Woodturning - A Chunk of Cherry
Вставка

- In this video I take a gnarly chunk of Cherry and turn a vessel ..I thought this piece would have lots of character and some defects, some of which I left and some I filled with an antique gold epoxy ..I finished the piece with Danish oil ..

That gold resin is a beautiful complement to the color of the cherry. 💜
I always watch Andy every time that he is making a new thing. I just love watching what he can do with a chunk of wood that anyone else would burn. He is a great prow with that lathe.
I wasn't expecting to like that half-filled and half-not look, but by the end you turned it into something really coherent and beautiful!
I especially enjoy watching the wood patterns come to life as you apply the finish. Beautiful project.
Me too. It just drives me crazy that he won't show what wet finishes he uses. I know the three step polish (Tripoli, high gloss, and carbona wax) but his wet finishes are a mystery to me.
one of the best things is the "no boring commentary/tutorial". I didn't come here to learn, only to be amazed.
just satisfying spinning and scratching wood noises
Who else watches these in 2 times speed because it’s so satisfying
Just did it!
Been doing that for the last 6 months.
Thats the best way to watch!
Me🙋🏻♀️
Never thought to, might try to someday
The clean classic shape, let's the wood with all it's flaws shine through, every now and then us Woodturners get it just right, you know that moment when we stop and dont do that extra one thing. This I feel is one of those. Really love it.
Absolutely beautiful! I love the color you chose for filling the cracks, and that you left the big crack remain. Great looking vase.
I love how you turned just a simple shape- and it made the wood’s natural beauty shine!!!💥
Well obviously this is my absolute favorite Andy Phillip original.....EVER.
LOL...I'm just glad you didn't choose pink... I might've had to overrule on that one! Thanks.
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning Luckily for you, I've never been a pink kind of girl.....
Beautiful... a prefect blend of repaired and left alone flaws... beauty with lots of character!!! Another masterpiece...
The turning is spectacular. The wood is spectacular... And the winner is: the cherry chunk of wood. What a beautiful turning. You should be so pleased.
Yet again I cannot doubt that this will be an amazing price of art by the greatest Woodturning UA-camr to ever exist!!
Another beautiful piece with Cherry wood no less, one of my favourite trees.
I could pick ur brain for hours just on the tools and techniques you use. Always fun to watch your videos please keep making them.
I prefer this way used in the video, instead of the ones that use lots of that resin. This looks much more natural, which is why you'd want a wood vase thing in the first place, for the natural look
What a beautiful piece of wood. I have several pieces my dad made back in the fifties....just beautiful...what beautiful work sir...ur so talented...
Amazing, from a ‘chunk of cherry’ to a beautiful vase! Remarkable.
Im still amazed as to how you take something most people would throw into the fire place and turn it into sheer beauty... your work is incredible.

