Half of the iMac's value proposition is the gorgeous display which you won't be able to match with any other monitor unless you opt for a studio display which is very expensive imo. So yeah if a great display is not your requirement, you can surely go ahead with the mini.
Gorgeous display ? Matchless ? No, i don't think so. For video and photo editing yes, due to it has superb colour accuracy and high pixel density. But for media consuming and amusement, absouletly no.
Studio Display or Imac Display is just an ordinary, standard 60 hz screen with high colour accuracy;
- It's neither FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) Nor Mini Led or OLED
- It has terrible contrast which results in bad black colour uniformity
- It's 60 Hz
- It doesn't support HDR or Dolby Vision
Just have a look at Apple Studio Display review by Rtings. For instance, The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 is a much better choice for watching movies and videos.
Agreed. My wife wants to replace her iMac 2010 with either an M3 iMac or M4 Mac Mini when it is released.
I managed to find a $700 Black Friday deal on an M1 Mac mini with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB Storage on eBay.
I found one as well and ordered it but the seller never came through like he was supposed to … so e bay refunded my money… makes me sad
welcome to the mac mini club my friend. been using my mini for over 8 months now and I LOVE IT!
I should have picked it up when the M2 launched. But overall I am happy that I now have it.
Thanks for posting - very informative. But, I was looking through your videos and I didn't see (or I missed) what display you use with your Mac Mini now that you chose it over the iMac. I've been thinking about upgrading my 2017 5k iMac with a Mac Mini and a display, but the display on the 5k iMac is really one of its best features but the Apple 5k Studio Display is a bit of a budget-buster. Thanks for any advice about a display! 🙂
Thank you for this, i am venturing into upgrading my old Imac 3Tb, my main concern would be storage but adding a further SSD would solve that paired with a good monitor it would be a big saving on the new smaller screen imac m3
The iMac display is fantastic - and a consideration.
It is a great display, but in my case I already had an LG ultrawide display. But if a I didn’t have a monitor that would have been a deciding factor.
Is it the best value if you have to buy a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, though?
Depends if you already have some of these on hand from previous computers.
@@amo294 can I re use my Mac keyboard mouse and the monitor ?
You can use your old mouse and keyboard. If the monitor supports HDMI your good to go.
Useful video!
What is the brand and the model of the hub? Hagibis? Qwiizlab?
Thank you!
It's the Hagibis Mac Mini dock, just added it to the video description. It feels premium for the price.
@@amo294 Yes, I found it on Amazon already - the high-end model, yours, offers 2.5 SSD and NVME!
Wow, this is super convenient for storage and for Time Machine Backups!
And not even mention the SD Card Slot, that so many people used it.
Definitely a very good product.
I'm a Mac Mini user - M2, 24GB, 512GB and this machine is a Powerhouse!
For programming with my DELL 16:10 U3023E with six Desktops and enabled Stage Manager from Sonoma it feels like in a Star Trek! :)
Thank you once again for the video - Mac Mini for Life! :)
Hi, Thanks for the video. Do you have to use both of the Mac Minis Thunderbolt ports to connect to the Hagibis doc and if so is it still then possible to connect two displays because wouldn't you only have the HDMI slot available on the Mac Mini?
Good choice - I am sat here watching your video waiting for my Mac Mini M2 Pro to turn up, only another 5hrs to wait...... 🤪🤪
I should have waited for the Black Friday deal missed out on $140CN gift card, but happy overall. Enjoy your new Mac mini!
I think you went the right route with the Mini M2.
It pretty fast, now trying to get the software I need installed. Once that’s done I can use this as my main computer.
For someone that uses davinci resolve for video editing which monitor will go well with the Mac mini?
same situation, I'm thinking about the Dell S2722QC not to break the bank
@@MarcoRCArena I’ll check this out
What specs are your mac mini 2?
Memory is 16gb with 512gb hard drive.
The M3 iMac outperforms the M2 Pro Mac Mini btw, and also there are reports that the new M3 iMac is faster than the maxed out iMac Pro and Maxed 2020 Intel iMac. I think you made a good decision in the long run though, since you can carry it around anywhere and connect it to any display
My last iMac had a display fault with a line down the centre, so having an all in one can be more difficult to repair in the long run.
Mac Mini is the best little machine out there. Price. Capabilities. Size. Pro model for those that needs a little more. Love the Mac Mini.
Totally agree!
was a AI voice over necessary? I've noticed more and more creators are using this instead of real voices and everything just comes off as fake or disingenuous.
It’s my voice I just use the silence remover from the voice over in the video editor. Doing it manually takes too long.
if your not gaming you dont need M3
Seems to work great with Xbox cloud gaming and Apple Arcade. That opens up a bunch of games to keep me busy.
5 years? With a computer that has the same amount of RAM and half as much storage as my phone? ha ha ha
Can you game decently this ?
It handles cloud gaming decently. Apple arcade has a few decent games. But I haven’t had a chance to test Mac OS games from Steam. Overall casual gaming is great, but if gaming is your thing a gaming PC or console is going to be better.
@@amo294 just need it for a a couple battle net & emulators to run on it
@@amo294 still trying to debate if I should wait for M3
