Superb job on the Corsair. Liked the whisky ramble very much. I had a bottle from the Isles as a gift and it was a very much acquired taste. Almost medicinal at time. A bit of a challenge for my pallet but none the less interesting
My goodness, that is a stunning paint job on the corsair. I think I'll pick up the kit and give it a go. Thanks for the review and showing the completed model. Very inspiring.
This is by far the best corsair kit I have ever seen, and you have pushed it beyond any other kit I have seen. It's truly remarkable the work that you have done to this corsair. I love the paint job, the figure, the weathering, the diorama etc. You pushed the realistic look and succeeded. I am even more enclined to make this purchase. My father passed away this year and this was his favorite plane. I wanted to buy one because we used to build model planes together when I was a child and this is an awesome way to remember that piece of my childhood and my father. If you have any pointers or tips that would be extremely appreciated! This is truly amazing. I'm not a professional or expert at models I'd say I'm an experienced intermediate level, I try and further my knowledge on paint techniques and also brands of paint, glue etc. But this is an amazing kit and diorama you done. Really blew my mind, excellent work man ! :)
Paul Duplessie Well, thank you very much for those (too) kind words, Paul. If this is the kit you intend to buy, as far as pointers go, all I can say with any certainty is... 'have fun!'. This kit is so well engineered, I doubt it will through any curve balls at you. Experienced intermediate is probably the best place to be in this hobby. There's still lots to learn and you can achieve the end results that you are, for the most, happy with. Let there always be room for improvement and developing these skills is - for me - where most of the fun comes from. I never want to reach my ideal place in the hobby. As I get close to it, I want it to be like a leaf in the wind. You go to pick it up and it's blown further down the path!
definitely something to keep in mind, thanks so much! I cant wait to buy this kit, id love to have this on display along with the rest of my dads things
Beautiful Bent Wing Bird.....love what you've done with the Corsair. Top notch paint job. Wonderful work also on the pilot....he looks very authentic. Bill.
***** Cheers, Bill! Confession - I took about as long on his face as I did for the engine, I think. The result is purely by accident and any similarities to an actual human being are purely coincidental. ;)
Gary, Awesome job! Wish I could get my hands on an airbrush and compressor so I can start modeling again. I use to use a paint brush ,but after seeing what a beautiful job airbrushing does I want to learn how to use one. Great job again. Love the Scottish drink history.
Lynn Dippel Well, take some solace in knowing that anyone who says they're not learning anymore usually learns the biggest lesson of all - that we're always learning. Best place to be. More fun that way!
Sam Frizzell Cheers Sam. Pegg is a bit of a hero of mine. The wife bought me the tee. It's from Qwertee and their designs are only available for 48 hours at a time!
You can see in a few photos that there is a beautiful finish on her. To bad the "camera" had a hard time picking it all up. Just imagine how truly magnificent it is in person. Just wish I didnt live 3000 miles away so i could see it.
John Alexander Haha, thanks John! The camera I'm using is so complicated - no point and shoot settings - that it's almost a refresher course in photography. I'll get there.... hopefully! :)
Very nice job on the Corsair bud. I really like the "scrubbed look" since it gives the illusion of being cleaned in a very salty environment especially in the South Pacific. I used to be a Scotch drinker until it got the best of me about 4 years ago so all I partake in now are good brews. Cheers my friend and keep up the awesome work!
Willy Vette Thanks, Willy. That's exactly the look I was going for. Lots of harsh scouring from the elements. I used to detest the taste and smell of the stuff and then all of a sudden...!
MakingModelsAgain I know! My easel has been standing neglected for what seems like years now... somehow there's always something else happening! By the way, I applaud you for your taste in Scotch!
Hi Gary,Awesome job on her! Like what you have done with the ageing of the paintwork.I was wondering where you got too! I know now, drinking whiskey under the stairs lol ;) I have bought the Eduard 1.32 BF109-E1 It's my next build after the Sea Vixen, which is nearly wrapped up.
Warren Blanch Unfortunately, we live in a bungalow, so I have to do my drinking in the cupboard! Hehehehe.... I did their 1/32 E4 and although I replaced just about everything with aftermarket (never again!) the fit on the main parts was excellent, so you should have a ton of fun with that one.
