyond amazing part!!! About 50 years later, after performing the song thousands of times, they performed it live again and SOUNDED JUST AS GOOD and the men were in their 70s and all had gray hair and Judith was 70 Years Old!!!!! And her voice was even better than her 1964 rendition!!!! Beyond belief. ( please youtube the 2010 3:17 Version again posted by Rich 963. where it begins with an interview then the song ). Almost 50 years and sounded just as good or better!!!! They went on to record many other hits. Please I’ve never begged before but please please please please please please at least Privately listen to both versions. It just might become one of your and your subscribers all time favorites. The lyrics are to die for!!!! All Iove still in isolation Al

That’s the kind of music many people listened to on our AM radios...back then
Check out Mama Cass and John Denver live together doing Leaving on a Jet Plane
Awww, now you're talking. What memories!!
PURE CLASS
That is great.
That version is incredible!
Great suggestion it breaks my heart
Roberta Flack “The first Time ever I saw your face”,
check it out! great music. I love watching your reactions!
It’s beautiful!
Yes yes yes!!!!
Mmmm yes. And Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's version of You've Got A Friend. And especially Donny Hathaway's Someday We'll All Be Free.
One of the most beautiful romantic songs of all time and Roberta's voice is flawless
Agree! Very moving song❤
LOL, they do look like the cast of Scooby Doo!
California Dreaming is my JAM! I have always loved this song. Glad he appreciates it 🙂
One of the most popular groups of the 60s.
One of the most haunting songs ever recorded. Nice to see it's still got some power to it.
Times they are a changing.
.Group. 5th Dimension
Song: Aquarius
It captures the time.
That was before Kalifornia was turned into a turd world shit hole.
That was the #1 song when my fiancee was born. Mine was happy together from the turtles
@@armadillotoe Stay away! California is too cool for you.
Don't forget the Monterey Pops! Could get quite the education just going through the lineup!
Oh The New Journeymen became the Mamma and Pappas
I'd like to see your reaction to Roberta Flack's, Killing me Softly. Even the Fugees version is excellent.
Don't love the Fugee's cover compared to Ms. Flack, but...it has its merits. At least it's Lauryn Hill.
Yes please, Roberta Flack!
omg that would be amazing!
Then Al B Sure
It's so wholesome and makes me so happy seeing y'all being open to different times and cultures, and vibing with these oldies and classic rock and not just shrugging off your shoulder. Good music is good music, no matter the genre. Love it
The man singing lead was Denny Doherty, from Halifax, Canada. The young blonde girl is the mother of the blonde singer from Wilson Philips.
Chynna Phillips is her name and half sister of actresses Bijou and Mackenzie Phillips.
And Etobicoke ont.
The tall guy is Chyna's father
Denny Doherty also briefly sang with The Moody Blues.
@@sweetmarie72ply No he didn't. You're thinking of Denny Laine, the original lead singer of the Moody Blues
These young men's personalities are almost perfect. A reflection of their great parents. They did a great job raising you boys, they have to be extremely proud
Mamas and Papas had some of the best harmonies in history.
I'll give him an A for admitting he never heard this song before, even tho he's about 60 years behind the times. One of the top 10 greatest rock songs of all time.
This song had many a young person moving to CA. They would pack up the car, van or hitch hike!
This song is in my phone Now!! I lived out there...California Song 4 sho...🌴💫🌴🤙
One of the songs that called me to CA
I may have been one of them back in March 1988 :-)
OMG!! “The cast of Scoob-doo.....”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I never ever thought that until you just said it that was brilliant and I’ve listen to this song since I was a kid born in 1970...literally BELLY LAUGHED with you!! Thank u !!!!
Me too!
Me too
You just can’t unsee it! 😂

He was reading the comments on the video of rhe song and someone on there was saying they looked like the cast of scooby doo !
This was one of my most favorite songs. I’m so glad ur listening to this beautiful song.
Young man, you have me smiling the entire song. You really got it goin on!
And Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival.
She screams. Not the 60s I like. Give me harmony and ballads and musical instruments... The drugged up wasted screaming was not music
@@terrimobley6067 Shut the fuck up then. Not your cup of tea? Fine. But DO NOT trash somebody for expressing themselves through song in a way you deem 'trash'.
Janis Joplin is a must, must “Piece of my Heart”!!!
Summer time
Sweet memories of the days of peace, love and hope.
It is so refreshing to have the music of my generation still growing and captivating people - it’s timeless - I love this channel- thank you
One guitar and four voices from heaven. Awesome.
Love You.....Adorable....! They were awesome, Back in The Day....!
Oh hell YEAH! The harmonies and sheer production value is legendary! More M&P's!
This is my favorite song by them. I love that you are open to many different types of music and I love to see your reaction!!
I’m so glad I found your channel 😃 I love that young people today are discovering and enjoying the oldies.
Oh Tim, you are so funny and so adorable! Bring me lots of joy as you react to music and let us enjoy it with you!
This is like one of my favorite songs of all times!!!!🔥🔥👏👏👏💯💯
A huge favorite of mine! This is yet another CLASSIC! 😁👍
The Mama's and the Papa's were another fine group.
They were a folk group and many had quirky names back then.
A GREAT one for singing all parts at the TOP of your lungs!
There were LOTS of great groups and bands before you were born Sweetheart. You haven't even scratched the surface please, and California Dreamin was released in December 8, 1965.and one of my 45s (small hard vinyl.)
Hippie music really, but still GREAT! 😁👍
One of the best songs of all-time, at least for me. I just love it. The harmonies, the vocals, the vibe as you said, just amazing.
This was released in 1965. React to "This is Dedicated to the One I love". Mamas and Papas were HUGE in the mid to late 60's.
My time, my favorite group.. thanks for listening.
I'm watching your reaction to this again after you initially posted it two years ago. Still love it! 😊❤
OMG! One of my favorite reactions to a song! LMAO-Love it! ❤️🙏
Suggestion: "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel. Try it.
THIS. PLEASE. Song writing at its finest.
Would love to see this reviewed!
For real. The Boxer is amazing! Love Simon and Garfunkel.
Hell yes!!!
The only band in the 60s that people remember the women more than the men.😁
Mamas and Papas when their first song in 1965 came over the radio ( California Dreamin) I knew in my gut it would become a hit.
Please I’ve never begged before but please please please please please please
at least Privately listen to both versions.
It just might become one of your and your subscribers all time favorites. The lyrics are to die for!!!!
All Iove still in isolation
Al
