They tried to update the story of "Little Lord Fauntelroy" but I always come back to the original because it's got heart and so much soul, despite the others that have great actors too, this story is full of so much humor and the protagonist hs a con-lady wanting to make easy money by cheating others. So wonderfully done - I can't help but to love this original story of the 1930s.

I wish the values that were so "instill" in movies would have stayed. However, updating the new values which show there are not wanting by the church and the public leaves one so disappointed in new movies. At first, I was curious but once you see the compromise that have been made, it makes me sad. Values, which I learned from the 50s made me aware of "Ten Commandments" were so instilled back in the 50s. Now, there isn't a glimmer of any of the laws of God. That is what hurts so much.

I am a movie buff since I was young and must admit this movie does something to me which I miss terribly with the good manners shown by Freddie Bartholomew and all other actors following the same principle. How refreshing it is to see such fine acting by all in this movie. Loved the author of this story which is delightful to the end.

I remember my mother taking me to the cinema to see this film when I was 7 yrs old, that was 61 yrs ago.
I loved this film & sat enthralled watching it for the 1st time.i was in my best outfit wth gloves & hat & in the intermission my mother bought us hot roast chestnuts to eat while watching the 2nd part of the film. It was still quite genteel in those days
I've watched this film a few times since then but watching it now, I can still smell the chestnuts & ice cream from the 50's & oddly my mother's Max Factor lipstick & face powder which had distinctive smells.. lovely memories, wonderful film, & the extraordinary Freddie Bartholomew.

@Patrick G thank you for yr reply. Yes i totally agree with you, for all that we have today with computers, internet, online shopping, great medical care, modern medicine, freedom for the youth, social awareness, tolerance, the understanding of mental illness, help for poor families... still i would trade 90%
Of it all for those days of my early youth, even before that.
      I have a 'thing ' about the 1930's
Even though the war would have to be lived through, it was still a time when values counted, manners were delightful, things were made/built to last. People were still wonderfully naive.
Life was hard, yes but we worked together, communities looked out for each other, there was a contentment in the simple things
How many people today can leave their doors unlocked? Even ajar?
I know times were damn hard & people had to graft but there was a happiness thats hard to define & i would still swop my life now ( & ive had a good life, great parents friends children good education well travelled etc) for the 1930's or 40's.
Alas i cant go back but i still have the most wonderful memories of my childhood & parents & funny old eccentric grandparents aunts & uncles from the 1920' & 30's
Stay well my friend, be strong, safe & sound 🤗

I believe that is true because they sense more than we do about people. I have heard that dogs can sense something beyond what we see. Animals are very special and what is extraordinary is that each specie for whatever reason have been able to help other species that are in trouble and bring them to humans to assist them even a shark who brought a turtle caught in a neck and pushed that large turtle for us to help him. Interesting, isn't it?

Now this was a movie that made me cry buckets of tears. The innate goodness of humanity remains highlighted. It made me question my cynical views, for a fraction of a second. I was touched by the son and the mother and I wish I could congratulate the entire team for the magic they created on screen. It is one of those films that you recollect in solitude and a profound layered array of emotions overwhelm you and the fragrance lingers on. Cult classic deserves a great deal of appreciation for making it accessible to me.

@@lovemetender1954 The only overcrowded places are the wretched cities where the Marxists have been in control for a very long time. They hate the people who live in their cities, as evidenced by the crime they allow, the poor conditions of the schools and the terrible living conditions of the people who keep reelecting them into power. These are extremely evil people who have a vested interest in keeping the people ignorant of their devices and believing their lies. A perfect example of this is San Francisco which has been allowed to fester and rot by foul politicians who want to eradicate the middle class and have only two options: the very rich and the very poor. Most people are blind to what is going on due to lies flowing from our educational, media and political establishment. I hope and pray that people will finally wake up to the tyranny being perpetrated against us.