MakingModelsAgain my old man used to drink Glenfiddick. Bet that stuff your wife bought you wasn't a cheap tiple! That souds like news that the Eduard goes together well.I have also started using the Tamiya paints. Very impressed with them :)
My my...... this was worth the wait !!! I was wondering what happened to you but....now I see what you have been up to ! the paint work is phenomenal ! Just enough weathering... love the fading effect ! perfection as always..... and thanks for the little snippet of history! always nice to hear.
Norm Lajoie Thanks, Norm. The funny thing is, with videos, how a week turns into two, then a month and so on. It's oddly easy to get out of the swing of things. In that respect, my videos are very much like public transport.... nothing for ages, then two come at once! (new vid in the next few days)
Very nice Gary, liking the diorama and the paint work, still have to buy a Tamiya Corsair, everyone's going mad for them! Hope you win (that's if you choose to enter) that Pacific trophy. I'm in a show on Sunday at Cosford (Shropshire Model Show) so that would be fun but sadly in no competition Cheers Michael
Nice to see you back, finally! And the work is beautiful, of course. I also like that you touched on something I've always thought about preshading. It produces the exact opposite of what is often the actual physical reality.
will pattison Exactly. I've been studying a lot of pics of aircraft and you can barely even see the panel lines, let alone any darkening around them. Occasionally you do and it has to be said, some kits do benefit from it, but for the most, no.
Gary, I wondered where you been. Being of Scottish decent, I appreciate the history lesson{one I can use} The Corsair looks FANTASTIC! Really like the sun-baked, sandblasted look, perfect for land base Pacific A/C. Beautiful Diorama, Excellent work. If you enter the Corsair- GOOD LUCK! - Bob
bob dyer Thanks Bob. That's exactly the look I was going for and from the reference photos I could find, including that of White 883, that's what they looked like - scrubbed by the elements. Must ry moving around those regions more as I've been sampling the wares of the islands for some time. Maybe try Speyside next. :)
Gorgeous! And, your accident with the dark semi-gloss paint worked out a treat to create the stressed panel look. Great diorama, the Palm Tree would have been nice and would give the plane and the Pilot some shade in those hot environs. MMMMM that Whiskey sounds really good....the best that I drink over here is "Gentleman Jack" one of the Jack Daniels family drinks. Good luck at the show with your entries! Cheers, Martin : )
International British Modeler You know what, it's been ages since I've tried some bourbon. Although the temptation to put a bottle of Jack on the list is strong, the lure from the home regions may be the stronger... Happy accidents rock! The other (more frequent) ones don't! :)
She is a stunner. The Scots nationals sounds like it'll be a great show, a little far for me I'm afraid but it is the Cosford show this weekend :) back to the corsair. Once again, stunning. and you must have the patience of a saint to have put up with the planking. I hope one day (perhaps by 2057) I may be able to produce aircraft weathered as well. I would like to confer my congratulations on your competently completed considerably colossal corsair, capital.
UKscalemodeller What hanger is the show in? I would love to have gone, but can't, so I won't. :/ Also, always avoid alliteration as any academic attests.
It fills all four of the display hangars. There is no way you can do it all 'properly' in just 6 hours. I might actually try going to Telford on the 8th this year though.
i must give one more compliment : since i'm no pro ,i allow myself to say i looked at Chris Wachoup's tamiya F4U-1A, and your both creations are WOWWW ! and if ihad to judge which is first place - i couldn't have made my mind...
Hi Gary: Just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your video posts. Instructive AND entertaining. You have a wonderful sense of humor. As regards single malts: I keep a bottle of the Balvenie nearby at all times...strictly for medicinal purposes. On a recent golf trip to the southwest of Ireland, I discovered the Red Breast "pot" whiskey. Good luck at the show in Perth. Slainte!
Roger Hull You know what - and I feel a tad ashamed - but I have yet to try a good Irish Whisky. I may make that effort for the next bottle, although I hear the Japanese are excelling in this field!
Du-awwwww! Was waiting to see the P-40! ;) Corsair was an absolute pleasure to look at, although - as usual - as a beginner I always get a wee bit depressed looking at models finished to this quality as it seems like I am at the bottom of a mountain looking up! Well done and good luck in Perth.
