For those in Australia, Red Rooster have a very generous rewards card that is worthwhile! And there is an excellent chance that McDonald's will have a secret meal that is heavily discounted that you won't find on the menu, but can ask for. More than likely this secret meal will only cost $5.00 and will be a burger, small fries and small drink.

If you want to have fresh food from a fast food place: please, please, come inside. Also if you have a huge order call it in as well. You have no idea how annoying it is to be in a rush and have someone come in wanting 20 or 30 something burgers. Also please understand that if you are ordering fresh food that it does take time and a few thing may not be coming straight from the frier. Most hamburgers take 3-5 minutes, chicken 6 or more and the cashier will more than likely drop extra fries for you when you make your order. Without the burgers having a timer (being either a griddle top with a press or the charbroiler of burger) it's hard to guess that when it'll come up for meat on your sandwich.
On the timers of the drive thru, the BK I worked at had 2 minutes 15 seconds for drive. We were always pushed for under 1 minute during non-peak hours. If you want to check your food pull up in front of the building, there's usually a door right by the drive thru that if something comes up wrong you can step inside real quick and it'll be fixed. Sometimes if something's wrong when you get home call the store the same night/day you made the order and they may take your name down and you can get the order corrected the next day or later on.

I can confirm the drive thru timer thing, my GM used to yell at me like "what's going on at the window" and I'd be like "they're checking their order". As they should because our packers were known to fuck up. But still you get the point.

Must be a regional thing. Some places (McDonalds and Wendys for sure) prioritize drive thru time. It's always faster to go through the drive thru...to the point that we don't eat Wendys anymore because we got tired of watching the drive thru customers order, pay AND get their food before anyone bothers to come to the counter to take the orders of the people inside.

That whole timer thing and your boss giving you a hard time if you go over the number they want on average is how every fast food place with a drive thru works. It sucks because they always have unrealistic expectations for the number.
My bosses would want 30 seconds or less.
And this is why we tell people to park when it’s going to take extra long to make their food. It helps keep the timer number down.

I once was at a tim hortons drive through after a long day, and asked for a frosted cinnamon roll and coffee. They said okay that will be however much money. So I pull up to first window, pay. Pull up to second window, receive order, and in the bag was another donut, I told them I ordered the frosted cinnamon roll, they said "we don't sell those here". So I asked "well how come you charged me for it then, and didn't tell me before I paid you didn't sell them?". So they switched it for a donut I actually enjoyed, but the difference between their donuts and the cinnamon rolls was like $1, so I asked for my change, and it took like 10 minutes to get the change. Just as I was about to leave they finally gave me the change, and I looked behind me and there were over 30 cars in the drive through (it was on a highway rest stop). I felt silly, but if someone orders something you don't sell at that location, you can't charge them for it and then give something else and expect them not to notice.
It's reasons like that Tim Hortons is going out of business in Canada.

A Big Mac always costs more than two cheeseburgers, which it essentially is, minus one bun. When you get a Big Mac you are essentially paying twice as much to get a wilted piece of lettuce and a shot of ranch dressing.
Always order your soft drink WITHOUT ice at fast food places -- especially if you're going through the drive through. The drinks are already cold without ice, ice just takes up room in the cup so you get less soft drink, and drinks already have the most over-inflated prices of any item on the menu.

The drive thru timer thing is very true. Even if the manager isn't freakishly obsessed over that, the store/franchise owner most certainly will be - even the ones that usually doesn't appear to give a you-know-what with daily store operations. Drive-thru times are one of the things that fast food corporations are super strick about, right after making sure that their stores don't have any noticeable health violations or deviations from the set standard menu.

@@Loachie90 Generally it goes something like this:
      1) Maintain food health and quality standards to industry standards. (Hard for some stores in certain Fast food chains to actually do - I.e. Incompetent management).
      2) Keep local franchise menu in line with regional and corporate's set menu, prices are (mostly) inflexible and cannot be below or above a certain amount.
      3) Maintain customer satisfaction - most fast good restaurants claim this is their number 1 (to the customers) but that is usually a bold face lie. It's important but not number 1.
      4) Manage drive thru times, preferably below industry wait times amd definitely at or below the maximum wait time allowed by corporate.

