    Thanks Carl. Left Evernote in the past months due to too much friction. My data shouldn’t be tied to a link, etc; too difficult to simply pull MY data out. Using Apple notes for current year, current goals, etc., and KeepIt for archival (past years, articles, manuals, books to read...things I don’t need in seconds). KeepIt is really , really good and plays well with Apple Notes.

      This is my setup after many years of Evernote. Keeps things simple. However, using Apple Note share to KeepIt doesn't seem to work - I have to drag the Apple Note (selecting all the contents in the note) to KeepIt to archive. I also maintain a zero inbox using an apple script to send important emails to KeepIt, then deleting from Apple Mail.

    Good video. I'm in the same boat as you. I am a Premium Evernote user, but am using Apple Notes more and more. There are really only two things keeping me from fully jumping to Apple Notes: (1) the Evernote Web Clipper; and (2) the ease of sharing a "live" link to an Evernote note with someone outside of the Evernote ecosystem. Can you cover these two things in future videos? I.e., how would one "clip" web pages whole into Apple Notes, and how would one share a note with someone who is on, say, a Windows machine?

    Hi Carl! Another useful video...
    I was thinkig to definitely migrate from a "mixed app" system (EN + Apple Notes/Reminders) to a "coherent" system (Apple Notes and Reminders).
    My biggest concern is I have a huge amount of notes in EN (21k more or less) with lots of attachments. I should try to migrate some notes and notebooks into Apple Notes and see how it goes.

    I made the switch a while ago. Once the Apple Pencil came out Evernote failed with handwritten notes (penultimate is a joke). I'm sure Apple holds back a bit for anti trust issues on some of their apps, but this still blows Evernote away. I use Evernote for older notes instead of migrating, but only need to check it the odd time. Apple notes is great as long as you stay with Apple. Nobody can make the handwriting tools like Apple does.(at least yet). more formatting flexibility with each note would be better though.

    Late comment on 24JUNE2021. This would be a great topic to revisit with MacOS Monterey, iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. Especially looking at he new text in picture OCR feature being added. Will it be available in Apple Notes search? That is my main reason for holding out for Evernote, the auto OCR of text in photos so you can search and copy such text as well as search within attachments like PDFs. I just cannot give up Evernote without those features.

    Question - you hinted about if you move not using tags - so what additional structure would you anticipate using? Tagging is explicit, where as search as in your example Bond = bond = bonds = bonding, etc. and I have found that when trying to get say project details from the list of major or small clients/projects where contractual "bonds" have nothing to do with electrical "bonding"... ... can be a pain to "hand filter out, hence tags. Tags are also, if you add via the naming and collecting habits, are like 'saved searches' so all the quotes from your newsletters or pointers, etc., are found from a tag "Carl Pullein" [The underscore space trick came too late : (((( ]. As I am in the market for a new phone soon, and so if the current iOS and Evernote clash, then either move to Android or moving from Evernote makes a big difference.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 роки тому

      Never been a problem for me, Tim. I've pretty much always searched by keyword and only in Evernote did I use tags to any degree and often found these became overwhelming and just more stuff to remember.

    I just moved to apple notes and left Evernote. I used Evernote for approximately 5 years non stop. Mostly for simple note taking and sometimes a bigger article. On my iPad, everytime I switch to another app, to copy something, and switch back to Evernote, there is a annoying bug. Once I switched back to Evernote I got to the home screen instead of the note and position I last worked on. This basic stupid decision to not be able to continue your work made me left. Imagine you are a musician and everytime you left your DAW the music program would leave your project.... Apple notes is clean, simple and gets the job done.

An extra step but find apple notes is faster for quick day to day notes, Evernote better as a deep storage solution. Evernote OCR/handwriting/attachment search features are yet to be beaten....but agree the iOS Evernote web-clipper is unseeable in most cases so just use Evernote for reference on iOS (or photos of whiteboards, paper text), apple notes is my main text place on iOS.
