    Thanks! Very informative. Brilliance AI was a little funky, but since changing the White Balance setting is performing way better. I also shoot with the A7RIV

    These are great recommendations. I made the changes on my ON1 ( I also shoot with a Sony A7r) and the images come out a lot better now using Brilliance AI.

      Rick that is awesome! I am finding that brilliance AI is working well for 95% of my Sony images. I am still working on the settings, but this is where I am going to keep them for now and hopefully get to do some more photo shoots. To keep a consistent look, I keep my Sony a7RIV exposure compensation somewhere between +/- 1/3 rotation. That is what I mean by getting my exposure somewhere within 1/3 of a stop for the scene I am shooting. I only tell you this because you have the same controls so it makes sense for you. How the image is shot plays a huge role in the final outcome. Good hearing from you.

    Thanks Chris! In general I find Brialliance Ai pushing the shadows too much and in this way creating a HDR kind of photo.I also pull down the strucure back to 0.

      Yea I would love to have more refinement over the sliders so we can really tell ON1 how much we want each slider to push in any direction. I would love to see something like a sensitivity slider added to the preferences for each slider in Tone & Color, and we just choose how hard we want ON1 to push based on the luminance values the AI reads. I think that is the level of flexibility users want/need because you are not the first person that has mentioned the shadows being pushed.

    Thanks Chris for going through the options in Brilliance AI. I have set up not to apply any noise reduction as I prefer to go to NoNoise afterwards. I also use As Shot for white balance. I just need to get out and take more photos. Thanks again.

      No problem and sorry for the late response I am in the process of moving so I am really behind on doing things for the channel.

    The other adjustment I use immediately after doing a "Brilliance AI" on a photo is to use the "Amount" slider to fine tune how much "AI" adjustment it calculated to apply. This seems to vary from photo to photo for me.

    Thank you 🙏🏾 Good Sir!!! I am really stoked for this info because I really disliked on Brilliance it was way to HDR for my taste.
    PS you should try A7RV. The color science is amazing from the a7Riv to the a7Rv.

      I am thankful this video was helpful! I am thinking of getting a Sony a7RV, but I want to wait for the Sony A7V to be announced. Since most of my photography is Headshots, I don't need a 61MP sensor. I am also looking at getting the a7Cr or the a7Cii which both work for what I do. I just switched to Sony this year so I am still getting used to the files and making them my edit style. Thanks for the comment!

    Chris: You got me playing around with my numbers now. I will be experimenting today and see if it helps me. i made some of mu numbers different than yours just to test the results. I appreciate the help and explanations. Cute pup too. ;-)

      @FreeWillPhotos  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey Danny thank you my friend. The goal with this video is to get you experimenting with the software and the numbers. I think the the cool thing about working with ON1 is that we can manipulate the settings on the AI a little bit to get it to work for our own specific needs. I am likely going to tweak this a little bit more over the next few months, but this is where I have rested my hat for now.

      @@FreeWillPhotos Chris: You got a good hat. ;-) My tweaks didn't seem to help so I have more experimenting to do. I'll let you know if I ever discover the secret sauce. I am excited for 2024.5 to come out. It looks like it will make it easier to work on specific pieces.

    Great recommendations, but I notice the highlights are never used in the tuning of Brillance AI. Can you tell me why it's never used in the tonal adjustments; I shoot strictly human portraits.

    • @FreeWillPhotos
      @FreeWillPhotos  7 місяців тому +1

      My guess is that the basic model Brilliance AI was trained on leaned towards reducing highlights and increasing shadows. That is a common move for RAW files. I am not 100% sure why it works that way, but hopefully in the future we will see an option to tell brilliance AI to increase highlights and reduce shadows when it works on images. What I would love to see is User defined AI presets where you check the Brilliance AI button and the select a preset based on what you want ON1 to consider when evening out your tones.

    I enjoyed this video. However, I disagree with you when it comes to unchecking Apply Local Adjustments Automatically. I may or may not agree with some of the suggested adjustments but since I'm given the ability to modify or delete them I find this helps my workflow. If I see an adjustment that I'm not happy with the way ON1 applied the adjustment, at least I don't have to create the mask since ON1 has already created the mask for me then I can apply the adjustment the way I want to do it.

    • @FreeWillPhotos
      @FreeWillPhotos  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback, and I realize the local adjustments is a subjective idea. I personally did not find it to be useful in my images, but I am happy to hear that it is working out for you. I do plan to test this out again in the new update coming later this month, but sadly the masks were not really anything that I cared to use in my edits. I love that ON1 gives me the opportunity to turn this feature off which has made Brilliance AI that much more fun for me to use.
