    Halle Berry did not need to go that hard for this movie. She did not need to sniff that catnip with that level of intricate layered acting.
    But she did. She did it for us.

    I actually really like how the final villain was indeed not just the rich white man, but also his wife. It didn’t paint all women out to be victims, and while the wife was in a bad situation, she still held power over other women for both being white and rich. It’s incredible

    I personally feel like a lot of people have trouble distinguishing a “bad” movie from a “fun, campy movie that was a product of its time” and that’s exactly how I’d describe Catwoman! Hollywood will definitely never make a movie like that again and there’s something really cool about that. It’s one of a kind and entertaining, that’s what movies should be! (:

      I find it interesting how the same people talking mess about this movie love movies from the 80s and THOSE were extreme campy and cheap looking while also being fun. It's like people think the 2000s were supposed to have high quality movies suddenly when things like CGI were still in the early stages.

    The funny thing about Jennifer’s body is that the company that was in charge or marketing it deliberately ignored the advice of the directors and producers who told them that the target audience was young women and women in general, bc they (the company) thought the best way and the only way to market the film was to market it to straight men

    I think the main thing with this movie is that it is very clearly filmed through the perspective of the male gaze, which.... true. So it definitely wanted to show an empowering woman, but because of the time it was made, still had to do so within the confines of the cinematic rules in that time i.e. the male dominant film industry, which resulted in a movie that was clearly for girl but was advertized to men. because let's be honest, would you really have gotten a super heroine movie in 2004 if it was not also horny?

Another great video btw.😊
    Also I do believe misogyny & racism did play a part in why people didn't like the movie but I'm sure some people didn't like it because I'm sure as you may know the fandoms will wild out if a writer rewrites or goes off script with a character people are familiar with & DC Catwoman has a large fan base so the fact the this movie was labeled CATWOMAN & had little to nothing to do with Gotham or Batman, I'm sure that made people get up in arms about why they dislike this movie as well.

    I was the little curly headed brown girl with glasses who was absurdly socially inept and sort of floating through life, at the time this movie came out. This movie SPOKE to me. It was bright, fun, campy, and empowering. It showed child-me a character who looked like me and took charge of her life. I was never a cat person and was obviously not interested in being “sexy”, but I was interested in learning how to be confident. Also, the soundtrack was iconic. I stand by that. 2000s club music meets typical movie soundtrack themes. Love it.

    I feel it could have been directed better...but I mean...I loved the Catwoman movie..t.he personality Halle brought to it and her dynamic with Benjamin Bratt was great...an underrated movie
    also edit: I've been reading how halle Berry spoke about hwy did it have to be a makeup company and what not...and honestly, that was my favorite part. I got to see an anti-hero I admired (catwoman) played by a great actress (Halle Berry) take down one of the most harmful industries to AFAB people (the beauty industry) and to me...I thought that was amazing.
    Like...no, she didn't take down the man and omg we solved racism and misogyny in one flick...cuz that's unrealistic and honestly...it's pedestal placing. But she took on an industry that's long preyed on afab people by pushing high to nearly impossible beauty standards as the minimum and guilting those who don't meet the "conventional standard of beauty" for being born "unconventionally beautiful" and you know what...
    I was proud of Halle Berry taking that down....and while many will complain about that...to me...at a time where I was being pushed by those same beauty standards and feeling guilty for not being an all around girlie girl and not being made up enough and told how hideous I looked to the point where it apparently angered my sister how "ugly" i was...This movie will always have a special place in my heart. Just for that. IT meant a lot to me.

    Oh my gosh I'm so happy this wasn't a BAD movie and a beat because I honestly would have thrown hands I love it so much 😭 as a really shy art girl growing up I was IN LOVE with Halle Berry's Catwoman. I'm a fan of super hero stuff in general and I did not give one single care that they went so far off from Batman's Selene Kyle Catwoman. I appreciated this movie as the separate and totally individual masterpiece that it was. The actors, the outfits, the way they animated her running along walls!? Ugh. Perfection. And I stand by that.