Stephen Beat The P-40 vid is in the wings - pardon the pun. Meh, remember, we were all beginners once and sometimes when I look at the mess on my mat, I think we sometimes never leave that state. That's a good thing as it drives and dares you to do better next time. Which I rarely succeed at either! ;)
Great model. Wish had the painting skills you have. However i am guilty of the same combination as you - Uisge Beatha and modelling and it does not mix - i spilt my liquid poly cement last night after a few too many and it disolved everything it touched - fortunately not the model i was building! On another whsky night i glued the hull of my Churchill tank prematurely before feeding the tracks--So no more whisky for me on modelling nights.
About time I started to catch up on your videos.. luckily you haven't posted an over amount of them since the last one I watched! Lovely 'little' Corsair there, excellent build as always from you.. Gradually getting back in the mood for posting videos again, so may make a come back at some point in the not too distant future.. :)
amazingly beutiful ......... guess a strong whiskey as you sipp there at the start is a must if one wants to do such wonders with paint :) :) :) never thought there are so many shades of blue !!! a pleasure to look at ! very convincing & real life looks to it
Just love your talk about the whiskeys. Can one get the one you were drinking here in the States? I have had really good Low Land and Speysides. Can you spell out the one you were drinking? Oh and by the way, outstanding build of the Corsair. I like your "accidental" way of producing stressed skin look. Thank you for sharing
Frederick J. Meccia Sure, the one I was drinking was the Talisker Storm. I had the Balmoral once, so that was my Speyside. It was delicious too! I'll be using that stressed skin method again, methinks! :)
Hi, nice Corsair model. I really like the colours. What paint did you use for the 2 blues and I think the underside is white? As a i have one to build myself. Thanks.
MRP - glossy sea blue Mr colour - intermediate blue Tamiya - signal white Hope that helps, I commission built one of these recently and these colours were absolutely spot on.
Interesting choice of Whisky ! I always think a good one should first taste like a Grow Bag with the aftertaste of Iodine. Rather than a lot of the Pish they call Whiskys that are sold in Supermarkets. The Corsair ! Very very well done my friend, she looks stunning. As for the show put her into competition, I feel a disturbance in the Force that means she may very well win !
Central Industrial Art Modelling Thanks Andy. A grow bag, eh? You have a lot of experience in that regard...? You're beginning to sound that that Jilly Goolden "Pencil shavings with a hint of radiator water and an underlying dog fart aroma mixed with a room full of New Zealand rugby players mid-summer after a strenuous second half!"
Try the Finlaggan, taste is somewhere between Tallisker and Lagavullin. Nice peaty taste, powerfull and still smooth. And, at €25,- at my local liquour store, more affordable than the others. BTW, it's also an Islay :)
I'm a Glenfidich guy myself, a quite smoothe and relativley cheap whisky (even though it costs like 40£ in Sweden). The famous grouse, clan mcgreggor, Tullamore Dew and so on just tastes artificial to me. Now, back to the model. Other than the engine, are there any more parts you can display opened out of the box? I love 1/32 myself, but i really only buy it if you A. can show a lot of hatches opened or B. if you can make it swedish. Also, does it have any magnets like the Mustang or Mosquito? P.S i'm glad to hear that there are at least one more other than me that don't fancy preshades. If i do it, then i do it on only some places and only on grey planes. What usually works the best for me is to prime it in black and then work from that and give it more or less shading from the start.
Alas, the power house is the only additional thing to show. I wouldn't have thought it too difficult for Tamiya to show gun bays, but I'm sure there must be resin sets available now - if you're happy slicing and dicing... I now do virtually all my weathering post. There is so much more control over its application that way.
Great looking Corsair! Also if you like Japanese models highly recommend the Suntory Hibiki 17 year old if you can get it. Beautiful scotch...hope you sorted out your photos if you need some processing help which would make your paintwork pop out let me know. Enjoying your vids thanks. Darren from Cairns
Hello. And happy New Year! 😋 I must find some of that Talisker. The Corsair was fine too. Even though it's not my scale (i.e. 1:48th). I liked the Whirlwind, by the way. Unfortunately Trumpeter makes beautiful and ever slightly (here and there) inaccurate models 😑 that usually fit together perfectly.
oh yes, this corsair looks lovely. i agree, the model on display has to be positioned that way to make all its great details visible. i´m not really into whisky, i can not take booze very good :) i´m more the beer and vine person. at least i learned something new about the scottish way of doing things!
