An odd, sometimes clunky, sometimes astonishing film. It tells its story without a single extraneous scene or word, and the photography is quite gorgeous with its luminous close-ups of Howard and Davis. Some of the story telling is so elliptical and condensed that the movie becomes almost surreal. Bette Davis really steals the movie, just the kind of flamboyant, over-the-top role she was made for, and I guarantee you have never seen her quite like this. "And after you kissed me I used to wipe my mouth - wipe my mouth !" It's a shocking moment. Really glad to have seen this, finally - it's an hour and 20 mins well spent.
For me, one of the greatest marvels is being able to see the world as it was in 1934!!

This is great quality, better than other versions. This film is beautiful, Leslie Howard is a treat. Bette is wonderful!
