Lagos is very fast paced. Shooting in Lagos, not the whole of Nigeria, can be hectic. Shooting/vlogging can also be easy if you know how to read the room, that is, if you shoot in the proper places at the right time. So, it mainly depends on the areas you are at. If you're in an area where there are a lot of "area boys"/hoodlums, of course, they are going to want to get a tip from you. If it is an area where a lot of shady deals take place, they wont want you to shoot at all because they wont want their faces to be put out there. People mostly experience problems shooting on the mainland. It's easier on the Island because no one is really bothered about what you're doing and most people there are the corporate/working class. Also, seeing white foreigners trying to shoot strikes nerves of the people because they've been exploited in the past. Back in the days, they'll take shots of the people to run anti-african propagandas or narrate false stories about the people without proper research. So nowadays, the people have to know what the shoot is about before they allow white foreigners shoot in their environment. People like you guys would have it easier because you're black and the people wouldn't even be able to tell that you're not Nigerians unless you speak. Even when they notice you have a different accent, they'll think you're Nigerians/africans that just returned from overseas. They'll just probably ask you to tip them because they'll assume you have money. The tip wouldn't even be up to $10. And of course, everyone can shoot / record without any disturbance from anybody at public events like football games, concerts, carnivals, parties etc Generally, Lagosians are very friendly, welcoming, funny and lively people.
Exactly 💯, was about to say same. Also shooting music videos in some parts of Lagos is a huge battle. You can watch interviews of Nigeria's acclaimed music video driector, Clarence Peters and his experience shooting music videos in Lagos. It's the area boys(Street gangs) that make shooting videos difficult, so you have to engage the police for protection. Of you're doing any shoot outside of Lagos, it's smooth sail.
It’s better to film in other states/cities than Lagos. Its like being white and trying to shoot in the Bronx if you get my drift. There’re hustlers in these parts of Lagos. The more affluent part of Lagos is relaxed and wouldn’t care. I don’t know why the love going to Lagos, maybe because of the hype, Abuja is way better.
the thing is you don't have to tip anyone if you're just vlogging your day to day activities as long as it just you but where the tipping comes in sometimes is maybe if you're going to shoot like a documentary type of stuff in some areas in which you might not even have to tip anyone to shoot in some part of the city so basically what am tryna say is you don't really have to be worried about tipping people before you vlog about how your day went there are lots of foreigner's living in lagos that vlog on a daily without any issue ......
I'd just say Nigeria is very fast paced. People shooting would always want to involve others but those other people are busy trying to make ends meet. So it's like "get out of my face, I'm trying to make a living"
$11 is actually expensive, even for two people. Lagos is an expensive city. One of the most expensive cities in Africa. I'm in Uyo and could survive on $10 a week with 3 full meals everyday.

“Tipping” is basically like checking in. Like how a rapper would have to check in if he from out of town to shoot a video. You gotta pay a little something for filming.
Suya is Elite and you only get it at night.. Lagosians are more welcoming to the camera now cos there are many Vloggers out there.. The Area boys or Gangs only want tips, once u tip them they'll even help you film and be your friend😂😂 lagos is fun.
I think the whole issue of not allowing vloging in certain places/countries is for security purposes and some just simply want privacy. I can understand that but if it were not for youtubers then how would we know of these beautiful places in the first place?
@@TheDemouchetsREACT that’s because Lagos is more quintessentially Nigeria. However, I don’t think I could live in Lagos. It seems too fast for me. Coming from the US, Abuja is more calm and less traffic for me.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT Abuja to me has everything you’re looking to find in Lagos minus the beach and loudness/chaos. It’s not much of a melting pot as Lagos, but if you do your research well, you’ll get to see all three popular Nigerian culture there. Bonus point there’s 60% less people.
Nigerians on this thread it isn’t about the city..it’s about the food..why do we always have to bring competition into everything.isn’t Abuja and Lagos still Nigeria..Every city all over the world is peculiar and has what they are loved for
What I heard from people is that, when the foreigners take videos and pictures, they put our faces on things like magazines and things like that to make money out of our image.
They will do that to unfamiliar faces in some areas until you are with at least 1 person they all see around and know... Nigerians are welcoming once they feel you

I think camera shy is actually a west African cultural thing not just Nigeria, they don't seem to like people taken picture of them. The only way to get around that is by giving them little cash. In a soccer/football game it is different, nobody is bothered by you taking pictures in a stadium, not seen as personal as such l guess. That part of lagos is probably the worse place in Nigeria, Abuja, portharcout enugu, calabar etc have better and much civilised night life than this in my opinion.. Thank you.
About your youtuber friend, that said Nigerian are not welcoming to camera....she must check herself. Before a Nigerian can allow you to film them on video, you have to be nice, playful and kind. Most people doesnt want camera in their face because most foreigners used the video to depict something bad. Most Nigerians doesn't trust foreigners with camera, except when they are comfortable. Nigerians don't just trust foreigners.

I’d say you can film anywhere in Nigeria but in Lagos island particularly you gats to just tip the area boys. Cost firstly you’re white(no offense) but to them you’re making money of us so why can’t you just tip us and win win for everyone. I’m not saying it’s the best they can do but they’re other parts of Lagos too people won’t mind let’s say in ajah(Lagos too) but generally even with area boys it’s not life threatening worse case scenario they will ask u to leave. They won’t harm a foreigner never. It’s rarely happens.
What is your favorite Nigerian late night street food?
Suya is my favourite Nigerian late night street food
It's has to be suya for many, but I rarely take it. If I'm eating out at night, noodles with egg is my go to.
Suya💃
Suya wayyyy
Suya of course. We even joke that darkness is one of its major ingredients. Eating suya in the daytime doesn't hit like eating it late at night.
