Mary if you could go into movies what 3 movies would you love to be in? 🤔✌️❤️😚☺️
Mary can I recommend a movie called dragon heart you will love this movie I guarantee it ❤️✌️😚☺️
Mary, you never fail to look lovely, but you’re even more beautiful on the inside. 🍒
@@Sweetish_Jeff_ amen 🥰😍
@@jeremystevens6640 Oh yes! A forgotten gem.
This movie was way ahead ahead of it's time. People just didn't get it when it was first released.
Yeah. But hey, this film made a profit on home video (VHS), and now it's a Cult-Classic that has aged very well.
From the director of Die Hard and Predator, this movie is darn underappreciated. I still have my VHS of it up top on the shelf behind me.
In general, I can recommend most of the early films with and by Eddie Murphy
Top Shelf? With a bit of porn perhaps?
@@karlydoc - Nah, I keep the porn in the footlocker under my bed. The VHS tapes can stay by the ceiling, cause I don't use them nearly as much anymore...
Loved it when it came out and was confused why so many critics were so harsh towards it. I really think it was just Arnold was so big and making so many blockbusters that they took any little thing to attack!
John McTiernan!!!!Good director!!!
I highly recommend TRUE LIES! It's from James Cameron and with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Eraser is good too!
If Mary see "True Lies" we know that Jamie Lee Curtis scene is going to be her favorite🔥
@@WillsonT011 Yes, Jamie Lee has a knack for scenes.
That movie is great!
Great suggestion of a great movie!
Mary: That is not Charles Dance.
Me: That 100% IS Charles Dance!
She shod watch The Golden Child! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 "Brother Noomsi!!" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@michaelriddick7116 and i think that guy the ripper is cain from robocop 2
@@tiagoalves2056 That's right - Tom Noonan. Also the serial killer in 'Manhunter', and Frankenstein's Monster in 'The Monster Squad'.
IMDB also thinks that is Dance.
It could have been 100% Alan Rickman with Die Hard director McTiernan at the helm. But Charles Dance is delicious too.
Perhaps the most underrated and unappreciated action movie ever
I agree totally 1000%!!!!One of Arnold's Best Films!!!!
I have always loved this movie! It's towards the end of the "golden era" of over the top action movies when they started to poke fun at their own tropes and cliches. None do it better than this though.
Yeah. I love the fact that they tried something different for a change. This film was ahead of its time.
You are Erased.
This movie was very tongue-in-cheek and it showed that Arnold could laugh at himself. It’s a fun movie.
"Two day to retirement"
*Lethal Weapon theme tune playing in the background*
Gotta love that reference lol
These "movie within a movie" concepts are always fun. It's a mind bend.
This movie really was ahead of its time. Nobody at the time really understood the humor of it.
yes, truee.
It's not a very well executed film (to be clear, I LOVE this movie, but that doesn't blind me to problems). Schwarzenegger wanted to make a borderline-parody of his action movies, but this movie when past that line. They got it right when they made "True Lies."
Coming off big action movies. It wasn’t what people went to Arnold movies expected. You go to see the Terminator not a movie making light of it. So it was doomed to have mixed reviews.
But as a stand alone and as a concept it’s great.
True & the soundtrack was fairly decent as well.
I remember liking it at the time, and discussing it with friends. Nobody missed much of the humour. I think it just wasn't widely watched.
fun fact, that Mozart joke was i really metajoke, becourse F, Murrey Abraham played Sallieri in Milos Foreman`s Amadeus.
I suspect Arnold really does prefer classical (he's Austrian after all), and included references to Mozart on purpose.
@@Caseytify i always thought he'd be Bach's fan
That's known by everybody and is not fun.
LOL 😄
@@Caseytify Austrians listen to techno.
100% charles dance
also the cop that turned on slater at the funeral was in a movie called "amadeus" which is a lightly fictionalized account of the end of mozarts life where he played a rival that caused his death.
F. Murray Abraham
It won 8 oscars
More than lightly fictionalized, in reality Salieri even taught Mozarts son.
Definitely a top 5 Arnie movie and one of the most underrated movies of all time.
1000%!!!!
This came out during the time when Arnold & Stallone were rivals about 2 decades and would poke fun at each other in their movies.
Fun facts: The actress that plays Jacks daughter, went on to play Sonja Blade in the "Mortal Kombat" movie.
-the way he mispronounced his name was based on the many mispronounces he's heard up till then.
-the Mayor of the city was played by Tina Turner.
-Great big Asian butler is the late great wrestler, Professor Toru Tanaka. He played Sub Zero in "The Running Man".
-The animated Cat detective is voiced by Danny DeVito.
-if the moon was THAT close to the earth, all life would end!
