What made this ride over the top is that it wasn't just a normal drop ride. There was Disney's element of special effects, but the idea to move the entire elevator to another section of the building for the drop was unheard of. When it debuted 30 years ago, it amazed me. I'm glad it's operating to this day.
@laboy14 This is the original Tower of Terror in Florida. Wikipedia says it debuted July 1994. All this time I hadn't been able to try though I did go on the one in Anaheim (which sadly isn't exactly the same but close).
The first time I rode Mission Breakout the worker told us it was time to start crying. I didn't do my research before the ride to know what kind of a ride it was so it was definitely a huge surprise. I was crying and my legs were shaking at the end lol. And I even kept having flashbacks that night that made it hard to sleep. And then two days later I went on it again! I still get really scared while I'm in line to do it again but I'm fine when it's underway, I don't know why that is.
I rode this ride once. Of note, between each seat, there's little metal bars meant to separate them visually, and also for you to hold onto. It doesn't do much good to hold onto them though - when you're falling, the elevator is being pulled down fast enough that you simply cannot hold yourself to your seat. Of course, that just means Disney nailed the terror part - even when you know that the ride is functioning safely, it's still terrifying to feel like you aren't in your seat when you have a seat belt holding you down.
When my niece was about 6 years old we took her to WDW. She wanted to try this ride and so I went with her. I was so nervous about taking her - afraid I was going to traumatize her. After the first ride, she begged me to go again right away. Luckily there wasn’t a wait at that time. We ended up going about 5 times in a row. It would have been more but I had such a massive headache by my fifth time I just couldn’t take anymore!
I rode this ride when I was younger like 5 or 6. And it scared the heck out of me, and I told myself that I’m never riding it ever again. Looking at it in a video now it doesn’t seem too bad.
Best ride at Disney World. The special effects, the setup/story, the ambiance of the queue/basement, the ride itself are all perfect. I can't believe this ride is 30 years old, it holds up so well.
I road this when i had just turned 13 back in 96, it had only been open for 2 years! I remember everyone talking about How revolutionary it was and still is! Definitely in my top 5 and I'm a coaster nerd! Hope disney doesn't destroy this beautiful Masterpiece and turn it into something else like some rumors I've heard. I highly recommend experiencing this at least once!
This just brought back a memory of mine, so, I went to Disney world with my family and I was like " mom can I go on tower of terror with you?" and she said "you sure?... Okay" then we got in the line and I wanted to be in the back but we were in the front on the left side I was next to my mom and sister, and brother, then we went to the ghost part and it dropped and I screamed my heart out and I didn't know there was a bar to hold on to and I was holding in to my seatbelt during the drops. Then when the ride ended I was balling my eyes out and my mom said" did u hold on to the bar? " and I was like" there was a bar?! " then my mom started laughing and said" what were u holding on to?! " and I said" ...... my seatbelt" and I never went on it again lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i was a little scared to go on this since it was my first time. but i ended up loving it. honestly i feel like the drops are pretty smooth and not as hardcore as i thought it would be.
I got the luxury of riding this today with no idea what i was getting myself into and had an adrenaline filled experience. First ride to ever give me a falling experience like that ( i dont ride rides im poor here on the boss's dime) ive ever been on and now i hope it wont be my last but probably will be the coolest one to beat
The idea to combine a dark ride with a drop tower climax was pure genius. The technology is also extremely impressive considering this ride opened in 1994!
Is the drop sequence the same each time? In the Paris version it’s always different so you never know when it’s going to drop completely or stall or go back up. It also doesn’t have the part before entering the fifth dimension but there’s an extra floor that opens in front of a mirror where you all fade out of existence, plus there’s a little girl telling you to follow her and not to scream, and there’s a few different endings
The story there is definitely better imo, but there’s only 3 drops which make the ride a bit underwhelming. But there is a limited version that runs around January to March every year which makes the ride a lot scarier and thrilling.
My daughter (7 years old then) and I got the chance to ride this 8 times in a row. All rides shut down because of big storm and most people left the park. We sat on the floor for 20 mins where they play the twilight zone movie. Ride opened and there were only about 10 people waiting. :-) Off and on 8 times. So fun
Now I’m a Floridian so I’ve been to Disney Orlando before and I think its the best. Now i haven’t been to Shanghai ,hongkong, Japan and Paris but I feel that the fact that because Orlando is the biggest with most of Walt’s dreams in it it feels just like the best.
I rode this for the first time in 1997; I was 8 years old. I was terrified out of mind and it had nothing to do with the ride itself, it was Disney’s ambiance and creativity. I was frightened beyond belief.
I rode this ride twice it was really fun. The first time my friend got really scared and she wanted to get off. But we convinced her to come will us the second time.
After years of saying I would never ride this even if Disney paid me I finally got on it in 2018 and am angry that I waited so long to ride. It is now my number 1 ride in Disney world. I will park hop over to Hollywood studios just to ride this.
asking someone who has been on this ride before, did you feel that tha searbelts were enough because it seems wierd that there arent any bars for the drop .I really eant to go but i am kind of worried😭😭😭
I told my mom next time I want to go on this ride even though I am afraid of elevators dropping due to many nightmares as a kid. And still afraid of them but doing it my mom gets me a huge Mickey pretzel after
They refurbished this place quite well, if no one told you, you'd probably think guardians of the galaxy breakout was ever twilight zone themed instead
I remember when i was a kid i got on this ride by myself i was probably 8 years old and the attendant didn’t check belts so i didnt have mine on half the ride, luckily i saw a kid next to me had a seatbelt on so i checked and put mine on i was unaware there was a big drop on the ride. I was terrified after and cried

florida's version came first, and it debuted in 1994. all other variants came out later
I don't do drop towers, but I make an exception for this one. ToT is amazing
Still one of the all-time greats! I rode it about 20 years ago for the first time and was transported to another dimension of joy.
It's funny how the workers stare down everyone at the door when it's closing to make them even more scared, lol.
The first time I rode Mission Breakout the worker told us it was time to start crying. I didn't do my research before the ride to know what kind of a ride it was so it was definitely a huge surprise.