Seeing the hidden beauty, I build furniture and use limbs ( around 3 to 4 inches)that most pl would grind up or burn that twist and curve and turn them into chair arms or legs ( seeing the hidden beauty 👍😊)
Damn that's good. I love how you understand the grain and use it and all existing imperfections to your advantage every time. Cheers.
Love it. Your description make it a metaphor for life: character due to some defects, mended here and there but beautiful as it is. Like Leonard Cohen once said: "I love the cracks: that's were the light gets in". Well done again Andy!
Andy... You certainly excel at knocking "the ugly" off of what many would see as firewood... Not a skill to be underestimated.
Some people are so talented they can make this and then there’s my lazy ass that can’t even make a sandwich properly without screwing it up. Loving the videos, so relaxing
Hey! I tried making a sandwich on a lathe and am still finding pieces of it.
@@sparkomatic803 Knee slapper!!!!! And I make a mean sandwich. I believe everyone has a talent. It's all about finding out what you're good at.
THIS IS MY VISUAL THERAPY. AS ALWAYS, PHENOMENAL ARTISTRY.
Beautiful piece. Love how you bring out the natural characteristics of the wood.
Thank you for just having ambient sound and not adding music or droll commentary. Well paced and edited to keep my attention on the process of creating.
Hello sir, hope you are doing well.. Well you should actually put photo of that log in the end of video like before and after, we almost forget how that log was earlier and how beautiful that log is now..
U have put life into that log..
I am in love of this art.. ❤️❤️❤️
Your vision and skill to create your vision are incredible and a pleasure to watch !!
Россия в восторге! Как всегда очередной шедевр! Респект!Краснодар!
Your choice of color with the resin was perfect. It doesnt distract from the wood.
Cherry is another one of my favorites to turn. Cherry is like wine because the color gets better with age
Hunk of wood: "I'm so ugly, no one will ever love me."
Sir Phillip: "Come here, little guy."
Ha ha ,good one!!
Nice, very nice
Seeing the hidden beauty.👍
😂👍
*proceeds to carve into it's body*
OK! I am definitely a fan. Thanks for sharing this amazing adventure.
Brilliant! Love the grain and the cracks. Great character. Another triumph!
Thanks James
I would have never thought you would end up with that considering what you started with. Beautiful!
I like how subtle the resin accents are. The color is subdued so that you can focus on it or ignore it, depending on the lighting.
I was surprised you were able to hollow that without spindle support, Andy, but you did! I really like that you filled some cracks and left the large one unfilled. Really a great contrast. That's what makes you the master! Just an over all, beautiful piece, as is your norm.
Phil
The Master LOL .. Thanks so much Phil
I love the "perfect" pieces too, but somehow the ones with the big cracks or imperfections end up being my favorites.
Your videos are so satisfying to watch. It calms me way down.
Maybe he can turn a piece of wood into covid 19 cure. If not, these videos are fantastic for being quarantined.
If he sold one every year for +$23 trillion and donated proceeds to the president's
deficit debt restructuring fund then I'm sure he could stop the disease spreading ;-)
it's cool to see how it's made from a messed up piece of wood, to a work of art, great work👍👍
So beautiful, thank you for showing off the natural beauty of cherry wood.
Very nice!!! Thank you for not filling the imperfection with reson..I love this piece
Just recently found your channel, Andy. Amazing stuff! Looking forward to you opening your Etsy page again. I feel a purchase coming on.
J Alan Miller I have the exact same feeling 🥰
How long does one of these usually take? The sheer amount of work honestly looks like it could take up a full day from my perspective! It's super impressive!
Beautiful work. Fascinating watching what you turn a hunk of wood into!
Very pretty piece Andy, the contrast of colours and the void looks great.
I don't know the first thing about wood turning. All I know is I love watching your videos, so relaxing! Some talent you've got Andy and that vase is beautiful!
Most people would burn a chunk like that out of ignorance, you, you give it new life and purpose, awesome AP, thanks!
Color for the cracks was great, loved that you use the holes as beautiful addition to the piece, outstanding look
Another beautiful vase. Love the gold accent.
Very nicely done Andy 🏆 I like it a lot😃 Thanks for presenting to us🙏 -Mike
Very nice vase....
Thanks for sharing....🙏
I’m always excited when I see a new video posted by this craftsman! This was a phenomenal piece of work!
Watching you work is kinda therapeutic for me. My tremors make it impossible for me to ever turn wood. This helps.
True art! Thank you! I love that you obviously have much respect for the material you're working with -- wood. Even Mother Nature's imperfections are often a beautiful thing. My only regret is that much of the piece was lost when the base was cut off. At the same time as I say that I don't know how I would have done anything differently -- I love the end result.
It must cost a fortune in flowers for the wife to keep filling these master pieces. Wood is beautiful stuff, you must enjoy doing this or youve got a real fetish for cleaning up another lovely piece always amazed by end result.
Wow, I do love wood ! Your works of art always make me smile 😊 thanks again Andy 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💖
Wonderful work, Andy! Really beautiful! 😃
You know, yesterday I f***ed my hand trying to sand a small piece of wood... 😬
But I don't regret it, it's the learning process! 😂
Really admire people whose really good in arts and crafts, how much more curving wood and creat into such an amazing creativity salute you sir
Wow! What an amazing piece of art! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! The story of that tree is revealed in the grain.
Beautiful looking Andy! Thank you for sharing with us!💖👌👍😎JP
I'm going to look at my first lathe tomorrow. Thank you for the vids. I'm a veteran and this gives me some peace. I think turning will too.
Funny, the moment the video began, I thought, 'wouldn't some gold epoxy look nice with cherry. I don't think I've ever seen him use gold before.' And then, low and behold, you only break out the gold! Ha!
Wonderful work, and colour/finish choice, as always, you massive handed artist, you! ;p
Thanks LOL ..
Beautiful piece. The resin you added complements the wood.
Very pretty I like the natural areas enhanced.
Your vision and talent never disappoints. Thank you for sharing with us. :)
Hello Thank you very much my dear freind beautiful 💖☕🙋♀️🙋♀️

Καλά, όσα βιντεάκια έχω δει ,όλα που κάνει είναι φανταστικά. Έχει μαγικο χέρι....Μπραβο σου Andy είσαι τέλειος...
You're going to have to pardon me for having an overwhelming need to watch two Dr. Jones have escapades through Germany. Up till a beautiful vase appeared I couldn't help myself 'Well that's the cup of a carpenter..." Cheers good work man!
official when I watched the Indy movies at about 6 that one flew over my head, wondered why my parents were laughing as an adult I love how I laugh and my kids go waa?
This turned out so beautiful! I like that you left the natural hole in the side as well as the little touches of resin 💜
Turned out Beautiful!! 👍👍
I like the design and the cracks! Very elegant!
Wow!! Great work! Beautiful form and amazing wood! Thanks!!!🙏👍✌
Always brilliant Andy.
You seem to turn with such ease. I've learnt a lot about chisel angles and chisel control just from watching your videos. Thanks for your great work mate
You're awesome. I find these vids so soothing.
Beautiful Andy! Love the grain of the wood. You took a chunk of ugly and made it awesome! ❤
at one point it was looking quite the shape of a pint of guinness, lovely piece. i love the subtle amber coloured resin.
Looks like swirls of honey!Beautiful piece
Nice, just enough finish for this.
Fantastic job sir.
That one of the most beautiful turned pieces I've seen. Well done!
Brilliant job Andy. Looks amazing. 👍👍👍

Incredible! Thanks for making content even in quarantine

Veramente bel lavoro! Giusta scelta del colore e l'idea di lasciare la crepa si rivela come la scelta giusta . Sono contento di aver seguito questo video. Pollice su !!!!
