    If only I had a garage.. and I wasn't stranded 600 miles from home! My zuki is in the shop right now getting loved on by someone else for a transmission bearing that went out. Great video, very relaxing under these stressful moments of spending money on someone else to fix my baby. Thanks!

      Once my father and me took a trip to our country home 100 miles away with 30 years old Nissan Vanette that was sat 2 years outside on the parking lot. After these miles we had problems with clogged fuel pipe leaking coolant clutch and ignition, all this at the same time is pretty much a nightmare. I wish you luck!

      Haha so mechanics came up with a nasty bill over $1400 US to install rebuilt transmission. I told them to shove it. Ordered a new stage 3 clutch, flywheel, clutch cable, rebuilt transmission, dusk/inspection cover, and rear main seal for $1000. Working in the dirt parking lot outside my motel in the freezing cold. Still stranded, waiting for the rest of my parts. I'll get home someday, lifes an adventure :-D

    20 yrs ago I had a 83 SJ410. I had one box with a bad reverse and the other with a bad 3rd gear and 2nd syncro, with both I made one good gearbox. They are straightforward to work on. Anyone can do it with attention to detail.

    At first, when you were driving around, it reminded me of St. Petersburg, Russia, only apartment buildings near you are smaller. Now I realize that it is Estonia. Funny thing - when I am in Russia, everybody thinks I am from Estonia, because my accent must sound Estonian - so I guess we share this. I also have a Samurai, 1987, with noisy gearbox and probably transfer case also. Thanks for video - feel more confident that I can do this.

    • @TTR83
      @TTR83  10 років тому

      I'm curious do you speak estonian I realize you're russian. Probably you've been in Tallinn or my name reveals.

    • @volvosan
      @volvosan 10 років тому

      Taimo Tõnisson I am American, from Russian & Belorussian family. I learned Russian in school and from going there. After 10 people, one after the other, all guess that you are from Estonia, you start agreeing with them, just to make it easier. Then my Russian buddies (as a joke) started telling people that I was from Tallinn, and so I started to feel Estonian - this is the strange truth. Now perhaps I should go to Tallinn to complete this story.

    No problems at all getting the shifter out when it`s in gear. But why it happen I think that gear lever another end which is in the gearbox and moves gear shift fork shafts is worn out. I mean this ball shaped tip. To prove it take the shifter out and try to line up shift fork shafts (01:09) using screw driver. These will move back and forth.

  • @Jarrodwaddell
    @Jarrodwaddell 11 років тому

    Samurai shifter bolt is a known failure part. Replace it, or upgrade it. "Trail Tough" has a kit that provides a solution.

    great video man! i have a samurai jx 86, and 1st, 2nd and reverse are sometimes hard to switch.. do you have any idea what could it be? also when the car starts to move in 1st gear i feel a vibration or something shacking inside the car :/... im taking the car to the mechanic this week but i just want to know what do you think.

    • @TTR83
      @TTR83  9 років тому

      +Adrian Tazz Hello! If 1st, 2nd and reverse are hard to switch I suspect clutch. Vibration may be caused by clutch disc/pressure plate it may be worn out but also it may just be oily.

    Hi Taimo ...... I can't get into reverse..... (SJ413 LWB). It has been an intermittent problem but has sorted itself out before, but now seems set ..... gear lever hits a kind of 'block' feel when I move it across to the right in neutral, I wondered if you might have an idea what the problem could be on that little information. I'm getting a bit despereate to sort it out! ( I have yto park so I can always drive off forward. I'd be very grateful if you had any thoughts on possible causes. Thanks very much .....

    • @TTR83
      @TTR83  8 років тому +1

      That orange paste is silicone sealant. 11:32 I take socket extender and measure how much it goes into clutch. Then I take a lot of tape to make it precise to align clutch before I tighten the pressure plate I had no decent tool for that. 14:40 adjusting the clutch/cable.
