Right. Judging by the hundreds of comments shouting JAPANESE KNOTWEED we had to admit that Jonny has never seen the stuff before. He had no idea what the weed looked like. We have informed the land owners, had the cars steam cleaned and burnt all clothing (don't worry, the BFF was not present)! Had no idea so many viewers of this channel are also keen horticulturalists. Thanks for pointing it out. 🌱

OMG. Must be 30 or more years ago that I found a '57 Bug by accident in an open barn in northern Germany (I was there for a '61 which wasn't quite what I needed), luckily standing on it's wheels and almost rotten as this one. Later on I had to replace all fenders etc. nevertheless. And I told the owner "If it starts, I buy it". It did start and I got it to my grandma's garage (btw: nice view from this garage over an idyllic lake) on it's own four different wheels, despite a blocking front brake, 20 year old engine oil and 10.000 insects crawling over me. Half a year and tons of welding-hours later it stood on Porsche 356 chrome wheels and was painted in a light green, got a 1300cc engine with a Brasilian roaring exhaust (all the silly stuff you do when you are young).
    Nice times.

These videos are great sure all the new stuff is nice ,but an old car with a story is way more interesting looks like lots of gardening was needed to pull it out , a friend of mine had a mk2 ford consul in the 90s when I first new him at the first job in a garage parts dept , anyway fast forward 20 years later the bloke he sold it to offered him it back had been in a dry garage for around 20 yrs .
Should be back on road this year using parts from a doner consul he picked up recently ,not exactly a barn find but a garage find .

I bought a New 1974 Super Golden Beetle with the Sun roof and I wish I could buy another one. We drove it from Wichita, Kansas t Denver, up and over Loveland Pass all the way out to Las Angeles and Disney Land then all over California and slept in it with our small daughter and never once stayed in a Motel or Hotel and we ate two meals a day . Our vacation was three weeks on the Return and we never spent $300.00 in 1976.We traveled through Poverty Gulch , Colorado and went through several old abandoned houses and even picked up Turquoise from a Mine. We raced a Rolls Royce up and over Loveland Pass before the Tunnel Bypass was built. Total Gas bill was less that $80.00. Those were the days America was still America in many ways.

There was an oval sat in woods in sible hedingham, essex when we were kids. We went back about 10yrs ago and someone had cut the roof off but not dragged it far before giving up. Me and a mate went and dragged the back end back to his shed as a yard art piece. I do also have a 58 that has sat in a barn for the last 30 odd years awaiting savior. One day!!

Y'all are crazy. I learned to drive a manual transmission on a friend's old, hand me down family VW Beetle beater. Three of his brothers learned to drive with that car as well as my friend and my self. It would dependably start and run and drive fine and everything worked although the brakes were scary and primitve. I think it had two or three different sizes of tires on it and black plastic front fenders We drove that thing like it was a Jeep through the woods and fields and dirt/farm roads. Lots of fun memories. It didn't look much better than this one. When something broke or wore out you could literally replace it or repair it with just a few simple tools. The Model T of our era.

For years, decades actually, I owned a 1957 Oval window Beetle carcass. It was on a 1954 chassis, according to the tunnel VIN. Never did anything with it, except to put in a hot 1966 Type 3 motor and go out and pulled a wheelie, just one. My lawn chair driver's seat fell backwards. No brakes, but eventually rolled to a stop. Sold it in 2007 for $200.

I grew up back in the seat of an T1 split panelvan that my late dad converted to camper spec.
Next car was a 68' 1300s he when I was about 4-8 year of age.
My late dad was a VW guy his whole life. I still own the VW books and magazines he had.
His last was a 82' T3 (T25) Transporter which he did a lot of work to, including swapping for a Volvo B230 engine, late spec brakes, did the interior and other bits.
I'm a Ford guy, Capri in particular. But I have herritaged the love of old VW's from my dad.
Glad to see the Tamiya shirt. I know you Johnny also is a Tamiya man.
I have been a Tamiya guy for over 30 years.
Currently I'm building a tribute of my dads campervan by using the M06 T1 body.
I'm also have unfinished slammed M04 Tamiya beetle project still to do.
I also want to do a tribute build of my dads beetle at later stage.
Would be great to see some Tamiya related stuff on this channel 🙂

As a kid in Ireland in the mid 1980s, my dad bought some farm equipment from a guy in Tipperary. In his front garden there was an Oval, sitting there as a chicken coop. It still had all the glass, and the interior had been taken out and stored (red vinyl & looked like new). I got in touch with the VWOC Ireland and let them know where it was. Not sure if anything became of it.

I'm a gal, but I love VW Bugs. When I was a teenager in the early 70's, I had a sweet little 64 white bug that had a crank sunroof. I was in with a bunch of guy friends and all 4 of us had bugs that ranged from 64, 65, 67 and 68 models. We would go places sometimes and it was so fun watching peoples reactions when we all drove up somewhere and parked together. Good times and good memories. I'm in my 60's now but would love to own one again!

You should totally own a Bug again! They always bring a smile to your face when driving. You had a white 64 sunroof? That's almost like Herbie. Thank you for the comment. Best, Jonny

Enjoyed this video a lot, thank you Jonny! It's hard to believe it didn't fall apart the moment you lifted it out of its resting place though. That's too far gone, but if it can give a few rare parts to restore other Beetles it'll be all worthwhile!

I'm building a VW beetle at the moment.
Funny thing is it's built by the people on Lyndon's t shirt.

Tax ran out in Aug ‘81 but last V5 issued on 17 Feb 2005? My first 2 cars were Beetles EPC 640J 1200 (stuffed in in a hedge when brakes failed) & VKE 468H 1300 (rolled on a dual carriage way ended up on its roof, I was lying under the rear seat with battery acid on my hand) both in Clementine orange, my brothers first car was a Beetle1300, some sort of powder blue, his second a Clementine orange Fastback, with a clutch that you needed good quads to get to the floor. A biting point half an inch from the floor. My sister, had a green (re sprayed) 1303.

The best place for this VW is in a Museum next to a restored one of the same year.

I might relay my first car story here..63 beetle.
I was driving on a busy six lane road when I heard a noise like
champagne corks popping...looked in the rear vision mirror
and couldn't see the back window for smoke .
Pulled over and of course the battery had shorted on the back seat frame,
the corks popping noise were the caps on the battery cells shooting off..
and yes a few flames ...not my best day ..etched in memory.
PS The Beetle windscreen washer tank was held in the middle of the spare tire
and worked off the tire pressure. If you were having a vague day and topped up air pressure
in the tire without returning the cap on the washer tank you got drowned.😂

Love a good old barn/bush find episode, they're what weekends are for. What a top bloke Lyndon is and hats off to Gerant for saving it. I've got a good feeling that this bug may live to see another day.
Thanks again Jonny and the TLBS gang for yet another great episode...🎩👍🏻

Can't like beetles, had one, as a family man with little money, so had to stick with it for years. However, you fellows have made such a good video, with great waves of goodness, put out to us lesser mortals. Thanks. Peace be unto you.
