#AppleNotes #NoteTaking #Reminders
You are my favorite Apple instructor. I’ll be regularly following you. Thank you sharing your knowledge & wisdom with us. God Almighty will even give you more strength & knowledge... Amen 🙏
Thank you, Imran.
Thank you Carl for all the brilliant helpful hints and tips for GTD in the Apple system. There is one problem that I don't have an elegant solution for and it's this: I have a project in Notes and from a task I create a reminder. However, when I look at my Project in Notes, I can't tell if I've set a reminder or not. I have to look in Reminders to see, which is not productive. I've started adding a comment to Notes that let's me know I've created a reminder but it's not elegant and it's also time consuming. Do you have a better way?
Hmm, interesting one. Making a note in the project note might be the only way around this.
However, for me, Reminders would be the trigger, not the project note. When I do the weekly planning, that's when I would ensure the right tasks were in Reminders.
@@Carl_Pullein Thank you Sir. Your suggestion will work well for me with a little change to my workflow. You are a great source for GTD and it has helped me to become more productive in my life. 👏👏👏
That's what I really like in the Apple ecosystem: the integration!
Indeed. Me too.
Well ... except when it comes to using either with Calendar.
Thankyou for this video. I've had apple products for years (mainly when family upgrade their phones and laptops and I luckily get the 'hand me down' which saves me a small fortune). I'm currently doing a Clinical Psychology Doctorate and the demands of my course have increased and I'm 'spinning a lot of plates' so to speak so organisation is paramount. This very informative video which is very helpful for me when I'm on the go, or sitting at my computer. As much as I love all the aesthetically pleasing apps that exist for organisation, this video reminded me of the benefits of using apple's own apps and how to make the most of it. Looking forward to exploring the rest of your channel - thanks again!
You're very welcome, Helen. And you are right. Often the simplest and best solutions are right in front of us.
Thanks!! I was stumped trying to share a Note to Reminders. Apple needs to allow users to share a Note to Reminders without having to select text first.
You're right. Apple don't make this easy.
You can also do this between Mail and Reminders.
It’s a nice little trick.
How do you create a link from the email ? Thank you in advance 🙏🏽
Thanks Carl, this has got me using Apple Notes again which I have had for years and used just as a 'filing cabinet' this will now stop me going down the rabbit holes of Apps. Love your work, been following you for yonks! Top drawer Carl!
Thank you. Glad you found this video helpful.
Thank you so much, I’m 14 and I’ve been improving myself the past 3-4 months and now I want a reminder in the morning. Thanks 🙏
You're welcome.
This is just a great way to use the apps together and convinces me more than ever to just stick with the default apps because of their tight integration and flexibility.
It's certainly becoming more and more possible. And it's not likely these apps will disappear.
Wow Carl, thank you for opening up the door to more ways to use the Apple eco system. Unfortunately many times their steps are not intuitive. For example if you hit the Share button you get the same menu, BUT it won't save the Note to the Reminder unless your do it the way you demonstrate in the video, even though the process looks the same. Thanks for sharing this video.
You're very welcome, Mikey.
Wow, nice. I didn't realize how integrated Notes and Reminders were. This seriously helps my productivity updating. Thanks!
You're very welcome, Jason.
Hello Carl.. Thank you for the video, it is informative. The way it is showing the notes icon in reminders, is there a way to have a reminders icon in the notes?
Hmm no. It's not likely you would ever put a reminder into Notes and if you needed a task, Nots already has tasks (checklists) for that.
Exactly what I was looking for - to create seamlessly todos out of Apple Notes. Im using Apple Notes as a Second Brain system (based on Tiago Fortes book) and the advantages of staying within apple are certainly good.
Would evernote allow me to do the same thing, but in a better way?
These days, it's difficult to know what direction Evernote is going in. With Apple Notes, you know it's not going to change very much, and so you can build a second brain with confidence.
Hello Carl, many thanks for this excellent and useful workflow, it fix a problem too that occurs when you use drag-and-drop at iOS/iPadOS 15.xx.
Here the bug with drag-and-drop that I found: If you drag any note direct from the notes app into reminders then you have a direct link to this note in the reminders task. The problem is that the iCloud sync obviously doesn’t work correct with those links. If you create those links in reminders at your iPhone than they only work on your iphone but not at your ipad. The same notes link in the reminder app at the ipad doesnt work and shows only linked to the notes app but not at the correct note. If you use siri with the command “remind at this” when you are in the correct note then work the link in the reminders app correct at iphone and ipad.
Yeah, I've noticed that bug too. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon.
You saved my life
Thank you. I’ve been digging everywhere in iOS and couldn’t find this feature.
You're welcome 🙂
Helpful. Thank you. My wish is that a user would have the option to have the "checklist" feature be pulled into reminders.
I think it’s magical!!!
Glad you liked it, Majeeda.
Very very nice, thank you!
're very welcome, Thomas.
This is really helpful. Thanks :)
You're very welcome.
So simple yet so effective, thanks so much Carl
You’re very welcome, Frank.
