40 years ago the song hit #1 on both Billboard's Hot 100 and Hot Country Tracks charts. This song crystallized the truckers' CB jargon into the minds of everyone. We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy cross the U.S.A. Fabulous song.
I remember leading a convoy of about 10 trucks for about 30 miles on I-40 East through Tennessee and North Carolina. Made sure to cue this song up for the occasion. About the only time we follow each other like that nowadays is if there’s a bunch of company trucks that can’t pull a hill.
This movie still ranks as my favorite trucker movie! Right up there with the original "Smokey and The Bandit," Chuck Norris' "Breaker, Breaker," and the TV series "Movin' On."
If you recognize the publisher credit, and the name Chip Davis, you get a high five. American Gramophone is now Chip's music label, notable for the Mannheim Steamroller albums. This was also the beinning of the end for the MGM label, which would later roll its' catalogue and artists over into Polydor. Gloria Gaynor almost fell through the cracks in this process; originally her album was an MGM imprint, but the single "I Will Survive" ...well, survived.

I was 14 when this was a hit. It got me into CB, Later I got into Shortwave (and Broadcast) DXing. Been a radio "geek" since!

The winter of 1975-1976..remember it well. This peaked at # 1 the week ending January 10, 1976 for 1 week. Virtually unheard on the radio today.

I got this 45 today, and it’s the same promo copy rather than a stock copy. The stock copy was on a blue and gold label.
