- The reader response essay is the most common form of a literary analysis essay. It asks the writer to put into words their response to what they've read. In this video, I explain how to write a reader response essay for a college English class. Still have questions? Please let me know in the comments and I'll be glad to answer your questions!
This is Episode 6 in the series for my ENG101 Class for Eastern Arizona College.
Using P.E.A.R can help structure paragraphs which stands for Point(According to...), Evidence(Source), Analysis(What does this mean), and Reflection (Thoughts, Feelings & Ideas).
This is great!
i like pears :)
Summary:
1. Establish context by summarising content
2. Introduce thesis statement
3. Connect your points and use your source. Overexplain your lines of argument.
4. Only add new material

OMG! This helped me sooo much. I'm currently studying for my GED and was really stumped when I was asked to give a response to a passage I had just read. I wasn't sure what it was asking. Thank you!
Yay! I’m so glad it helped. Good luck on your GED!
I just found this video and it's made everything so much more clear. Thanks so much
I learned a lot bro it’s like ur a teacher
+Ash and Ashley X3 Haha. Thanks!
He basically is a teacher
My teacher talked about this in class but I guess I didn't really listen carefully.
I never thought that there's more to it than my own opinion and emotion about the text.
This helped me, thanks!
You’re welcome! Thank you!

I am going to use your instructions to write a reader response on Poe's The Man of the Crowd for my American Lit class in university. I watched some of your other videos. Thank you very much for what you're doing. All the love in the world.

Hi there,
Is a reader response essay, are we allowed to use personal pronouns such as 'I' or does that ruin the academic aspect of the essay? Thanks for your help!
dona sirimanne Ultimately it’s up to your teacher. I’d avoid it if you can though. I’d only use personal pronouns if my personal experience was relevant.
You really have a way with words!! This is extremely beneficial!!!

You’re welcome! I’m so glad it helped you!
I have trouble doing reading responses on authors who’s talk about 2-4 topics in the same article, how do I make all of that into a reading response ?
+Daisy Martinez Give yourself permissions to focus on whatever want. There isn’t a correct response because your response is what makes the paper valuable. Focus on what you have to say, acknowledge what you didn’t talk about, and move on. Use references to the text to support your response. I hope that helps!
Thank you better than my university professor 👍
Thank you! You explained this topic very well!!
Your explanation is amazing. I am wondering why your channel is not popular!

This was so helpful!
Is it different or the same between reader response essay compare to reader response criticism? My due is tomorrow, im in so much nervouse:((((((
It sounds like the criticism paper goes further and does more than respond by criticizing the author. Good luck on your paper!
Thanks. Btw, do have any example of those criticism paper?
Try this. Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/NRuTshpmPzg/v-deo.html
Is it correct to write the sub-titles and then put the responses that are related to each title? I mean using more than one response for a single title.
I’m not sure that there is a rule for that, but I’d suggest a few paragraphs between subtitles at the least.
is it ok if i dont quote but paraphrase?
Yes! Don’t forget to cite though
so since the entire paper is a response to someones work how do we know what needs to be cited?
Quite by quote and idea by idea. Cite it each time. It may seems like too much, but it’s the style for giving credit in academic writing.
@@rwc thank you so much i got a 81 on my paper and i got perfect points for the citing!
Thank you very much!
Hello from 2019! Thanks for the help!!! Hope you had a great year ;)

My school assignment sent me here.
Hi,
I’m a student from South College of Knoxville, Tennessee, and this video really helped me distinguish how I was gonna take on MY reader response essay!
Thank you!
You’re welcome! Good luck on your essay!
Introduce source, cite source, and explain it in detail, then connect to what source says to your perspective. Find fresh words to say the same idea.
Thank you, Mr. Lauritzen.
You're welcome! I'm glad the video helped!
I lovvvvveeee thiiisssss .. I love how you takk
+noOoo Thank you. I’m glad it helped!
What is the difference between reader response and reaction paper?
They may be the same, depending on how your teacher uses the terms. Reader Response would naturally focus on responding to something that is written, but the concepts are probably the same. In either case, I’d guess, you could respond to content with a reasoned response with examples and logic. At times it may be appropriate to focus on your opinions, but you would need to explain them. In each case, read you instructions carefully and ask your teachers for clarification.
Read, Write, and Cite Thanks! I was actually browsing for any video regarding reaction paper because we were told to make one when I saw this and got curious. Anyway, I watched several of your videos and found these really helpful. You explained the topic really well.
Yay! I’m so glad my videos helped. Good luck writing your paper!
Thank you so much for this video! :)
