    If I am getting the storyline of Hotel Hightower plot (since the language was in Nihongo)...
    It's basically a man named Harrison Hightower who brought home this idol-statue whatever which seems to have a curse which in turn brought Harrison to his demise while he was riding an elevator carrying the small statue. He reaches the top floor, only to have the statue's curse work crashing him back down. You will see in the queue part there was an elevator already crashed down which shows Harrison had been dead for a long time and us, the riders (guests) of the hotel comes to this building experiencing the same thing which happened to the owner of the building, hence while on the ride itself there was a mirror reflecting the riders and the statue once again appearing to seemingly "curse" those who rides the elevator before the drop sequences start.
    Also, during the elevator ride, Harrison Hightower was narrating the story in 1st person point of view.

      @@nicolea2839 but in terms of being a ride based on the Twilight Zone, Tokyo actually does a better job despite having very little connections with the show. The Twilight Zone is all about morals and karma and exploring different peoples' sides of the story. In the regular tower of terror the people jusf get zapped into the twilight zone for no reason whatsoever, we don't know what they did or why they were killed. And at the end of the ride, there's no moral of explanation for why the people vanished, if just tells you to be weary of the hotels you check into. But in Tokyo, the story is fully fleshed out with a main character we see do horrible things and we see disregard the safety of himself and others in the name of glory. And when he gets the statue, it curses him and gives him what he deserves, and even after that, he's forced to watch the night of his death over and over, and hd nows what's about to happen, finally learning the error of his ways, and further tells the guests not to be caught up in greed or legacy, or it could get you in some nasty situations. In terms of plot the US versions of the ride are very simple, and despite having the more complex ride system, the Florida version doesn't do much to further the characters' backstory, it just shows you the 5th dimension, and while yes it's absolutely cool, it just feels kinda generic thriller. But I get why you may like it better, and it's fine, I'm just pointing out the differences jn plot and the irony of Tokyo's version having a more Twilight Zone vibe than the ones that are actually based on the Twilight Zone.

      The other versions play up the mystery by hinting that there's much more going on at the hotel than guests are told (something all the bellhops evidently all know).
      This version works differently in that the mystery reveal is reversed. The guests come to know there's something up with the hotel that none of the tour guides seem to know about. The suspense here comes from you personally learning the dark past of the hotel, instead of the staff knowing more than they're telling you.

    This tower of terror has a way different story than the one in America

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 7 років тому +97

      The story here was changed for two big reasons. The biggest issue, the parks in Tokyo aren't operated by Disney, but by another company called the Oriental Land Company; a Twilight Zone themed attraction would require OLC to shell out royalties to both CBS and Disney for a ride based on a show that wasn't very well known in Japan. The second one was more of a stylistic issue: 30s Hollywood didn't fit the rest of American Waterfront's New York theme, and using the normal Tower of Terror story would make the ride stick out like a sore thumb.
      During development, Disney created an entirely new story that would solve both those problems. The ride now takes place in 1912 New York, with a storyline connected to the exploration of some of the park's other attractions.

      The owner of the hotel is Harrison Hightower III who is a member of the Society of Explorers and adventurers (a story line that runs through a couple of areas of Disneysea and Hong Kong Disneyland plus rumored to be part of Shanghai Disneyland but I did not see any references when I was there). He is a collector of artifacts and on his latest exploration he "collected" the Shiriki Utundu statue (the monkey looking statue) which is, of course, cursed and it starts running amok in mr. Hightower's hotel. Everytime I go the cast members hand me a pamphlet that explains everything in English, it is actually kinda cool they do that for English speaking riders. The ride system is a clone of California's but the theming and effects far exceed any other version (Florida still has the best ride system). To me the biggest flaw with Japans version is they still use the old ride vehicles with seatbelts.

    • @funtimeswithtom4108

      T L I don't know if you remember when downtown Disney first opened and they had those "clubs" there, one of them was the Adventurers club (the animal heads on the walls came alive and talked to each other) and that was where the idea for the Society of Explorers and Adventurerscame from. It was going to be a way to connect all the parks around the world for the Disney diehards but that idea went away when they removed that club. The Asian parks are still going ahead with the idea though so Japan, Hong Kong & Shanghai (rumored) are all connected in a small way.

