- If only you had a crystal ball when developing a service and could foresee the risks, impact of environmental changes and dependencies on others. If you did, then you could price your offerings more competitively and make sure the performance delivered the desired outcomes, whilst ensuring that you receive the appropriate returns.
Computational Modelling is the next best thing.
At BAE Systems, Computational Modelling is used in developing our service offerings, to understand the key drivers/levers, as well as the impact of different scenarios on our ability to deliver the service. We also look more broadly at the through-life costs, from concept to disposal, so that the overall enterprise offers the best value for money. This means that as well as looking at our element of the solution, we also look more broadly to understand the impact of any changes we make - e.g. we may be able to reduce our costs slightly, but this might have a negative impact elsewhere in the enterprise.
As well as helping us make better decisions, Computational Modelling is also a powerful communication tool, to better collaborate with our partners, suppliers and customers.
In this presentation, I will share with you a number of examples where Computational Modelling has helped make better decisions and ensure Value for Money across the enterprise.
BIO: Suzanne, a Fellow of the Operational Research Society, has provided computational modelling support to decision makers for over twenty years. In her early career, she focussed on supporting military frontline commanders, which included tours in both Bosnia and Kosovo. For the last 10 years, she has advised business leaders, aided by computational modelling, giving them evidence to make better-informed decisions that can be easily communicated. As the Director of CORDA, Suzanne has a team of 40 modellers/analysts, providing support across BAE Systems, as well as into the external market.