-The Chief in this movie plays the Chief in several cop movies. He's the go-to guy for that.
-The cops, in this film, are based on the kinds of cops you see in movies; from funny to *naughty.*
-Many of the villains played villains in other movies.
My 2 favourite lines in cinema
1st "No my friends, you bow to no one"
2nd "Look, elephant!"
This movie just gets better and better with time. One of the most underrated movies ever. Jack Slater is my favorite Arnie role along with Harry Tasker in True Lies.
I love this movie! I still remember the first time I saw it at the theaters. My uncle took me when I was a kid. I love all the humor and action. I also love the music in the movie. If you want to see an even younger Charles Dance in a movie. You should watch the Golden Child. Another action comedy but with Eddie Murphy.
An he plays another devilishly good villian
Also he was a henchman in that one James Bond film. For Your Eyes Only
My dear brother Numpsay!
@@Thom1212 😅
Golden Child!!!Awesome!!!
The tar pits are a parody of the La Brea Tar Pits right smack dab in the middle of L.A. - in the film there are shown large fiberglass dinosaurs. In reality there are life-size mammoths, mastodons, saber-tooth cats, giant ground sloths, dire wolves and hundreds of other extinct species that dies in the tarpits. Animals would come to drink the rainwater on top of the tar and get trapped. Herbivores would struggle and carnivores would attack and go down with the prey. Hundreds of thousands of extinct animal bones have been retrieved from the Pits and a museum (including the L.A. County Art Museum) of paleontology has been built around the Pits. There is an excellent film starring the Tarpits called Miracle Mile, an excellent sci-fi-adventure. The Miracle Mile is the nickname for that section of Wilshire Boulevard that contains the Tarpits and museums.
Or maybe "Volcano"...
@@Thom1212 - the one with James Bond? Or is that the other volcano movie?
@@dennismason3740 The one I'm referring to is named "Volcano" the one with Pierce Brosnan is Dante's Peak
@@Thom1212 - thank you. So many volcanoes that year.
The tar pits are also featured in the video game LA Noire.
For an action satire movie this is one of my favorites.
F. Murray Abraham played in the movie "Amadeus" (more or less a biopic of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart).
Rock me, Amadeus!
@@Sweetish_Jeff_ Relax, Falco.
@@ItsVincentAgain Jusr having fun.
Me, first time watching this movie: "Hm, that actor playing Death is pretty good."
Me watching it today: "OH MY GOD IS THAT MAGNETO??"
No, is gandalf
No, that's not Magneto. The guy playing death is Gandalf, the White.
@@stevenorellano2039 he was both Gandalf and Magneto.
Very underrated movie, the concept was way ahead of its time. If this movie was made now, it would've been a huge success.
The old lady is Joan Plowright one of the greatest British actresses.
Mary Cherry , Not too many younger people will notice that this movie breaks the record for the most Hollywood Movie star cameos. I am in my 60s and there are Hollywood Icons that were stars before my time. Just check the Cast using IMDB, you will be shocked.
Surprisingly, not a lot of people recognize that Whiskers the cartoon cat was actually voiced by Danny Devito, who acted with Arnold in Twins and Junior!
Charles Dance was the villain in the Golden Child but in For Your Eyes Only he wasn't even a henchman, just a lackey.
You may also enjoy The golden child with Eddie Murphy , Charles dance plays a great villain in that as well .
Fun fact: The kid in this movie also starred in one of my favorite childhood movies, Prehysteria!
He's apparently a professional photographer now.
This was Austin O'Brien's first film role. He was also Nick Zsigmond in My Girl 2 and the whiz kid in Apollo 13.
Ripper is an absolutely haunting villain!
But this movie was so fun to watch as a kid. The concept is so cool too!
So many critics back in the day just did not understand this movie at all, it is so underrated. Another great Arnold's movie is Kindergarten cop, not sure if you saw it, but that one is really enjoyable to watch.
Another good movie with young Charles Dance on it is "The Golden Child". That film has Eddie Murphy as the main. I recommend that film.
Glad you were able to watch this. I’ve suggested this movie to other reactors but no takers. Just a fun popcorn movie. I would also recommend True Lies if you haven’t seen it.
Marry, if you want to see Charles Dance play a devil watch 1986s The Golden Child
27:24 , for some reason when you said Danny it made me think Danny Davito, then I listened to the voice of the cat and looked up the credits, yea the animated cat is Danny DeVito!
My favourite cameo is Robert Patrick in a blink and you'll miss it style, he's just walking out of the police station with the full terminator 2 look as they go in.
I love this movie, great to see you enjoyed it. It was slightly overshadowed when it was released with Jurassic Park, who would have guessed that would have been such a hit.