'Tis fair braw, Sir. Oh, and I am happy to see your quality over quantity approach any time! Now if only I could master one or the other I would be happy. Another result well worth the wait.
bob ahnert Thanks, Bob. I'm going to have a go at trying it id direct overhead sunlight. However, I live in Scotland, so that'll be one day a year then....
MakingModelsAgain Well my friend pack them up and send them to me where I live here in sunny South Carolina and I will be more than happy to do a photo shoot for you!! I wish I still had my old cell phone that had some great shots on it- but alas I lost it one day retrieving a truck that blew it's engine coming back to our shop.
Love your videos, great choice of subject...whiskey from the islands are sublime, and your models are first class. Great work, a few more videos would be good but if its choice of savouring a fine whiskey or making a video...erm?
Caius Martius Thanks, Caius! yeah, I kinda got out of the swing of things. A week becomes two, then a month and so on. Another video is rendering as I type - should be posted thur/fri! :)
binbagflyer I have to try the other regions as I've been hung-up on the islands for some time. I did try the Balmoral when we were up there one time and it was lovely.
Thanks for the advice on the whisky. I have a whisky shop only 15 minutes from where I live I might be tempted to taste before I buy with a couple of island malts.
Gary, The Corsair looks awesome! The weathered sun-baked, sandblasted paint look and brilliant diorama is absolutely sublime work!!! Did you enter it in the Perth competition?
+Mancave “Thomo” Creations I didn't. I was tempted, and oddly enough, it was Tamiya Corsair that took that trophy and without sounding egotistical, I might have stood a chance and I entered it, but once again, there was a lot of controversy over the decisions, so I'm glad I stayed clear of it.
Shaun: We take Pete's car, we drive over to Mum's, we go in, take care of Philip - "I'm so sorry, Philip" - then we grab Mum, we go over to Liz's place, hole up, have a cup of tea and wait for this whole thing to blow over.
Hello.. don't even know and I apologize, your first name. the Corsair is gorgeous and I say if your panel line technique returns the results you're looking for.. go for it. since this is a bit of a general 'shoot the breeze' conversational video, a la whiskey tasting, etc. I wanted to ask you... it seems most of your models, since returning to model building, have been 1/32 scale, did you have any trepidation towards building in the larger scale? I'm in the same boat as you and thinking to myself constantly... the bigger the model, the bigger the mistakes will appear and perhaps I should do a few 1/48's first. But then again if you're a lover of WW I and WNW's offerings, you don't really have a choice and must jump in and warm up to the larger size. ~Jim
+Séamus MacGinnus Hi Séamus. If anything, I would say I have settled more on 1/48 than anything else, occasionally delving into the scales either side. That being said, I am about to start the 1/32 Mossie and have a 1/32 Hien as well to get cracking on. I'm balancing those out with a 1/48 PR Spit I'm just putting the finishing touches to and the GWH 1/48 MiG-29 that I'll be starting in the very near future. I prefer the compromise between finished size and detail level offered by 1/48, but in truth, I haven't settled on a scale I will adhere to. Would like to try a WNW some day though.
Man you can woffle😪! I would bet you are a top guy to have as mate but boy 13min 18sec and only a couple shots of the plane. Even if you had rolled pics of the plane while you were expressing you thoughs would have helped. The problem is that you turn out some real nice pieces! Please increase pics and relevant chat in future posts....PLEASE! Sorry, didn't want to be rude and am still subscribed.... still love the models you put out😆
TheHj04 Here's the weird thing - I actually know that, so why I said Lag-u-val-in, is anyone's guess! There's actually a video on YT with Brian Cox performing that pronunciation - that's where I learned it from, so why I said it like that may have been the Talisker getting revenge.... !
Superb job on the Corsair. Liked the whisky ramble very much. I had a bottle from the Isles as a gift and it was a very much acquired taste. Almost medicinal at time. A bit of a challenge for my pallet but none the less interesting
Armour Empire I'm glad I tried it. I think if you can stomach the Isles, you can pretty much handle with ease, anything else the country has to offer.
Excellent, the impression and richness of the color is superb. The model looks pretty good too.
lunhil12 Haha, brilliant! (So was the whisky!)