You are - as always - a complete lifesaver Carl
Hahaha, thank you, Kenny.
I never knew I could do that, great that the link to the note is right there. Thanks!
You're welcome. Glad to have been able to help.
Great idea
Glad you liked it.
So, did they ever get this working the other way Carl? I often find myself gathering information about a complicated task or project and want a way to connect it to the project in ANY of the available apps. Seems no one else thinks it is a good idea since I have been unable to find a simple way to do it.
Hi Barry, it's all done via drag and drop. This is quite easy on the Mac and iPad. A little more difficult as you need to be exceptionally dextrous with your fingers.
Thank you
You're welcome.
I'm following to learn some hacks but also would appreciate further tips on why or give a for instance as to how to best CAPITALIZE on this ap, rather than just what it can do.
Thanks. I spend a good hour a week with your videos and my laptop and iPhone learning new stuff. Much appreciated!
You're very welcome, Ryan.
Hi! great tip! Do you, BTW, know that you can also create a calendar event directly from Notes app (both Mac OS and iOS)?
If you have a note with a date, let's say 12/12/2019, and you "tap" (iOS) or "hover" (Mac OS), then you have the possibility to create a calendar event.
I cannot attach images to better explain this super-easy process.
:-)
Yes. I love that feature too, Giovanni. :-) Thanks for the heads up.
@@Carl_Pullein my pleasure!!!
Does it work on a shared note to give other person a reminder too?
No. The other person would have to decide if they wanted it on their Reminders list.
Carl, excellent video on an excellent, but unknown, function. - - - Unfortunately, I’ve found that if I change the note in the Notes app, the change doesn’t appear in the Reminders app.
Hmmm, the note you put into Reminders, should be the linked note. That way if you do change the note, when you tap on the link it will open the original note.
Very good your videos.
Thank you, Cristina.
I'm struggling with this. I cannot assign reminders to the share options. In the video you did this off air. I've been searching the web for this but to no avail. Could someone explain to me please?
On iOS, there is 3 dots on the top right of the list. Tap that and you will see "share list". On Mac OS, in the sidebar, as you move your mouse over the list, you will see a person icon appear. Tap that and you can share the list. Hope that helps.
I look forward to your updates, so much to learn. Thank you for your time and in sharing your knowledge
Thank you to you too, Paul for watching.
Wow - this is going to save me so much time! Thank you so much Carl. Sub'ed!
Glad to be of help :-)
I'm using mac book Pro(High sierra 10.13.6) and iPhone 12 (15.6) but reminders it's not syncing. Could you help me with that how it will sync
Try logging out of iCloud on your iPhone, then turn it off. Restart and relog back into iCloud. That should fix the problem. If it doesn't it could be you are using an old version of mac OS and a new version iOS.
You can share from notes on iOS directly with the share arrow, no need to highlight.
True. Unless you only want to share a specific line of text.
Very useful video, on my ios13 phone, if I select text in Notes for a Reminder and (instead of the SHARE option on selected text) if click the SHARE button, then the text in that entire note x-copies to Reminders. Which is ridiculous. Thanks Carl.
I think there are a few bug around still. I hope they get fixed in the near future.
I would love this to work (on Mac), except Reminders won't show up in the Notes Share options. And yes, in Settings, Reminders is checked so it would be visible in the Share menu...
This is really helpful, thank you for sharing.
You’re very welcome, Abd
Yes, cool trick, thanks.
Glad you liked it, Kevin.
İt makes us use project managment in apple notes with entegred Apple remainder cool so we dont need another paid software. Task manager must be a task manager. Paid task manager try project managment but they cannt... thanks your sharing well done...👍
You're very welcome, Hakan.
Great tip, thanks
You're welcome, Gwynn. Glad you liked it.
Carl, I’ve figured how to move apple mail to reminders as well, that may be worth a video as well 👍
Excellent helpful video !!!
Thank you. Glad you found it helpful.
Question - What keyboard command was used to pop-up the search light input filed? BTW - Awesome Cool trick! Thank you.
Ooh I can't remember the default. I changed mine to CMD+J, but that is not the default one. I think it is SHIFT+COMMAND+F (I could be wrong)
Thanks
Your welcome.
This video is very helpful moving notes to reminders. But my main computer is a PC--I have an iPad and iPhone. I cannot get the view that permits me to move notes from one folder to another (i.e. from "Inbox" to "this week"), even in iCloud. Does that part work only on an Apple computer?
If you long press on the note while in the note list view, you will get the option to move the note where you want it.
Carl Pullein thanks. That works! In the interim I also discovered you can swipe left on the entry and it gives the option to move to a different folder, delete, or lock the note. Yippee! (Now if could only post it to my calendar ...)
This is a very good video❗️I use 🍎Apples Notes 🗒Reminders 💡Calendar’s 📆
Glad you like it 🙏
Marking text in Notes and choosing to share doesn’t always give the option to share with Reminders - how can I that ?
That, I believe, is a bug in the Apple system. I've come across that a few times and really don't why it is so random.
So helpful,thanks.
You're very welcome.
Perfect. Thanks a lot.
