She was abused, starved, beaten by her father, abused by Bela, forced to jump for hours on end on a broken leg, forced to continue to perform after falling over and over again on her neck, her life was horrific -- a fearful and abused life. Karolyis are bad ; She could not get any individual medal ; Had fractures on right leg ; Added to that family problems ; But look at her amazing and artistic gymnastic performance to the wrecking tune of Devils comes down to georgia ; Just a child 14 years old , She was jumping , dancing , vaulting , waving like an angel ; Nothing else will stand her performance ; artistic gymnastics to other levels ; The entire crowd was on toes and appreciating her ; I do not think any other gymnast had received so much support ; She played to the gallery and public and to the so called judges ;
This makes me so sad for this little girl. I was and am such a huge fan of hers. But to know what I know now about that man. I just want to hug that poor little girl.

She landed over her knees horribly.Any fatherly figure would’ve rushed and carry her to the nursing facility to get her checked. And that man just walks like nothing, and she looks concerned.
I'm so glad this sport is beginning to expose the horrible abuse nearly all pro gymnasts go through. There's still a long, long way to go but things are finally beginning to change and its LONG overdue
She's a tiny girl - her hands are probably too small to adequately grip the bar under that much force. And the grips probably make it harder to get her fingers around the bar.
She shows almost no natural reaction to the accident, which is a horrifying fall that almost broke her neck. I've never seen an athlete just ignore that bad a fall. She was so scared of her coaches her mind went immediately to that, she had no time to even think of herself or what had just happened.
And she had given such a spectacular routine before the dismount! Dominic was always so unique. Look at her parallel bar routine! She had an Olga Korbut uniqueness. I felt very uneasy, in her whole reaction, you could see the complex emotion on her face. But Marta always gave me the creeps more than Bella. There seemed to be something genuine in Bella. But what was done to all the young women was a travesty.
Genuine? Bela was always a fraud -- putting on his pathetic show in front of the cameras when everyone knew he was starving and abusing those girls behind the scenes. The parents knew -- they are guilty too, but girls were horribly injured, molested, and starved directly because of Bela's abuse!

They appeared lean with a little bit of muscle. Dr. Nassar was guilty and convicted for sexual abuse. The karolyi’s had nothing to do about it. And part of her reaction here was probably one of shock b/c this really could have been horrible for her had she not fallen the way she did.

It's always been about the coaches ego and who they are. Not all are this way but MOST have wrong motives! Girls came to me in 1988 saying they were bring touched during spotting. The parents new. I confronted the coach he turned beet red and denied it. I then took it to a higher up in gymnastics who proceeded to say to me " IF THAT GOT OUT...DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT WOULD DO TO THE SPORT OF GYMNASTICS"? IT TOOK 30 YEARS!
Bela and Marta were monsters. All the abuse and then turning a blind eye to a serial predator who was preying on their gymnasts. They deserve the worst.
My niece is a gymnast and I've learned that there's a certain way those gymnasts can land to prevent theirselves from getting hurt when there's a mistake while they're still in the air. I could tell that Dominique knew how to fall safely when she realized that there was an error.
I was a gymnast and a coach and there are proper ways to fall, but in an accident like this, you do not have any control. She was smart to bend her knees, but she did not fall safely because she couldn't. Her safety was petty much down to luck.