My favourite poison is Highland Park Orkney. I had a 25-year-old once. (but not for long). Beautiful work and great to hear from you!
Guido Hopp Ah yes, the Orkney. Lovely tipple, lovely tipple.
My goodness, that is a stunning paint job on the corsair. I think I'll pick up the kit and give it a go. Thanks for the review and showing the completed model. Very inspiring.

Superb, Gary. The detail with the individual panels is astounding.
Nathan Nash Thanks, Nathan. My eyes were 'Clarenced' by the time I was done!
So that is why it's not on your site yet. Fantastic stressed look on those panels! The pilot is looking the business also. Cheers !!!
leighton pisani I managed to get some pics on their now thanks to photoshop extending out the background!

Awesome job on the Corsair, absolutely top hole weathering. That scotch sounds and looks interesting. Great video.

ModArt633 I would have loved to get to the Cosford show, if only to meet everyone who said they were going!
MakingModelsAgain I met a few people down there. You would have enjoyed it down here. I got a 1/48 D3A1 'Val' for £5! That will be in my next video

Gradually getting back in the mood for posting videos again, so may make a come back at some point in the not too distant future.. :)
amazingly beutiful ......... guess a strong whiskey as you sipp there at the start is a must if one wants to do such wonders with paint :) :) :) never thought there are so many shades of blue !!! a pleasure to look at ! very convincing & real life looks to it
Beautiful work Gary really top draw if my 1:48 corsair comes out a tenth as good as that I'll be well happy.
Nigel Wells Cheers Nigel. Well, 1/32 does give a bigger palette to work with, so it's easier. Sort of... ;)
+MakingModelsAgain beautyful model very nice and good whisky review
WOW, such beautiful work, can't wait to see more!
GetYourModelOn Cheers GYMO! A new video is rendering as I type - ETA thu/fri. :)
can you show us DO-17z2:-)
Just love your talk about the whiskeys. Can one get the one you were drinking here in the States? I have had really good Low Land and Speysides.
Can you spell out the one you were drinking?
Oh and by the way, outstanding build of the Corsair. I like your "accidental" way of producing stressed skin look.
Thank you for sharing
Frederick J. Meccia Sure, the one I was drinking was the Talisker Storm. I had the Balmoral once, so that was my Speyside. It was delicious too!
I'll be using that stressed skin method again, methinks! :)
I'll be heading to our illustrious liquor store to see if I can get "Talisker Storm"
Thank You
Just remember, if the Speysides are like a P-26, then the Talisker is like a P-47! ;)
Outstanding analogy!!
Can't wait to try it!!
Beautiful job mate
Scotch and Fly? Brilliant stuff as always. More please!
Stephen Gardner Nice one! :) New vid brewing as I type. :)
Hi, nice Corsair model. I really like the colours. What paint did you use for the 2 blues and I think the underside is white? As a i have one to build myself. Thanks.
MRP - glossy sea blue
Mr colour - intermediate blue
Tamiya - signal white
Hope that helps, I commission built one of these recently and these colours were absolutely spot on.
You should try the Lagavulin 12.
+Douglas Norton I would love to... My wallet wouldn't. ;)
Outstanding work! It truly looks like a war-wary fighter ready for another mission. Have you ever seen the TV show Baba Black Sheep?
Great looking Corsair! Also if you like Japanese models highly recommend the Suntory Hibiki 17 year old if you can get it. Beautiful scotch...hope you sorted out your photos if you need some processing help which would make your paintwork pop out let me know. Enjoying your vids thanks.
Darren from Cairns
Thanks, Darren. I did get the pics I wanted eventually - it was all about the angle and the light. :)
Glad you're back to uploading your videos.
Jamie Mckechnie Me too! :)
oh yes, this corsair looks lovely. i agree, the model on display has to be positioned that way to make all its great details visible. i´m not really into whisky, i can not take booze very good :) i´m more the beer and vine person. at least i learned something new about the scottish way of doing things!
Hamilkar Barkas Cheers. Michael! Well, I'm also a beer and wine person and the only spirit I like is whiskey. And gin. And brandy. And........... ;)
'Tis fair braw, Sir.
Oh, and I am happy to see your quality over quantity approach any time! Now if only I could master one or the other I would be happy.
Another result well worth the wait.
jifjaf69 You flatter me with your flattering flattery.
