It really does. I rode it for the first time without knowing what it was and boy of boy will I never ride it again. It’s bad enough I have a fear of falling elevator with me in it.
It's incredible what sound, lights and effects, the whole ambiance, could do for a ride. Without that, there's no ToT, just a elevator going up and down a shaft
Ordinarily I don't like lights-on rides because it ruins the effect but this one - you can see the fall and it may be worse than the uncertainty of the darkness.
While I'd love to ride like this, it's good to know that even when the rest of the ride malfunctions, the elevator system still works. However, I'd be worried about dropping and then not stopping.
The kid (can't see them in order to say if it was a boy or girl) actually said "That is a mirror." Everyone cracked up because it was in response to one of the adults saying something is a mirror and, what I assume was an park employee, saying it isn't a mirror. The adults found it so funny because the kid was calling what the employee said b.s.
I had the opportunity to ride ToT with the lights on when I worked there around 2009 for the 20th anniversary. It was kind of cool to see what everything looked like, and the drops were definitely different, but I have to say, I like it much better with all of the effects. I also have ridden Rock and Rollercoaster with the lights on, which was cool. There are some definite head chopper moments in there.😮

Seeing metal and concrete flashing in front of you instead of screen-projected special effects was much more frightening. If the lights ain't working what else is broke?
