Hi, my builder has fitted a brand new worchester bosch 32cdi compact combi boiler, which has heating and water temp controller built in. I have no thermostat connected to it. I purchased tado thermostat and extension kit. The builder has fitted this and i am trying to pair it all up. What option do i choose? Same as urs when ur 12mins in? Does the extension kit have the auth code and serial number printed on the inside? As mine has no exterior labels like the bridge and thermostat. With the tado app, can you control two homes within one account? For simplicity i created a new one but would be handy to control mine and parents home without logging in and out every time. Your help would be much appreciated!
Great video...I have their starter kit V3+ wireless thermostat with hot water. Can you tell me for my Baxi 836 to work opentherm with the TADO, what else do I need to buy to enable that please? (It is a combi boiler so i don`t need the hot water facility of course)
@@Ultimagtr650 apparently I’m told the boiler has to be modulating, also I’m finding some installers are not familiar with the wiring so they stick with relay on/off.
Yes you can - you can set your timings any way you wish and it also uses your geolocation to turn the heating off if you leave. You can connect multiple devices - so my wifes phone and my phone are connected. I usually work from home - but if i go into london for the day the heating system automaticlaly knows and sets the heating back. It also knows when i'm heading home and gets the house warm in time for my arrival.
Hi wondering if you can help me please? I have a combi boiler and a wired room thermostat downstairs in the hall and another wired thermostat in the master bedroom. What Toda kit do i need to replace the above? Many thanks
I’m sorry - that but was so fiddly I couldn’t get the camera into position and do it at the same time :-/ I have a head camera now so I’ll just use that on similar projects so I find not miss anything - sorry
Great video and really helpful. We have ordered a thermostat, bridge and two radiator valve. Do we need to have an extension as well or can we remove the old one from the kitchen and operate timers and boosts via the iPhone?
Usually its recommended to leave the existing timer in place but set it permanently on - and let tado turn the heating on and off via the thermostat control. You will need an extension if you want to control your hot water via tado.
Great video. Have you ever come across a tado extension tripping the fuse? Our fuse keeps tripping and the boiler people say it's not the boiler, only other thing on that fuse is the Tado Extension.
Can I ask you what is the best smart thermostat for a 2 bed flat that currently uses an old style Vaillant combination boiler without a wall thermostat, heating 11 radiators please?
Good demo thanks....I'm assuming Alexa can change the temperature on the room stat with voice commands.... can it also change the temp settings on the individual rads if there are smart TRV`s installed?
Brian Rae I’m afraid I don’t know that. I would guess that each TRV would become a Thermostat in a HomeKit room - so Siri could adjust the space - but I’ve not got Alexa so I don’t know how that works - sorry
Hi mate, thanks for this great vid learned quite a lot here. Annoyingly i can’t access the installation guide without a QR code. I wanted to see if I’d need to wire anything as my current boiler has the tools inbuilt to communicate with the thermostat (it’s not a separately wired bit next to the boiler). Any ideas as to whether I’d need to wire Tado into the boiler or would it be able to communicate directly with it?
@@StuffAboutStuff cheers for the reply fella, might give them a call but judging by some of the reviews of their tech support over on Amazon it doesn’t look like a good service!
I just switched to a tado tariff with my energy supplier which gives me the starter kit. I have basically the same set up as you except I dont have a hot water tank as it's on demand, therefore the hot water part of my timer is redundant. I assume I dont need to purchase and replace that with the extension box, I can just replace the wall thermostat with the tado one?
I have put two thermostats in my home, living room and kitchen, all was well until it start with an almighty racket coming from both radiators, a very loud vibrating sound which stops when I take the tado off and put the original thermostats back one. Any ideas why?
Hi, this is a dumb question that has nothing to do with the Tado products but about the video edition: Which software do you use to edit? because as you did in this video I'd like to mask some datas in my videos, but I cannot find a decent video editing software for that. Thanks ;)
A Clapham it’s different for each heating system - take lots of photos - call their tech support and they’ll help you ;) Their tech support is excellent
02semiata yes you can but I think you’ll need an additional thermostat - contact their tech support and they’ll be able to help you. Another way to do it is to fit tado radiator valves in every space but you might still need to thermostats and an extension kit to achieve that.
StuffAboutStuff I just called them and they said their extension kit only supports two channels and I wouldn’t be able to use it to replace my current 3 channel system. I wanted to buy two Tado thermostat and the extension kit. It sounds like they want me to tie zone 1 and zone 2 together and let the Tado control which zone turns on via the thermostat
02semiata yeah it does. If you link both zones to one and add radiator stats you’ll have individual control of each room which you could group any way you like - but it will be fairly expensive. Not compared to a pro smart home install but compared to a thermostat swap.
StuffAboutStuff are you talking about getting trv’s ? Not looking to buy anything more then what I listed. Would a hive system give me the control I need ? I was all in on nest which does work for this layout but they pulled their API support as of yesterday:(
I don’t remember exactly - there was a reason...I can’t for the life of me think why now. I vaguely recall something on the “system” remained live - possibly power to the timer or the stat- it seems silly not to have done that. I assure you there was a reason! Either way when in doubt kill the power properly. Dual pole isolation if you can. Something made me reach for the distribution board.
Yep. Just confirmed. The boiler switch isolates the boiler and timer - but not the 230v at the thermostat location. That’s why I had to isolate the socket circuit at the board ;)
Danny Aakjær I don’t think so, because if it’s not in control of the boiler then you’ll need to manually schedule or turn on the boiler each time you want heat - or leave it running permanently which is a bad idea
No - the trouble with them is - you have to get one for every radiator. The use case ( for me) is to turn on an individual space like the lounge late at night without heating the entire house. This requires that you switch off _every_ valve except the lounge. So it's actually quite an expensive step. Still cheap at the rpice compared to a fully fledged smarthome install from a professional though. I'm not too concerned about individual room temperature regulation because I've calibrated all my radiators so I get a balanced heat throughout the house without them.
