    I just rebuilt my 2007 Chevrolet 4L60E following Jimmy's tutorials and it works again! Fantastic video series and presentation. Never thought I'd attempt this procedure but he made it easy as well as ordering the parts I needed. Highly recommended, thanks Jimmy!

    I wanna say I have never worked on a transmission. I just replaced them but when I got a 95 suburban 4x4 and tranny went I searched everywhere and everyone said oh no that's a one year transmission. Nothing will interchange. Not knowing I believed them. Online says the same thing. 2000 for tranny I didn't know what to do. Thank God for transmission bench. I figured all I can do is try. It doesn't work anyways. Never bought one part. I tore apart 7 different transmission looking for best parts. I listen word for word took 4 weeks to complete not rushing for my first time. Installed it with complete doubt. That was 2 years ago and still works perfect

    Thanks for the videos, very thorough and clear. Regarding the separator plate and gaskets, I bought the Transgo kit. Their instructions and bulletin about which set to use have me confused and I spoke to their tech support about it. The gaskets that I removed at teardown were CA and VB. The gasket set bulletin states that the application choices are for years 1993-2000 and 2001 and up. My 4L60E has a case stamped 01 and a valve body stamped 00. The flip side of the gasket bulletin shows diagrams of the worm tracks of the two different valve bodies with the hard changes circled for comparison. My body has the porting for the earlier 3-2 valve and the check ball seat for the later casting. Transgo was unsure and suggested I order a kit from my GM dealer using my VIN. I did this and the kit included the same two gasket sets. Their bulletin indicates the 3-2 porting distinction but not the check ball seat. This would indicate that I use the C and V gasket set. My local transmission mechanic concurs. I hesitate here because of the fact that the gaskets I removed were the CA and VB. I'd put many hard miles on my transmission before the 3-4 clutch failure and don't know what to expect if I change to the other gasket set as recommended. Also, your video describes the year changes as '93-'99 and '99-up. So I'm further confused by this. What is your recommendation? Thank you, I look forward to your reply.

      HI Christopher. I'll try to help but I'm a little confused too. There are many aftermarket valve body/ separator kits that I am not familiar with. Which Transgo kit are you using? What are you try to accomplish? Here is a question that could clear things up very quickly: Did the original separator plate have two or three characters stamped into the separator plate? If there is a three character group, it is considered a 2001 and later assembly which definitely requires the "VB" and "CA" gaskets. IF there is a two character group, you should use the early single character gaskets. I understand your frustration. You working with a threshold year transmission. That's why even GM kits come with both gasket sets. The problem seems to be vague Transgo instructions.

      Transmission Bench
      I've given it some more thought... I would, based on what I know at this point, use the late two character gaskets. If they worked fine as original in your transmission AND with the "00" valve body, they will probably work with this aftermarket plate. Put the late gaskets onto the Transgo plate and make sure that no holes are blocked. You're not alone running into weird stuff like this. I hope I have helped. Jimmy

      Transmission Bench
      The original plate has three characters "IPC". The Transgo kit is #46-PLT-96. My GM dealer tells me that they show the same separator plate for either gasket set and the Transgo plate apparently works with either as well. My confusion arises from the mention of the porting change for the 2-3 valve and that my valve body has the casting and porting that would indicate using the older style gaskets- this is what my mechanic and the dealer parts person recommended installing but my inclination is to go with the CA and VB set since that is what I found at teardown. I did not buy the vehicle new but with only 30K miles so I suspect that what I found was factory installed and not a repair/rebuild, but I can't know for sure.
      Another question: my rebuild kit came with O-rings to replace those on the manifold pressure switch. Not easy to get them to seat but I got them in. You replace the switch in your video- would you advise me to do the same and discard the original?

    • @transmissionbench7842
      @transmissionbench7842  9 років тому

      Christopher
      You and I are on the same wavelength about the gaskets. I'd go with the late ones. I'm curious... what was the problem with this transmission to begin with? About the manifold pressure switch... If you only have 30,000 miles total on the vehicle, I would reuse the old switch. One last thought on the gaskets... even if you have to take the VB back down, it's not too much trouble.

    • @transmissionbench7842
      @transmissionbench7842  9 років тому

      Transmission Bench
      I looked up your "IPC" plate. It corresponds to a transmission tag which should read "1LHD".

    Great tutorial!!!! Thank´s so much! But there is one thing that puzzles me: When you install the 1-2 accumulator housing I´m facing the piston. According to the workshop manual I install the piston first, then the spring. So when installing I´m facing the spring (like on the opposite side of the sep. plate). Is there a secret to it?? (part2 lesson8 @20:20)
    Thank´s a lot!!!

    Transmission came from 2001 blazer 4x4 bought cheap because of transmission. Rebuilding it but both input shaft and separator plate seem to be 1993 to 1999.Separtor plate has a spot where 2nd gear ball bearing goes that is built up. Tag reads 1TAD and torque converter has tag that reads DCNF 2420. Seems to have been rebuilt before and one trust bearing and the 3 4 clutch release springs were missing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

    And also wanna say I have researched and studied the things that make sense and the things that don't about the 95 chevy tranny. I graduated in 94 from an auto tech school. Trannys were 100 bucks then to replace so nobody cared about how to rebuild them. Engines is where it was at. More power. We as the class were already informed on obd2 systems coming in 96 and what it consisted of. This part I do know. The only thing different between 1 and 2 is that 2 is universal coding and universal fuel injection. All codes mean the same and all fuel injection is multi injected to render same coding. That's it. Still use same sensors and so on. 95 chevy is a one year computer! Not vehicle. 95 has the most interchangeable parts of all fuel injected chevys. 87 to 99 and if your creative can go even farther. Obd 1 engine on obd2 transmission with pwm solenoid. Amy motor back to 87 or any Trans 95 till the 300 mm converter but with creativeness even it will work. We've done it.

    Okay guys, I have rebuilt a 4L60E using these videos. This is the third one that I have done and I have a problem which has me stumped. I added Sonnex pinless pistons, Monster sunshell, and a TransGo shift kit. Transmission will not shift from second to third. One, two and reverse work fine. It will not even attempt to go from 2nd to 3rd. I have checked the solenoid, valve orientation in the valve body, changed the wiring harness, checked the vss and still no changes. I unplugged the main wiring harness and it defaults to 2nd ( I thought that was supposed to put it in 3rd) 55mph and about 4500 rpm's. Any guidance here would be extremely appreciated. Thanks, John

    When you replaced the plastic 1-2 accumulator piston with the aluminum one. The aluminum piston had three legs but the old plastic one had none. I am looking for a replacement and you can buy with or without, does it matter if it has legs or not?

    Were there some 4l60e transmissions that didn't have a 3-4 accumulator piston? The one I'm working on doesn't have the large bore and center pin hole for a piston. It seems I remember only removing a spring when I took off the valve body separator plate and I can't find a 3-4 piston among the parts. This is a 1995 one I'm working on. Thanks for the informative videos, btw. They are very helpful.

    I just paid the $50.00 for the 4l60e rebuild videos.Very disappointed. The videos do not tell you what part or lesson contains what procedure, in other words there is no legend at the beginning of the videos. I have a 1993 4l60e in which certain things were not covered, or mentioned in videos, such as converter clutch valve, 1-2 accumulator valve. Also, no information on the piston lip seals instead of the molded pistons. I wish someone would make a video of a complete rebuild on on a 1993-1994 4l60e because there are differences between these years and the rest.
