Yeah, Toriyama didn’t really put too much depth into his stuff. Anyone saying otherwise is looking too hard into it. I mean come on, he started his career with a manga about poop jokes. It would probably get the same treatment if it were more popular.
Random, i know, but: Can you watch the video of ‚Illuminaughtii’ named ‚ What is The Flat Earth Society? Corporate Casket’ fully and till the end and then tell me your honest opinion, especially about the end-thoughts?
I think the reason the apex of bell curve is contained within the "Meh" category is because of how subjective good shit is. As a result people gravitate towards using more objective things like popularity and sales to determine a work's worth. Garbage might be garbage, but "Meh" is the lowest common denominator.
I've learned more useful information in these lectures than I have through 5 years of getting a Master's degree. Knew I should've applied to Ligma University earlier!
I think that's something that needs more investigating. The study of how nostalgia affects the brain and how it overrides the logical side of the brain.
The fact that you are reading that time I got reincarnated as a slime AND overlord really makes this whole video so much better because they are both great light novels and anime.

Professor Lando, I have found methods of removing the low-standard lobe. @@michellemarsh1510 manhuas gave me trauma, i almost became dyslexic from reading the countless amounts of badly translated isekais that I had to take a 4 month therapy
Listen to the class again, he metioned that is safe to assume that the term 'weeb' nowadays refers to anything related to manga/anime and etc So even if it has a different name, is basically the same thing as manga
Prof. Lando I would like to add, if I may, that I am firmly of the belief that the term "weeb" has far less negative connotations than "weeaboo". A "weeb" is simply an enthusiast of anime, manga, and the like, while still potentially living out a normal life and enjoying other hobbies, possibly even exercise. "Weeaboos" on the other hand often forego showering, are obsessed with Japanese culture as a whole, and often lack social skills! Thank you for your time, and as always keep up the fantastic lectures at Ligma U!
There seems to be some misinformation in this lecture. Light Novels still contain pictures, but they are much more infrequent. Of the texts I have studied, most just have one image per chapter, but there could be more. They are full page, and make it a lot easier to imagine what the characters look like, especially those who aren't on the covers.
Great video. Very informative. If you haven’t watched much world trigger you might like it, it has a slow build up but it keeps ramping. That said I agree that nichijou should get more love.
The low standard lobe is what makes Dragon Ball fans emphatusted with that series where "I'll defeat this new enemy with this ultra mega Quadra hyper never ever seen before power that'll also change my hair color"
I remember attending a weaboo 101 class a few years ago, the lecturer was a pretty cool guy; Professor Frank iirc. The things he taught me that day has helped me navigate the absolute minefield that is anime/manga fandom and even saved my life at times. Unfortunately, he retired from teaching a few years ago, but from what I hear, he's doing music now, and is doing it pretty well. I hope he's doing alright.

World Trigger slander. Sugma's course actually teaches a course specialized on it and why it is underrated. NIchijou may be in the upper class of comedy anime, but World Trigger if anything outclasses My Hero, I may have to revoke your teaching license for that.
I don't have a degree yet but I have done some studying out of interest and according to my theorem the dragonball curve only looks weird because your normal distribution does not have a time axis. In the before time, before streaming or even affordable export DVD bootlegs, there wasn't a lot of source material that had been excavated yet and even less that had actually had its research spread outside of Japan. In that time Dragonball was perceived as 'good taste' and dragon ball Z as solid 'meh' tier with mass market appeal. As meh tier artifacts continue to be excavated further there is an almost inevitable correlation with a decline in quality from 'meh' to 'garbage' however because of the rosy retrospection effect (which can also be observed outside of anime related media) it remains almost similarly popular compared to meh tier, usually seeing only a mild decline. If you reworked your model to account for both the existance of franchise to link artifacts together as well as the passing of time between roughly the early 80s and now you could actually include a predictive model that accounts for effects like the dragonball super line in your lecture. Though perhaps this is a touch too advanced for a 101 course, seems like more of a second semester thing.