Nice build. I have the moto tug kit 1/48. Would like the tam 1/32 one day ! Odd film but cool
It's a beautifully engineered kit.
nice build, outstanding paint job!! try photographing in natural light it will do your models the justice they deserve!
bob ahnert Thanks, Bob.
MakingModelsAgain Go to my facebook page and you can see some of my work that is on display at the Oconee County Veteran's museum.
Definitely worth the wait - epic work!
dave41184 Cheers, Dave!
Is Scotch a requirement for producing a good model?
No, just for modelling in general.
Man Love the Corsair and your T-Shirt that's Badass !!!
Troy Meyer Ah yes, the Three Colours Cornetto Trilogy. Pegg/Wright = Genius.
Always enjoyed your vid gary
Damian Mullan Cheers, Damian. Another one's imminent.
Great work, looks so good.
temnymnich Cheers, mate! :)
Wonderful model, just a pity about the tipple. I am a big speyside fan and currently have glenfarclas and tamdhu on the go.
binbagflyer I have to try the other regions as I've been hung-up on the islands for some time. I did try the Balmoral when we were up there one time and it was lovely.
Thanks for the advice on the whisky. I have a whisky shop only 15 minutes from where I live I might be tempted to taste before I buy with a couple of island malts.
you need to try the Irish whiskey Bushmills it's a rich whiskey depending on which one you get
Gary, The Corsair looks awesome!
Stunningly beautiful bird kiddo! 👍👌👏
Danke! :)
Shaun: We take Pete's car, we drive over to Mum's, we go in, take care of Philip - "I'm so sorry, Philip" - then we grab Mum, we go over to Liz's place, hole up, have a cup of tea and wait for this whole thing to blow over.
Edward Troth Better down the Winchester! Btw, you've got red on you!
Haha, shaun of the dead is a great film.
Edward Troth You could say it's a slice of fried gold! ;)
Fantastic job on the Corsair....But how dare you stay away for so long.
Laszlo Gyorik My sincerest apologies. Hehehe ;) There's a new video rendering as I type - ETA thur/fri!
Wee tip for photographing (just saying as fellow Nikonian) : go wide, take a step back, use in camera trim.
Magick DBA Cheers, Magick! I will give that a go! :)
With Father's Day coming up in June maybe I could drop my wife a hint to get me that kit--that would be better than another tie!!! lol :)
Frederick J. Meccia Much better! ;)
g'day mate, love your channel and your models. cheers bro.
Hi dude! Are you making models or boozing? :))
Both in equal measure
Great eyebrows!
I've always thought so. Keeps the forehead warm in winter.
this cat is cool, building models and reviewing fine brewed distillations...
The72challenger One hobby requires the other! ;)
Nádherná práca!
Marian MM70 Thank you, Marian, I appreciate that. :)
Love your vid!
Thanks, Bertie! :)
Awesome shirt
Jannik Riebisch Thanks! :)
Hello.. don't even know and I apologize, your first name. the Corsair is gorgeous and I say if your panel line technique returns the results you're looking for.. go for it. since this is a bit of a general 'shoot the breeze' conversational video, a la whiskey tasting, etc.
+MakingModelsAgain Great videos, Beautiful F-4 U Corsair. Scottish rot gut? Try some Kentucky bourbon. :-)
Hey I like building models and getting pissed at the same time too! The models look shit at the end but hey I feel great after it! cheers
Some kits actually do drive you to drink..... I've built a few of them.
I like the t-shirt
Man you can woffle😪! I would bet you are a top guy to have as mate but boy 13min 18sec and only a couple shots of the plane. Even if you had rolled pics of the plane while you were expressing you thoughs would have helped. The problem is that you turn out some real nice pieces! Please increase pics and relevant chat in future posts....PLEASE!
Sorry, didn't want to be rude and am still subscribed.... still love the models you put out😆
Pfft... this was a short film by comparison to some of my marathons slogs! ;)
0:25 Macallan scotch from Islay!
Lag-a-voo-Lin
TheHj04 Here's the weird thing - I actually know that, so why I said Lag-u-val-in, is anyone's guess! There's actually a video on YT with Brian Cox performing that pronunciation - that's where I learned it from, so why I said it like that may have been the Talisker getting revenge.... !