I knew it was going to be a hit
Uhm... Everyone on earth knew that was gonna be a hit. Spielberg. Live action dinosaurs.
Everyone I knew was dying to see it
But no one expected it to be so big it would swallow even a swarzenneger film
@@rockyseverino9230 I guess its the internet and I should have been clearer but I was being sarcastic when I said that. Of course Jurassic Park was going to annihilate anything in its path.
I love the Def Leppard song played during the credits called "Two Steps Behind". Was awesome that Def Leppard did a song for this movie.
Love Def Leppard.
Super underrated. The last half of this movie is so good
I was in the United States, Marine Corps and a hang grenade usually goes off within 4 to 6 seconds after the pin is pulled and the spoon is released just enough time to throw it
James Belushi (one of the cameos) and Arnold Schwarzenegger did "Red Heat" together.
A great parody but so unique.. the reason we go to movies.. one of my faves!!
This is underrated af ohhh my such a joy of a movie.
I've never heard someone disrespect a pair of Cowboy boots by calling them "shoes" before!
My all time favorite action movie lol. It's the "Scream" of action genre
And to think, this was always regarded as, according to critics, Arnie's 1st official "box office bomb".......goes to show that audiences do share a DIFFERENT opinion.
When this movie came out it had mix reactions. I liked it but looking back on it after all these years it actually aged well. Compared to movies today that are rehash of older movies this one is very different. They took a chance that could have easily been a flop if not done right.
It was a flop
But it was done right too
Just ahead of it's time
@@rockyseverino9230 Well that and they stubbornly decided to release it a week after Jurassic Park.
This is top tier Arnold. Not only are they making fun of some of the genre clichés that made his career, but also not taking himself too seriously. Back then the "rivalry" between him and Sly was something they often had in their respective movies. Now, taking copyright laws and such too serious makes these things almost impossible.
Another fun Arnold action movie is True Lies (1994). It's over the top closer to a James Bond movie without being one. Him and Jamie Lee Curtis are great together, with a great cast otherwise too. So good you'll never mind that it's just outrageously unbelievable at times.
Demolition Man came out about the same time with the joke about Arnold becoming President.
@@flatebo1 yes, the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. ;)
@@Caseytify A joke made all the more hilarious when Republicans proposed amending the Constitution to eliminate the “natural-born American citizen” requirement for the Presidency specifically so they could put Arnold up for the office.
44:28 "Someone has to tell this guy he's fictional"
Well he seems to be the real death in the real world because he's got all his powers.
But what I like about the quote "I don't do fiction" is that Ian played Gandalf several years later. It's so funny on so many levels!
This was movie was Deadpool before Deadpool was released!
But Deadpool the character, 2 years before this movie.
You should definitely check out director John Mctiernan's other films Predator and Die Hard. Other light-hearted Arnold films I recommend are Twins, Kindergarten Cop and True Lies. This perfectly satirizes action movie tropes from the 80's. This was released the same year as Jurassic Park
She already seen Die Hard
Kindergarten Cop- yes!
Yay M! Absolute Meta! Last Action Hero definitely had it all! Fantastic reaction as usual M!
Among the numerous references in the film, a delightful and subtle one is the tune of "Lethal Weapon" playing, when the soon-to-be-dead cop says "Two days to retirement!"
"I feel that Charles Dance would play a good devil" - Look up The Golden Child (1986) staring Eddie Murphy
13:25 Lighting a cigar with a lit dynamite fuse might be the most 90s action movie move ever
Buster Keaton lit his cigarette with a lit bomb in his short movie Cops (released 100 years ago this week!)
That was the last movie me and my high school buddies saw together after graduation and would be the last time I saw or heard from three fourths of them.
Remember that quote for every movie you'll watch.. "Because This Is A Movie" lol
Charles Dance was also in The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy years earlier in 1986.
Romeo and Juliet Baz Luhrman. Moderns day Shakespeare, literally
Glad somebody finally said it. Last Action Hero has always reminded me of GTA V as well.
They're both over the top recreations of hollywood movies.
The old lady also played in the movie "Dennis the menace" and "bringing down the house" with Queen latifah, Betty White and Steve Martin.
She's also the widow of Laurence Olivier, whose film adaptation of Hamlet is the one they're watching in class. She's a highly respected actress in her own right, mind you - though the last twenty years of her film career is not a reliable demonstration of that. I expect it paid the bills.
This was an amazing parody of 80's/90's action films.
I was just a kid when I first saw this movie when it came out in theaters. I loved it. You won't be disappointed
The kid was asking Slater to drop an F-bomb. At that time you did not find those in PG movies so he would not be able to say it.
Mary, if you're interested in checking out more meta stuff, I highly recommend Wes Craven's New Nightmare and the Scream movies.
