Touring Tanglin Halt really brought back childhood memories, and it’s sad to see such a wonderful estate steep in history disappear. What would you miss the most about Tanglin Halt? Do you have any fond memories of the area? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!

4 generations of my family once stayed here, from my great granny, granny, mom and I. This place holds a very special place in our hearts. It's a piece of me. 🥲

I hiked passed this area and was already so intrigued by the design of the old HDB buildings and wondered why it was so deserted. Is sad to see old flats have to go for re-development.
Thank you for making this video for our present as well as future generations to remember!

Dudessss I loved this episode :)) it’s different from all your other ones where you’re showcasing newer flats and condos but I have to say I like what you guys are doing here! So much more of a personal episode, and I like the random bromance about the red shirts? 😂 It’s nice that you guys added in sentiments from the camera guys at 3:48 and outtakes right at the end where Ghib and Ruben were just fooling around 😂. The chemistry between you two has grown so much it’s awesome to watch. Also want to shout out that Ruben has impressive knowledge about Tanglin Halt, even if you got minor details incorrect, I think your research and knowledge throughout the video still comes through. 👏
Thanks for the content guys! Always watching this space for more!

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know how you feel about the content! It's super encouraging to the team for sure to hear that you like the video still even if it is a departure from our usual tours. It was an interesting one to shoot, and we hope to do more in the future!
Thanks again for all the support thus far!

I'm still living there, for 50++ years. We'll soon be moving to the dawson area.
Do check out the new estate, it'll have a 26th floor linkway between multiple blocks (max 47 floors). It is next to queenstown library (another super antique building built in 1960s or 70s and is still open🥰). It is reported to be available to move-in in Q4 2021, 1 year delayed due to pandemic.
The old $1 dollar bill's housing blocks have already been torn down, they were beside the old SIT building. The old railway gives alot of fun for adventurous boys to catch spiders for battles. There was a van houtan chocolate factory that residents can smell rich smell. In addition, for long timers to remember, we can see a gas container (it has been torn down long ago). Take a look at the churches (damien hall and faith methodist). Even the england queen Elizabeth came to queenstown for a visit. It is also the district, tanjong pagar, which MM Lee Kuan Yew presides. It is one of the oldest estate that started with HDB.
Do visit the MacDonald garden before they close it at the end of 2021. It has a long history there.
I like staying there for it's quiet kampong feel, the convenience of traveling to city zone and elsewhere.

Wow..you are still there? Remember all those places u mentioned. Remember city shuttle service? The small bus in addition to SBS? Did u go to the PAP at blk 70+? Nxt to the bread factory?
I remember our walks to the Ridout, we used to call it Japanese garden, with my dad at night. We hd to pass thru the roundabout, now a big junction. We hd cheap thrills experiencing our clothes changed colour under the roundabout lights. There are places there which transport us into 'magical' places. The Hang Jebat/Portsdown area is one of them. Juz a railway track away, we cld see avid footballers practising their skills on the large field. Commonwealth Sec used to be around the area. We hd our PE there at times before the MacRitchie run

@@mangotango7647 haha. So many memories around the area. Like torn down tai chung department store, 2nd floor POSB, next to queenstown library, queenstown bowling alley, 3 cinemas (now left with 2 converted churches), bus 61 (still around), indian temple. 10¢ bus tickets. Bus conductor. No air con bus.
I'm borned there in the mid 60s. Lots and lots of fond memories 😉🥰. Too many to give. I'm sad to leave there and move to dawson new "sky residences" blocks.
Good bye tanglin halt. You gave me a life time of experience there. I hope the government will rebuild the area quickly to give life.
Oh yeah. Do visit chap luk lao, 16 storey flats, just opposite of commonwealth mrt station. Especially, go to 16 floor to view what it was like to have million $ view in the 60s/70s, it is totally unchanged view, inconvenient to cummute (walking up and down the hill, so tiring sia) but the view is awesome.

@@drizzt167 yes. Went to Tai Chung for the kiddy rides n ice cream. Queenstown Lib and the Polyclinic, one of the oldest. The coffee shop nxt to Tai Chung served good ice kachang. Margaret Drive road is now closed also rite? Is the remand prison still there? Remembered our walks fr Strathmore Primary aft band practise every Sat. Sometimes we went down the monsoon drain and looked for guppies, if there's any. Hahaha.. I'm sure u cld remember the carnival at the field where the Community Centre is now. The overhead bridge connecting to Tanglin Halt fr there was made of wooden planks. I joined NPCC and hd attachment at Queenstown Police Station. Went patrolling with the police officers. Ambushed a hse used for gambling at Bukit Merah; found a stolen bicycle at a petrol station and picked up a vagabond fr along the street. Hhmmph..lots of memories lah.

Some famous ppl live in our blk/neighbourhood. Nora Tien; a former model and Ms S'pore used to live on 7th floor, my nxt door neighbour on the 5th was Gary Loh (chairman/founder) of DiMuto; we hd our own seamstress on the 1st floor; tidbits store on the 2nd; Indian spice lady on the 3rd; hairdresser on the 9th and dentist (yes, in-house dentist! 🤣🤣 on the 10th floor!
Supermodel Nora Ariffin used to live at blk 35/36 I think. Singers Linda Elizabeth and sis, Anne Hussin, used to live at blk 70+ C'wealth Drive. Not forgetting Ahmad Ibrahim, S'pore footballer at blk.62. When we say we know our neighbours, we meant the entire estate.🤩🤩🤩

Sad to see the hawker center going away. Lots of good food there, the beef steak, the milo uncle, and the fruits seller would be missed
