Does anyone question now why Simone Biles stepped down? An injury in gymnastics can be life threatening. I had a roommate in the late 70s who fell from the uneven bars and fractured her spine. She was in a wheelchair the last time I saw her. She died when she was 51.
Darn that stress fracture! By this point she had been competing nonstop from team compulsories, team finals, all-around, and event finals. That leg was taking a beating throughout, but especially towards the end of that competition. Not to mention the Karolyi’s notoriety for enforcing extreme restrictive dieting on their gymnasts during major competitions.
I feel so bad when she falls... that look on her face. All I can imagine is what her coach said/did to her after that. He was so abusive and down right aweful to her...
I. Wynn Wynn I think Dominique said that Marta was squeezing her neck during that moment (I’m not 100% sure if it’s this routine she was talking about, but it kind of looks like it)
It happens so quick maybe a flash went off she hit her head and carried on stayed on the beam, not a flinch and stuck the landing. Must have been on adrenaline to not feel that. Could have been a career ending injury.
They blamed it on the flash but in her interview she had a stress fracture and was afraid of being injured and then this happened so sad her confessing the abuse she went through. Now I see a little girl who felt like she couldn’t say no all for a medal. And then after this Olympic medal, just at 14 she said she walked away from this sport for years. Wow
Even after they showed the notice do not use ya flash people still did it anyway can see it on her dismont they going off again, so rude her face as she sitting down shaking her head a bit she probably thinking those darn flash bulbs may have just cost me a medal on beam.
Yeh could have been the camera flashes going off quite a bit at that moment she did that pass. Why the announcer said to please refrain from using ya camera flash.
Domonique is probably the most gifted and talented gymnast in our lifetime that we will ever, see her parents failed her the coaches failed her we as a society failed her, they took away every last gift and talent that she was born with , she lost out on the most important years of her career as a gymnast,. All because of , money, greed, selfishness and most importantly her childhood , I am sickened by thought of what should have been, but she has endured, and persevered, through out , she grew into a strong talented young woman that we all knew that she was, domoniqe is the example of what her sport is and will always be,. Which ever direction you decide to go know that there are many people that love you and most importantly respect you as an acomplished athelet ,
She resembled Nadia a lot, that same serious look... she was really really talented.. too bad she didn't get an individual medal in Atlanta, probably due to injuries and emotional instability too (abusive dad and coaches since childhood, insane olympic pressure and stuff)
This was when I really truly appreciated just how much danger and risk that these athletes face. Before this, I thought that Gymnastics was just glorified dancing in skimpy, skin tight leotards. After this, it became my favourite Olympic sports.
A lot of people think that. My (male) principal in elementary school was a former gymnast and held classes at lunch for anyone who wanted lessons. The boys in the class mocked the girls mercilessly for doing gymnastics and the principal eventually had to come to our class and inform the boys that gymnastics was the most dangerous sport in the world.
@@SchlichteToven I know. Without the right stretching and training they could snap their tendons, they could fall from equipment, strain mussels,... and so many other things. It is truly a dangerous sport.
@@darrenbent7601 Snapping your neck like Elena Mukhina or Julissa Gomez is the one that really freaks me out! They changed the springboard and later the vault because of what happened to Gomez.
She's so stellar, even with that crazy fall-- even raises her hand in a pose while clutching the beam with her other hand. Boss.
Hitting your head and carrying on like that. She is hardcore!
falling on your head on beam is not fun at all
it's amazing she stuck with it and never gave up
she's amazing
She is amazing. You know that hurt like hell, and she did not even flinch.
What a warrior!! The best.

That happened to a Russian gymnast. Stfu lying bytch
She kicked ass with that save...
I don't see any medical staff checking on her. That seems so strange ... I mean, she hit her head!
Score 9.125 geeze it should be higher for guts. She never actually fell off the beam and she stuck that landing cold.
there's nothing this artistic in the olympics anymore
i just watch this now and so amaze on how brave she is and i really feel her passion in gymnastics. Salute ❣️
And nobody even checked her out to make sure she was ok. She could've broken her neck or skull. What jerks. She mustve felt so alone.

@I. Wynn Wynn ikr. You cant tell me Martha never smacked a child.

That was a great first pass! Back handspring, layout, layout, head to butt flip! Nailed it!
Lo que me gustó de su rutina es que sacó fuerzas y no se dio por vencida.Aun así,me parece extraordinaria.
i like her mount motion
Wow!!! She's so strong!
OMG, she fell out on her head, that must be so hurtful! Was she ok after the balance beam?
TheKenthope She was fine. The adrenaline probably took over. She went to floor finals and finished a very respectable fourth.
Poor Dominique 😥

Ay pobrecita, pero el resto lo hizo perfecto.
That fall!
Poor girl had a stress fracture.
She is brave, to me she is the best on the beam excellent!🥰

Wow
Ребенок находится в прекрасной спортивной форме.
Ugghh the way Marta gripped her neck like that.
Those camera flashes...

The audience goes ohhhhh it like uh hello ya darn flash bulbs cause her fall. She lucky she did not really hurt.
I cringed watching her head hit the beam! Poor kid!
She looks like Daniela silivas and Nadia Comaneci
She resembled Nadia a lot, that same serious look... she was really really talented.. too bad she didn't get an individual medal in Atlanta, probably due to injuries and emotional instability too (abusive dad and coaches since childhood, insane olympic pressure and stuff)
The kids were tougher then
Amazing still did the routine and stuck the landing. But people still not cooperation in not using the flash bulbs.martha grabbeded her neck.
Tough

She looks sickly thin
Well that’s sad, her coaches shamed her for being fat and you’re saying how she’s ‘sickly’ thin. Sigh, you can never win.
She was pure fit
What are you saying? She looks strong and muscular