Absolutely god I hope she watches those movies 🙏❤️✌️
New nightmare is a bit dated for someone her age, plus it plays better if you've seen the other nightmare films
Scream however doesn't really have any fantasy elements and ancient special effects so it completely holds up
And Cabin in the Woods
@@najhoant oh absolutely
Happy you finally got around to this one. It reminds me of a time when films were just fun and enjoyable and didn't have some kind of message to sell.
One reason this movie is often overlooked stems from its release one week after Jurassic Park. It got overshadowed by the juggernaut dino movie. It didn't do well at the box office cuz it didn't land at the right time. It struggled to find an audience and got a bad rap because of it. I do think there's some pacing issues towards the beginning. But, it's really a great, fun movie, and it's well loved by those who found it.
i worked at a movie theater when this came out and i absolutely loved it. Its so meta and is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, So glad you found it.
"Rubber baby buggy bumpers!" 🤣😂😂🤣😂😊💪😎💪
The video store scene is one of the funniest scenes ever. 😂😂😂
Raw Deal is on the racks in the store.
As a former professional video critic who worked in that business for nearly a decade, I love that scene.
YUP!Charles Dance!Fabulous actor!!The actress playing the schoolteacher was actress Joan Plowright!Amazing actress!!
There is on character I recognized right away. Jack's favorite 2nd cousin is played by Art Carney who played Norton in the 1950's sitcom "The Honeymooners" with Jackie Gleeson. This was his final appearance.
I just rewatched this last weekend. So glad to see someone reacting to it.
This is my favorite movie from Arnold’s silly goose era.
One of my favorite movies as a kid lol. The in hero entrance and villains were iconic to me.
I say this one and Demolition Man pair up nicely for a movie night
I was an Extra in a few scenes in this film!!!Such a fun shoot too!!!One scene i was in the background in was the movie theater premiere where Arnold tackles Jack to the ground and the Ripper Axe slides down the drapes.I was an audience member!!!!!
That IS Charles Dance. This is the second movie I ever saw him in. The first was Alien 3
45:50 Doctor really hit us with the "Tis but a scratch!"
An underrated 90s gem!
Still waiting for that awesome version of "Hamlet".
Get Baz Luhrmann on the phone.
26:08 - "Pull my finger" joke.
I met Arnold in Virginia back in the early 90s. He was going from school to school promoting health and fitness. I was only 12 years old. He was so cool. Great experience. Awesome movie too.
The Last Starfighter (1985) a great movie. Mirror Mask (2005) a Jim Henson film, a spiritual sequel to Labyrinth (1986). Or for something more magical, Night Watch (2004) a foreign film with English dubbing by the cast, explores a Russian fairytale with vampires 🧛♀️
And the sequel, Day Watch (2006).
Thumbs up = number one: Anthony Quinn at that point had severe arthritis, and, as such, it's very difficult for a person with arthritis to articulate their fingers.
Damn they use to play this movie all the time as a kid basically my first experience counting easter eggs but I was also watching sidekicks hotshot and naked gun at the time so meta was never anything new to me
Definitely recommend “Sidekicks”. Blatant rip-off of “The Karate Kid”, but totally cheesetastic.
Fun fact one of the theaters that is used is the Loews Theater in Jersey City...I saw my first movie there as a little boy. I saw E.T.
People never understood this kind of meta movie..it's so sad..
Another little know movie worth a review is The Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans.
“Hudson Hawk” is another one similar to this.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid
I never got the hatred this movie got at the time. Glad to see it's getting its due. ALSO the process of Mary realizing it's Charles Dance was cute. 😆❤
You missed a couple early cameo's because your young. Anthony Quinn played Vivaldi, he was pretty famous years ago and won 2 Academy Awards. Also Art Carney who was a side kick to Jackie Gleason played Frank. Of course you would need to know who Jackie Gleason was and I kind of doubt that you do. He had a Popular TV show in 1955 and 56. But those two actors were pretty famous you just probably have never seen them in anything.
Tom Noonan(He plays The Ripper) is such a fantastic actor
Charles Dance, Anthony Quinn and Art Carney. This was kinda special for a lot of us old guys.
Loved this movie for it's being a parody of all action movies, and with a stellar cast. Not to mention that Mercedes was a wonderfully beautiful woman who had great acting chops beyond this movie.
This was Art Carney's (second cousin) next to last film. Loved that Anthony Quinn was in it as well.
That elderly lady you said was in a lot of movies. She's really good in the spiderwick Chronicles. She wasn't as crazy as people thought she would.
U r right with the L.A. call. Lol. Those water ways r all over L.A.
I was 9 years old when this movie came out.
Absolutely love the soundtrack of this movie.