The only thing that we had ready were the vegetables that we had sliced for the day, and the meat that had been weighed out and portioned "not frozen patties." I of course cannot say the same for Burger King. They had their patties precooked and kept in a warmer sometimes we would keep them past their time so as to not have waste. Their toppings were pre-cut all we had to do was simply assemble your food. ALWAYS ORDER YOUR FOOD FRESH!!!

Sadly it do not apply to my local McDonald cause crew won't accept custom orders unless you use cashier machine, but after all you have high chance getting regular burger without changes. And almost each time first expression when you open burger box is "salad everywhere". Once time waiting for order spotted how one of employees is making a burger by throwing ingredients into a box, then close it, give it a shake and done, put on the shelf. After two times of food poisoning after weirdly tasting burger I gave up making orders for food there, currently taking only drinks from there like coffee or milkshake. Also always I am wondering why "Fanta" is always spilled and you have to handle with sticky dripping cup.

Also I never go in the drive through, always inside. 9/10 times it's quicker because all the other dummies wait in line outside thinking they are beating the line lol
And I ask for little ice in my drink. It doesn't last long enough for the ice to melt anyway.
And large fries are a joke, they always underfill them so you end up paying essentially for medium. I've taken them back and request they refill it to the proper level. Basically they count on people being too fucking dumb to notice the difference. But if you are on the ball you can actually get what you paid for.

Then there's the small detail that it isn't even a choice for me for eight months of the year because I don't have a car when I'm at college.

Dunno about the U.S., but here in Sweden several of the McD's have changed so along with doing your order at a computer terminal (or register if you prefer), there are no more warming trays (not counting fries). So no pre-made burgers, they make them to order.
With less people on registers, they can have more actually getting food made, and they're the fastest McD's in Sweden now. The ones that still do things the old way with only register orders and lines of pre-made burgers sitting under heating lamps are actually slower on top of being less fresh.

If the workers get mad because I run up their time at the drive-thru it's because they have a history of screwing up the order. You want your time down? Then don't screw up so much. You also want $15 an hour? Earn it and don't scew up so much!

It would help if you SPEAK CLEARLY when you come up to order, actually KNOW what you want BEFORE you order, DON'T make it complicated, and DON'T ask for extra stuff as you are paying the order. As well, DON'T be rude to the cashier/service person. We do at times put first-time employees at that position (though never without a crew trainer or a manager nearby), and even if the person has been at the job for years, they can still have bad days just like YOU.
Common sense is all that's needed to help make your experience go smoothly when you visit one of our restaurants.
Also, if we feel the job we do is WORTH a pay raise at the Federal Level, then who else but the people that actually WORK at our job should know that we should get a raise? It's nothing more than YOU would demand for your own job.

The last (nugget) tip isn’t true in the UK. The opposite is true. 4 nuggets only come in a £2.99 happy meal. 6 nuggets are £3.19, 9 are £3.39 and 20 are £3.99 so I always feel compelled to order 20 - but I can’t eat that many so I need to try to get my friends or family to share them. I’d rather give my son some along with tap water (it’s good here) and a 99p large fries. Also, I have a special card with discounts to a bunch of retailers - one of which is a Big Mac and fries for £1.99 - or a mcchicken sandwich and fries. So, a Big Mac, medium fries and 20 nuggets for £5.98 is pretty good.

I idea of fast food is to buy a whole cooked chicken and add my own sides; I can feed a family of four for the less than a "value meal" and it is more nutritionally sound. Plus, I am convinced that fast food ground beef will ultimately be responsible for allowing "mad cow" disease into our food chain.

It is all dependent on the setup of the restaurant I worked at Burger king and their setup made it impossible to have fresh food. If anything we were expected to cook a batch and we had warmers where we would wait for a customer to order and then simply assemble the food. Not at Smashburger tho, we didn't even have warmers. All food was made to order but they were set up differently so that was easy to do and was expected. It's up to the company to place their standards and set ups to make it possible to do this. No employee getting minimum wage will go out of their way to make one by one. Not even me and I have standards!!
