    I'm a 2009 118i M Sport hatch owner. Off your list I've had a timing chain, rear ABS rings, 1 set of coil packs, 1 injector in the 9 years I've had it. Admittedly the rear wiper is stuck in the middle at the mo, but it's a pleasure to own, I love driving it. I see no reason to change my car.

      What mileage was it that you had to have the chain replacement?

      @craigedwards9188 9 місяців тому +3

      @@barrymichaels2663 It was actually quite low, around the 50k mark. I'm very carful to keep the oil changes up to date since.

      Im planning on buying a secondhand 2008 bmw 118i as my first car, would you advise that to me or no?

    • @SatoshiSan5
      @SatoshiSan5 5 місяців тому +2

      @@slecco6930 I happen to have bought a secondhand 2008 118i about a year ago. I think it's a great car but some costs could be a bit higher compared to some other cars. I got mine at 241k KM on the clock but with a lot of big maintenance done at a specialist or dealer. In the 30k KM i drove since, i've had 2 unfortunate replacements being the radiator & gearbox catchpan (both fittings cracked simply from age, wear & tear). Other than that no engine lights or anything "major". I'd say the classic thing of keep about 10 to 20% of the price of the car in your savings for any preventive/sudden repairs. They told me after the last APK (to check if your vehicle is safe and maintained enough to stay on the Dutch roads) that all is well and i won't have to come back for what we call big maintenance (them checking all fluids and parts prone to wear) for another 30k KM or 2 years.
      I'd advise to check for cars that have all the maintenance & parts receipts present so you can check for yourself if all the big stuff like timing chains has already been done recently or is coming up.

    I’ve got a 2010 120d msport trim e87 hatch auto just hit 100k. So far I’ve only had to do a small breaker pipe on the turbo, a wheel hub bearing and replace the front washer jet motor. Also needs an intermittent rear wiper fixing.
    Overall they’re a great daily driver, economical to run on motorway commutes and fun to drive. I always service mine around 10k miles or annually regardless of mileage and replace the oil and filters at that time with OEM products.
    I’d agree though, the headlights are awful on these. I’ve tried nightbreaker bulbs but they only offer marginal improvement.

If you can fine somewhere that does “mots” might be worth gutting it and having it remapped out I know there is some things you can put in your diesel that clean the dpf also. Might be worth trying. Also what diesel are you putting it it? If you’re using normal DONT alsways opt for the premium BMWs are ment to be run on premium I also swapped to premium at the same time as it fixed itself I recommend bp premium or shell’s Vpower. It’s suppose to clean your engine at the same time and being a performance fuel and being all round better for the engine.
