More excellent content again Chris, the stand out tip for me this time was the masking bug vignette for the flower. That's something I will definitely trying. Thank you
Hi Chris, I enjoy the content you provide for ON1 Photo Raw users. I recently discovered a little known masking tool that I think would make a good tutorial for others to be able to utilize. It’s a luminosity mask that you create in local adjustments. This is a great way to selectively target specific areas and be able to use a wide assortment of sliders to adjust your image. When you use a luminosity mask within a filter you are only masking the properties of that specific filter. Using a local adjustment provides you all of the sliders that are in the tone and color tab. Roger
Hey Roger thanks for this comment and I too agree the luminosity mask is amazing and really does help make selections on the image in a very powerful way. I use them often and I also have a video on that masking tool too in the library, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to update it. Thank you
I found a way to search through your video library, but I can only do it from my laptop computer. I can’t search from my phone as it doesn’t give me the search icon magnifying glass. Not sure why that is, but I’m able to locate videos from my laptop using the search function. Roger
TY Chris for your most informative video. There are 2 filters I almost always use (within the Effects tab) in my workflow: Dynamic Contrast and Tone Enhancer
Thank you for the comment, and I agree the Super Select AI is more accurate. I am finding that different images give me different results with the AI recognition masking. I am really enjoying the Super Select AI masking though. With that said, it does help to use the AI recognition masking when you are creating presets that use AI. For many photographers the masking does work well even though they are not the most accurate.
Chris, I do follow you and often find good tips. Live edits are always difficult. You said develop mode has nor masking options. It does. Clicking on the mask in the layers pane and then selecting quick mask ai brush to isolate the objects in the layer can be used to paint in (Creating a png file only showing the masked item ) or erase, the same as paint in will cut the object and leave a hole in the layer with transparency around it. Also let your mistakes be a learn ing tool. For example when trying to create a vignette by using the masking gradient tool, it took several tries to get what you wanted. Slow it down and teach why you had to take the steps to get the result you wanted. Highlight the steps you used. A live edit is bound to have this happen and as users we find ourselves trying to determine why it went wrong the first time. Use it as a learning tool
Thank you for this comment and showcasing the power of masking in ON1. I agree live edits do help walk the dog on how to correct issues you run into during editing. For this video I just wanted to make a quick overview of the tools. Each of these tools can be elaborated on even more. To that end I will make more intentional videos on these tools and work through the common issues. The issue I had with the masking bug is just an issue with working in full screen on my computer. I forgot about that
Yea super select AI is a really cool tool and I too am finding ways to start using the AI masking tools in my workflow more often. I still like painting my masks in too, but I am finding a happy medium.
The line mask tool is the most similar to the pen tool. It does not work the exact same, but it does allow you to drop a pen point and bend the line if you want to cut things out that way.
When you used the masking tool it created a halo. I am a new ON1 user ( came from Lightroom) and I’m struggling with these halo’s. Is there a way to eliminate them?
Thanks for the comment and you are correct there was a halo around the flower. To the question of removing that halo, yes you can. It involves using the feather slider in the masking properties and the refine brush. It does take a little more work to get perfect masks in ON1 vs Photoshop and LrC, but it can be done. I hope to get a detailed masking video out soon so please stay tuned.

That is one of my favorite ways to use the masking bug, and I hope it works well for you.

Chris,
Is there a way to search for this video in your library with keywords or some other way to locate it?

Dynamic contrast is a great tool that I have used a lot, and the tone enhancer is really helpful too. Thank you for sharing your tools!
Great tips as always! Thanks.
Thank you!
Great tutorial !
Thank you
Will again a great video with lots of information. I would skip the AI masking because they don’t use the AI in the super select brush.

I'm finding the Super AI to be a great tool. Also, NoNoise AI and Tack Sharp AI are something really great in ON1.

Hello, I am new to this excellent software which tool is similar to Pen tool in On1 Photo Raw ?