The sad irony is that his own parents caused huge problems for Freddie’s career and finances when they decided to cash in on his fortune. He missed starring in other roles as a child due to family fights in court. American lawyers got the lions share.

      Bernita,
      Your Mother was right.
The first edition of the book was illustrated with beautifully drawn pictures. The little boy who modelled for it was in fact Frances Hodgson Burnett's own son.
In this movie, Freddie Bartholomew has his hair relatively short, but the child in the illustrations had shoulder-length golden curls.
The outfit that he wore to the party was black velvet with a lace collar, and a sash around his waist. So the style imitated that child in the Gainsborough painting of the Blue Boy.

So far above the garbage ground out in film today...I love classic film, won't watch the newer junk...this is what film should be. Thank you!

I was just thinking the same thing too. - why couldn't they have kept up the same values instead of removing what is precious in life to follow through such as common sense, ethics and moral codes? So sad, they remove what so many generations don't seem to learn from our parents, school and society as a whole.

The curiosity is not something they would extend to other movies only to watch the current style of films in today's world. They truly miss so much, perhaps compassion and empathy is not popular with today's generation but for me it means the world of how we treat each other.

My grandmother really enjoyed this movie, and when I was young she would take me to church and on the way home she would tell me that the way that I interacted with the other church members reminded her of Little Lord Fauntleroy. I did not know what she meant and would ask her who he was and she would say to me that I would have to watch the movie. Well, I am almost 50 years old and have finally watched the movie. I have a good feeling inside knowing that she thought of me in that way. I miss her. She was the biggest positive influence in my life. In the 1800's in England many children from poor families were working long hours at terrible jobs! There were no child protection laws as there are today! There were numerous orphaned children living on the streets of London! A more accurate depiction of life in those days is the movie "Great Expectations", based on Charles' Dickens novel! Or better yet, "Oliver Twist! "

Haven't seen this one for decades, I believe. Very good! Little Ceddie certainly showed his grandfather how to be an Earl!.. I hope many others learnt those lessons too and took them to heart!...

Agreed. Manners and respect seems to have gone out of style.

@Oma Cool Fred Astaire once observed that, how can you expect young people to have manners when they never observe any?

If not for American English, English would still be spoken properly! After all it is 'English'...

@@fingerprint5511 The English language is the only "living" language in existence. It evolves and crafts itself, and for that reason, it will eventually be the most important language in the world. In the de facto sense, American English is already the most important language in the world and anyone who seeks great success in other countries is taught to speak it. There is nothing "wrong" with American English. Just like there is nothing wrong with Nigerian English or Jamaican English or Argentinian English. Posh accents and rigorous grammatical rules don't make a language better - they actually limit it. A vast majority of 15th, 16th and 17th century Brits actually sounded more like today's Midwestern Americans than the Royals do today. The whole "stiff upper lip" or "Long Island Lockjaw" accent is an affectation - a way to seem superior to regular folks. Freddie Bartholomew, the Little Lord in this movie, didn't actually speak so eloquently. It was his talent in children's elocution contests that got him noticed in the USA. It was a gimmick for which he was gifted. He was also a very talented actor. The English wanted nothing to do with him but he charmed the USA. Sadly, he was washed up by the time he was 14. Using his natural voice, Hollywood tried to pass him off in parts as a Canadian or Tasmanian - which made no sense. Luckily, English is nothing like French, which is my first language. Strictly bound by its rules and the hubris of those antiquated rules of grammar and its hatred and fear of English, French is already a semi-dead language. Useless in poetry and literature and film because if its persistent antiquity and refusal to accept new words, French will eventually vanish from the face of the earth. Spanish and English will eventually merge in some parts of the world and the Asian languages will fade in favor of English. 400 years from now, most European languages will be seen as curiosities - the way we look at Latin today. Always remember that language is a living thing, and if you don't feed it, it dies.

I know a handful of polite children in my years who grew into decent functioning adults. So many today are callous, don't listen, struggling, etc. Too much media
