Same here, I use many layers of grading, and even on a 4K timeline it runs quite smoothly, but it starts slowing down when I load up with 4K BRAW clips effects, transitions, vignettes, DCTL's, Plugins like Look Designer 2, and use Opti Flow to slow down clips down to 15% sometimes, image stabilizers, then at that point I have to downsize to a 1080P timeline resolution, and set it to Half, then everything is back to running smoothly. But, that's if i don't cache my clips. If I do I can run my timeline at Full playback. What's so interesting too is that while it's exporting I can effortlessly run 3 8k youtube videos, no problem. I can do all of this with just 16GB of ram and a 500GB internal ssd. Exports run quite well too. I'm always amazed that I can go for a quick walk and a 1 hour video loaded with all of this will be done by when I come back.
Nice man! I bought the same thing last September but upgraded the ram to 32gb which really helps when working with fusion comps and fusion based plugins. It was a huge difference from my M1 Mac mini in regards to video editing.
@@AndreiRestrepo Yeah, Davinci just eats ram. I've been adding motion tracked titles and graphics to my RE videos so I needed the extra ram. Your RE videos are already top tier as is. Keep up the awesome work man!
I was thinking of getting this as well, but on the fence with the RAM upgrade. Do you think it's worth while upgrading the RAM or just overkill? Appreciate the feedback.
This M2 pro way exceeds my expectations , I have upgradeitis and after finding out that this device has embedded technology I'm happy. From what I've read the M3 has fewer GPU cores than the M2 pro , max and ultra. I'm glad find out from this video about this SSD option
This is slowly becoming a sweet temptation for me as a casual hobby videomaker. I've been using a Linux editing machine, less often than I wished: CPU AMD Ryzen7 3700X with discrete Radeon GPU, 1 TB NVMe, 32 GB RAM. I bought it before Apple Silicon became a reality. 4K video editing in Shotcut is quite choppy even with proxy, if you start to add a couple of text overlays, and export @60 fps takes nearly forever. This, combined with monstrous power draw, has quite scared me away. Seriously considering DVR Studio (Adobe's subscription business model is a scam to me!), I wonder how good it performs.
I feel that! On my old intel based MacBook Pro, it couldn't handle newer codecs from cameras and it was so choppy and just made me dread editing and took forever. I agree, not a fan of adobe's subscription plans and I even had to downgrade my plan because the price kept going up and I only use 3 apps, not all of them. But this computer is still fantastic! No plans on upgrading anytime soon. Thanks for watching!
im working with the Blackmagic 6k to make sure, im good with my video projects, im going for this computer but will upgrade to 32 ram that way I know I can edit 6k for sure thank you for your video
I was looking for the Mac Mini M2 Pro 1 year update from other youtubers and your video came up first. lol. I'm in the creative industries as well and looking for an upgrade from my old M1 Macbook Air.
I do a lot of heavier tasks (than photography) using a lot of compositing in my 4k Braw (Blackmagic Design codec) videos. I've also done some tests using Red Raw (Komodo) footage in 8K, using noise reduction (which is a cpu hog) and a lot of heavy plugins in Davinci's color page, and wow, I still remain impressed. I got my computer in January. Conclusion, this little machine is nothing short of amazing. It can definitely slow down on certain operations, like using Topaz AI for upscaling videos from HD to 4k and even 8k. But while even doing such an intensive job, I can still run 4 streams simultaneously on youtube of 4K video in 60FPS, and an extra stream of 8k on youtube running normally. This is all while I'm either upscaling in Topaz or exporting a video in D. Resolve. And this little guy at that point will warm up, and that's the only time I hear a fan come on. Mind you I'm only using the baseline M2 Pro model with 10 /16 CPU/GPU, 512 GB SSD. A few points to clarify, Davinci Resolve has crashed on several occasions, the instant cache process has sometimes slowed down the timeline, making it seem as if the M2 Pro were lagging, but that wasn't the case and because I use very dense effects without going into Fusion tab in Resolve yet, all in the edit page still, and I use a lot of grading nodes with external plugins (Look Designer 2) I do need to lower the timeline resolution to 1080P to work comfortably. But despite the crashes, and having to adjust how Davinci accesses the media in real time, with the least amount of lag, my baseline M2 Pro with only 16 GB of ram handles everything like a charm.
Great review I just got the m2 pro base model and runs very smooth. Waiting on FCPX code to come in so I can start editing in 4K as well. Unfortunately adobe software is known to be a memory hog and regardless how much memory you have it’ll still lag which is very annoying.
This was a really informative video! The Lexar SL600 SSD I didn't know existed, affordable SSD. That's really cool that you have a photo & video business for real estate. I've subscribed and I'm ready to enjoy more of your content! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Yeah, still using the Lexar ssd as one of my main editing drives, works great! Appreciate the sub, I have a lot more content on real estate photo & video if you’re interested! Thanks for watching
Welcome! And yes, the MX Keys Mini and MX Master 3S. Super happy with both! Been using them for a good while now. Definitely recommend. Thanks for watching!
if the Mac Studio M2 Max was available when you purchased the Mac Mini M2 Pro, which would you have bought? thanks for the effort and sharing. thumbs up.
What is the price difference between the two? I think the answer would still be the m2 pro assuming it’s more affordable that the studio. It’s still been great!
Idk too much of the technically side but being that h.265 is a newer codec, it's much harder for older computers to process and decode. My more powerful older MacBook Pro laptop could barely run h.265 files without almost blowing up, vs the m2 pro runs them smoothly and fine. So as long as your computer isn't affected by it, not much of a difference! Sometimes h.265 can also be smaller files too I believe. Thanks for watching!
This little machine is really great - I did a test with hi-res MRI pics (bigger then 8K RAW) and it works fine - a windows machine has toruble and the small M1, too - Ok for fairness - this kind of images are generaly process on a special kind of machine (PACS machines) like high-performence server - so that is impressive what this little machine can. Ok single user and no multiuser access like in an hospital - may then this Mac Mini died^^.
Damn I need to update my laptop 😂 I have a 2018 apple macbook pro...DUDE this has just sold it for me. I might get the macbook pro just because I travel abit more. Dope video thank you.
Do you think the Mac mini will be powerful enough to put together and edit 30-60 minutes documentaries in 4k quality using visual transitions with music in the background and AI voice without lag and stuttering?
Definitely! But it all depends on so many specifics like the editing program you’re using, camera codecs, third party plugins that might be heavier on the computer, and so on. The safe route would be to urged the memory to be sure even though for me it’s plenty! Thanks for watching
Andrei yas photo guys with some video then dump subscription picture and works with your video daws called Pixelmator Pro because it can color videos just like a picture coloring!