      When you break it down, the stories between the new California version and this are surprisingly similar. You're touring the collection of this crazy collector that's excited to show off his latest acquisition, but said acquisition causes a ton of trouble for the collector and his guests. Also, Harrison Hightower is actually based on Joe Rodhe, who also happens to be involved with the Tower overhaul in California.
      I'll miss the overlay of the California version a bit, but considering this is their track record for deviating from the Twilight Zone story, I don't think the Guardians overlay is as doomed to fail as a lot of people want it to be.

      AdrenalineAddict610 My reason for not liking the change is that I prefer the supernatural/thriller theme that was used when it was themed to the Twilight Zone. There aren't too many rides at Disneyland like that. Now only Indiana Jones and the first half of the Haunted Mansion do that.

    Update: so it wasn’t as scary as I thought it’d be. I clenched the sit so hard I didn’t even fly😂 that was how scared I was haha. But when it fell I expected it to actually drop to the bottom but nahh it didn’t. It was also really short so I’d ride it again but next time I’ll wave my hand and smile at the camera. I remember the view at the top was really good ( I took the ride at night and I remember the elevator got right up to the top and we could see the rest of Disneyland from there ) . I liked the ride so much I think I took it another time ( I was like 9 years old at that time ) . This ride was hands down my favourite , next to the Haunted Mansion as a kid

    I remember going on this attraction and don't remember the drop sequences being that tame. The drops are probably randomized like the one in Florida and this is probably one of the tamer sequences the ride does. In my experience, the ride would shake violently and dropped 13 stories in the end. There were also very few people in line for the attraction compared to what was shown in the video, I think we only waited around 5-7 minutes (wait might not have been that short, but we waited very little to get into the preshow room) before preshow and waited a few more minutes to get on the elevator.
    Edit: I just found out that there are different sequences for slower seasons (Jan-March). We went in March.

    • @A_A610

    Rode this once on a visit to Tokyo. It was the shortest drop length, only went up and down a couple of times, compared to Anaheim and Orlando parks. Actually, a lot of the Tokyo ride were short rides. But being fron the US and not understanding the language, made it fun.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 3 роки тому

      The stock profile is definitely the tamest out of all the versions, but they sometimes run alternate drop profiles during the slower season (Jan-Mar) that are similar to the Orlando version.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 2 роки тому

      On the Twilight Zone versions, the suspense comes from guests not knowing the full extent of the hotel's happenings (lightning strikes don't _normally_ cause elevators to disappear); this gets helped by the fact that the cast are not only aware of the true nature of the hotel, but they're completely in on it, and not telling the guests what is actually happening.
      On this version, the cast are tour guides from the local historical society, instead of the cursed hotel staff, meaning they still have to maintain Japanese standards of service. Since that wouldn't really combine well with the standard Tower formula, keeping the suspense required a flip in the script. Instead, the full story is only given to the guests, while the cast remain blissfully unaware of the actual nature of the hauntings.

    • @fleshmaidengirl
      @fleshmaidengirl 7 років тому +6

      This one will stay intact. The Japanese parks are only partly owned by Disney, so changes done in the other parks are unlikely to influence Japanese attractions. That, and putting GOTG there would clash immensely with the park's theming.

      There are other Towers, but because of several factors (breaking the New York theme, necessity of licensing the Twilight Zone name from both CBS and Disney, limited viewership of the original show in Japan), Disney opted not to use the story seen in Florida, Paris, and (until recently) California.
      Because of that, this is a completely different take on the ride that's exclusive to Tokyo. While you'll find Tower of Terror at other Disney parks, you won't find one quite like this.

    • @A_A610

      Yep. There's either assisted listening devices that give a rudimentary translation of the ride, or for some, the cast members have small cards that detail the stories in a language of choice (including English).
