- Hey guys. Finally I found out why my car was using so much fuel.
In this video you will see the process I had to go throw to find the cause of poor fuel consumption.

My 118d 90kw 2004 without dpf have 10l in a town and around 5-6l outside the town , 280k still original turbo , but several active diagnostics don't cracked the problem it may have , only one fuel injector have some air thing going on and it's bit of fuel around it 🤔 going to look at thermostat today but engine seem to be quite hot even after 4km short ride thru town and 10km ride to the mechanic was temperature 96c, changed new oil separator, new 5w30 mobile oil ( after 14k km ) , there was handbrake being replaced but I can't smell any smell from rear wheels after ride , guess it would drag and burn 🤔

Bro , i have the exact same symptoms on my e87 120d , exact whistling sound and loss of power... i think i found the problem from this video. I have a question , did changing that tube fix your whistling sound when reving the engine ?? Much respect !!

Thanks for this video. I had a 1 series 7yrs ago and it was amazing on Diesel consumption. Now I have just bought a used one and it is drinking far too much Diesel. I'm going to take this to my garage to show them.

Love your channel. I have the same m47 motor. Have my turbo done up but the power is not there like before. Hardly any boost.

brother i just bought a bmw and in urban is saying like youres 17-19l-100km on display.I read down you said is consuming 8l in urban.How to calculate that?
can you please share in particular your fuel consumption observations...like XX l/100km on short/medium / long runs and the outside temperature?
Here are mine (all with 90% autobahn)
its a e87 118d 122hp with 200k KM
5.5l - 100-140km/h temp>18C
5.8l - 100-140km/h 12C>temp>18C
6.1l - 100-140km/h 5C>temp>12C
6.5l - 100-140km/h 0C>temp>8C
6.9l - 100-140km/h -5C 5C
7.5l 100-140km/h -20C>temp>-5C
5.8l - 120-160km/h temp>18C
6.1l - 160-200km/h temp>18C
all speed numbers as per odometer (so calc. -10-15km/h), BC displays avrg. speed of 72km/h-79km/h, but I believe it takes like more than 5k KM into account

Did you fix the issue? Mine (e87 118d m47 90kw) consumes around 5-6 liters of fuel per 100km on the roads which is way above advertised, but my friends (e81 120d n47 130kw) consumes about 4.5L/100km
Hi, currently got a loud whilsting noise in the low rpm range (1400-2500) like you had with your boost leak.
Did the noise go away when you changed the lower intercooler hose? Only it sounds to me like a bad turbo core?

Can you tell me what your fuel consumption was before and after? Because I have got the same car, which also has very bad fuel comsumtion
Before it was 13 Litres per 100 kms = 22 MPG only city driving.

Fuel consumption decreased around 30 percent.

i was getting 29/33mpg (uk) found a boost leak on the bottom turbo to intercooler seal fixed it got 45+ mpg for a day then back to a bad mpg, did some more diagnostics and found the boost leak had moved to the next weak link in the chain the swirl flap seals.
i removed them and fitted a blanking kit and now the car is averaging 47+mpg so a massive difference

Yes. You can use special silicone hose.