I have Catalina and when I right-click (or when I try to share) I do not see Reminders as an option. Is there a way to add it to my Share options?
Carl, great video as always, I have been doing this with Notes just by hitting the Share button at the top. One of my options is Reminders. I don’t have to highlight anything like you did. Is there an advantage to how you’re doing it?
Not really, Debbie. It's good if you just want to be reminded of a particular section in Notes though.
Carl Pullein Thanks Carl! Love your videos and podcasts. You’re enthusiasm for the subjects keeps me excited!
Thank you, Debbie. So nice to know I have helped in some small way.
Really magical. I wish I had watched this video before!
Glad you finally found it, Md.
Adding to my notes to check out the rest of your videos 👍
Glad you like them, Britt.
Thanks for the vid!
Just a quick question please... Is there any way to change the color of fonts in Notes
No there isn't, Imran and very unlikely to ever happen.
you're legend..
Thank you, Jay. Appreciate your support.
Great video as always . Thanks a lot Mr Carl
Thank you, Maria for watching.
Thank you, Maria for watching.
Thank you, Maria for watching.
Don't forget to drink your morning water! Hate to think what would happen to you if that note accidentally got deleted - stay safe.
Indeed. A disastrous day! LOL
How to sync the reminder date/time with Apple calendar as one system..
There are a number of third party apps that would do that for you. Fantastical is one.
How do you set up Reminders to appear directly on 4:50 ?
You add it from your share sheet. Just edit the share sheet and you can add or subtract apps as you wish.
I accidentally created a reminder on one of my notes and I checked reminders and is not there. I'm unable to find where to remove this reminder
If it's not in your Reminders app, I think you may not have "accidentally" created a reminder.
Thank you :-)
You are welcome!
How do you add reminders to the share sheet?
Do you mean the other way around? You can't add a reminder to your share sheet, but you can add things to Reminders from the share sheet.
@@Carl_Pullein no, at about 4:54 into the video you share from IOS and comment that you don’t have reminders set up, but will do it later. You have to go into “more” and then select reminders. I wondered if you could get it into the first list that comes up?
Love your videos by the way 😀👍🏻
Do you, by chance know how to move folders full of notes to another “account“ within your iOS notes (like when you have email addresses underneath? My iOS notes (although very organized) has become so long and overwhelming I would rather separate massive categories by account (like say, all things Geology in an entirely diff account~as unfortunately you can’t have multiple “Notes” apps) as opposed to *everything* being all iCloud? And if able to successfully move notes and folders from one account to another (without having the tediously time consuming, and date stamp altering process of copying/pasting) wouldn’t they be able to be backed up as well as iCloud notes? I assume they are referred to as ICloud notes because it is associated with your Apple ID email and not intending to mean that any accounts ~wouldn’t be backed up to iCloud, right?
You can now share folders in Notes. The problem you may have is if you delete them from the original account, you may find that you lose the entire set of notes. Maybe worth experimenting with though
Carl Pullein Great! Would you mind doing a lil demo to show (please and thank you:) To be sure you understand what I’m meaning~this would be another account outside of iCloud like a gmail or other email that you add at the bottom. Thank you so much, I look forward to staying tuned!
That’s a super helpful tip, thanks Carl!
Glad you liked it.
Are you exclusively working with apple or also with microsoft?
I work for neither. I only feature apps and strategies I use.
@@Carl_Pullein I assumed, you don't work for any of them. I wondered though if you use microsoft windows in the way you use mac OS and what is your experience with windows compared to Mac OS?
@@daurye92 I've never had the pleasure of working in a Windows environment. :-o
So weird I’m watching this now. I wrote part of a novel I’m working on in Evernote. It deleted 1200 words I wrote because it didn’t sync and it didn’t warn. Switched to Apple notes a week ago.
Ooh, sorry to hear that, Jeremy. Glad you hadn't written 20K words.
How to connect mail to reminders?
There’s no direct way to do that. All you can do is highlight the text you want ‘reminding’ of and then pasting that to Reminders.
V*
Another cool trick for combining Notes with Reminders is this: When you have your particular note up just tell Siri to “remind me about this tomorrow morning”, or “remind me about this when I get to work” Or pretty much a gigantic list of variables. This will create a time based or location-based reminder and do the same thing,.....take you to that note when you tap it. This of course works for viewing webpages and you want to be reminded later, photographs, etc. etc. etc.
Love that one, Mark. Thanks for sharing.
So basically a “Share sheet > Reminders” action in 7 minutes.
Dude!!!...I appreciate the the new tip...but!...you talk to much about yourself...rather than getting to the point of the blog...👨🏽🏫
Erenst Lawyer Thanks, Ernest. That’s just my style. I guess you can’t please everyone.
Actually the notes and reminders on iphone are totally crap. Hate it.
Samsung doing it the best
Hahahahaha That's the first time I've heard anyone say Samsung are doing software better than Apple. You are going tight? I mean Samsung? The home of 'bloatware'
More talking reduce more talking be in core subject… as i found
Excellent tip! thanks
Glad you liked it, Isaac.