    I love the movie and it’s: “Be unapologetically you” symbolism. There are a few things that I would have changed about the movie:
    -Catwoman’s outfit for it to be more practical but stylish
    .-The company Beau-line having mob ties, what exactly IS going into the Beau-Line product, and where are those dangerous and what we can assume to be illegal materials/drugs are coming from
    --And to cut down on the flashing lights and dizzying camera work
    This brings me to another point about how cis-men have an issue with Catwoman.
    Cis-men will always compare Michelle and Halle’s Catwoman all the while bringing up comic book accuracy and sex appeal...Like they aren’t two sides of the same coin about breaking free from the misogynistic expectations that men have put on women.
    Selina Kyle was a orphaned thief who was inspired by Batman’s costume and the power it gave him so she decided to take up a cat persona. Not to mention she didn’t have to die in order to have this dominant personality. She’s always been that way.

    • @MOMOHEARTS
      @MOMOHEARTS 2 роки тому +16

      Her outfit maybe and flashing lights definitely
      Idk about the camera cause it was different worked with the movie but I understand why calm it down a bit
      Though I would keep everything else
      I liked that Beau-Line was its own evil without needing outside help from a mob or whatever
      It's just a beauty line that wanted to get richer with bad morals which is normal in this day and age lol

    • @Gemini053
      @Gemini053 2 роки тому +9

      @@MOMOHEARTS Understandable. But you see how quickly this movie would have been a hit, I don’t know why people complain about the plot because it works with Selina Kyles Catwoman. She’s all about protecting the people of Gothams East End (the poor people, orphans, strippers, hookers etc) and if this was a problem in her little city she would have dealt with it.

    While I agree that misogyny definitely played a part in this movie's criticisms, it was also pretty likely because this Catwoman acts nothing like the original Catwoman. Then again they NAMED the protagonist "Patience" instead of Selina Kyle so maybe that was the point 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 2 роки тому +83

      YES!! Like I honestly think if they ACTUALLY made a Catwoman movie about an Anti-hero cat burglar then it could legitimately hold the name. Just like any other peice of media based on pre-existing Comic Book material how much you embrace or reject the source does matter. The poster didn't say "Patience" it said "Catwoman", a pre established character that Patience was not.
      I am sure there is mysogyn and racism in some of the hate. Plenty of us female (black) comic book nerds would like a Catwoman movie about...you know...Catwoman. which this wasn't. I could care less if Catwoman is black or white or whatever.

    • @asimplemoth5342
      @asimplemoth5342 2 роки тому +32

      Yeah I think a lot of people mistake it for a Batman movie and judge it as such instead of watching it for the movie that it is. I know that was certainly my hang up on it until I watched the movie later in life.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 2 роки тому +51

      @@asimplemoth5342 Well I also think racism kept this from being an actual Catwoman Movie (yes, I hear people shouting 'Ertha Kitt' from the shadows). If you actually watched 60s Batman you'll see how much the writing changed between Julie Newmar and Ertha Kitt Catwoman in the hopes the audience wouldn't reject a non-white Catwoman. With this movie, on one hand they wanted to sell the Star Power of Halle Berry and KNOWN name of Catwoman, but after the success of Phiefer's Catwoman were afraid to make Halle ACTUAL Catwoman (Selina Kyle) most likely because she was non-white. I think I'd be more likely to give this movie a pass if she WAS Selina Kyle. Making her not Selina is exactly where the problem starts. It gave them a safety that if anyone criticized anything like her being black (or more accurately BiRacial) they could use the excuse of "well this isn't actually *the* (white Catwoman), it's another Character who just happens to also be called Catwoman." The audience didn't make this a Batman universe movie, the advertising and the aestic did EVERYTHING to call back to the Burton-verse Batman films while trying to also 'do it's own thing' by not being actually in the Batverse.
      The reason why Miles Morales actually WORKS as a reboot of Spiderman (who happens to be black/Hispanic) and it is a GOOD Superhero Comic Book movie is because they don't ignore the comic book. Peter Parker is in the darn movie and passes the torch to a new Spiderman. Though there is no race shakeup, this is also why Batman Beyond works as well, though Terry McGinnis looks a lot like Bruce what really makes the character work is he is mentored in by Bruce allowing the audience to ease into a Bruce that's not Batman. Leaving out the Batman/Gotham element in Catwoman was actually a mistake and has almost always failed in every Gotham related property that tried to write around an absent Batman element. And you can't use the name 'Catwoman' without people being annoyed that you are trying to have it both ways. Both do a new character, but ignore the universe of that character's origins ENTIRELY.
