This was more about pronunciation than accents, actually. Many people confuse pronunciation for accent. It's very important to pronounce words correctly. You can pronounce words correctly and still retain your accent. Accent encompasses a whole lot more than how words are pronounced. For example, Chimamanda Adichie pronounces her words correctly, but you can still tell she's Nigerian. There are Asians who pronounce their words correctly in English, and you can still tell they have their accents. I believe that people should put in effort to pronounce words correctly (it's not phoneh), they won't lose their accents. Focus on correct pronunciation rather than on accent.
No, accent is exactly the way a particular group of people pronounce a language. Aside from countries, accents may differ depending on region, social class, schooling, gender, etc. Some Nigerian accents (like that of Chinamanda Adichie) are closer to more standard English dialects than others, but they’re not better, or more correct.
@felipevasconcelos6736 100%. Yes, when I come across any English word that I am not familiar with, I try pronouncing it using my Igbo accent. I can still remember when I was still learning how to read I pronounced the Republic of "China" just the way it sounds in my language 😂

Trevor Noah has explained it best when he once said in his podcast "Nigerians don't care about how they pronounce English, they pronounce with their energy"😂😂😂 that's why I love them
Trevor Noah has also said funny things about his fellow SA accent. People just are into Nigerians too much! When Trevor Noah hears Pidgin, he thinks that’s Nigerian English. I’ve heard him speak supposedly with a Nigerian accent several times. I wish I could tell him to stop. It sounds retarded. I love Trevor but He always does the pidgin. Not even pidgin, but some broken English with a scary accent. I heard Chimamanda N Adichie once tell him very nicely “Nigerians don’t speak like that”. And she was right. Lots of people do that. The moment they see a Nigerian, they speak some weird Pidgin English and call it a Nigerian accent! Horrible!
@@zeeone4492 Trevor Noah hails from a country where 90% do not speak English. The last lines of their National Anthem …in “South Africa my Land”, they actually say in “South Africa my Friend.”……😂. He’s used to the way the Africans speak there. People like what they’re used to. Someone needs to tell him that Pidgin English is not Nigerian Accent. Two totally different things!
That's not true, Trevor Noah said he love the Nigerian accent and also Nigeria pidgin English is not Nigeria English Meanwhile when you meet 20 Nigerians you are likely to hear 15 accent that's just the truth I and my siblings don't have same accent. Are you sure it's Switerland🤷🏻🤦
Thank you for sharing the amazing diversity of Afrika! There are still some people out here thinking all Afrikan people are the same, speak the same language, etc. This was great and had me laughing 😂 LOVE IT! ❤
Horrible!
I think Nigerians have tend to use their pronunciation as a way of making money since they know it's funny
That is not true at any level
@@zeeone4492 Trevor Noah hails from a country where 90% do not speak English. The last lines of their National Anthem …in “South Africa my Land”, they actually say in “South Africa my Friend.”……😂. He’s used to the way the Africans speak there. People like what they’re used to. Someone needs to tell him that Pidgin English is not Nigerian Accent. Two totally different things!
That's not true, Trevor Noah said he love the Nigerian accent and also Nigeria pidgin English is not Nigeria English
Meanwhile when you meet 20 Nigerians you are likely to hear 15 accent that's just the truth I and my siblings don't have same accent.
So the lady forming the Nigeria accent doesn't have same accent as mine
... Love to Nigeria, love to Africa.

Lucky you. In Nigeria, we have other things to bother about, other than pronunciation 😂😂😂
As a Kenyan, I support 100% the Nigerian accent. It should be protected by UNESCO. This is the real pride of Africa!
Uko na jokes sana! Lol!

Just stumbled upon this channel and I am already loving my Nigerian sistuuurr!! I enjoyed this content!!! ❤❤
The fact that I am a Nigerian makes me to laugh at our accent. We speak raw, no phonetics. I went to a conference where a Librarian man gave a lecture. From the beginning to the end of the lecture, I understood NOTHING because he was too fast. It is easy to understand a Nigerian even with their accent because they don't talk very fast. And they pronounce every word like digits
"They pronounce every word like digit" got me 😂😂
You should be cognizant of the fact that not all Nigerians talks like her. In fact, she doesn't sounds like a typical Nigerian to me.
I'm Liberian and let me say that the way she said it is the same way we pronounce ours because both U and O gives the same sound except when you're speaking the kolowa then it's a little different 😂😂😂😂😂
@@SegunMichael-t5qshe actually sounds like a typical Nigerian😂
😂😂😂😂😂
The Ghana girl is soo educated, iam soo proud of you, she always mentioned it first
