That's some good shooting! Well within the tolerances of it's intended use. The ammo and packaging completes the picture, as well! Love it.

My all time favorite "cap n ball " pistol also !!
Mine will shoot 6" circles at 50 meters.
I have thousands of load development and cartridge making hours under my belt.
If I could just get back the man hours I have spent cleaning these pistols I would be happy.
    Love your show !!

This is the video I've been waiting for after your test with .44 Johnson & Dow conicals. I recently bought an Eras Gone mould for my .36 Uberti Remington New Model Navy, along with 10 of your excellent reproduction cartridge boxes !! I find the conicals slightly more accurate than round balls whether loaded with loose powder or combustible paper cartridges. Keep the videos coming. :-)

I have purchased one of these molds. The bullet is the best, easiest loading, most accurate bullet I have ever used. Been looking for a good conical bullet for percussion revolvers for years, this is it.

Great revolver. I have only a .36 Hege-Uberti 1861 Navy replica of this gun but it also performs well at the range. Mine is made in 1975 (AA) and has a nickel plated cylinder. The rest of the gun is blued and made of steel (no brass parts). It was some kind of special edition I believe. I bought it used a few years ago.

It's got a lot of umph for a mere 15gns of gunpowder! And clearly accurate with the traditional conicals!

I believe that is a Colt's Cartridge Works Bullet. Era's Gone only makes the .44 Johnston and Dow mould and .36 Colt, they will be offering the Richmond Laboratory .36 later. Beautiful pistol excellent shooting.

The .36 caliber mould he makes is the Colt's Cartridge Works. Next month he is releasing a Richmond Laboratory mould also in .36 caliber. The .44 caliber mould is the Johnston and Dow.

, with the Pocket .31s, I ll do a few card table distance shots to see what the elongated can do. The elongated ball is v e r y long! only about 10 grains of powder can be charged. It s almost as heavy as a Navy ball! The velocity won t be there, but the punch will be! I ll set up the baffel box to where it will show impact effect (it ll be on a roller that will alow for a shock value to be read).

I have a 1862 Police in 36 caliber. With round ball it shoots to the sights out to 35 yards, with the conical bullet it shoots to the sights out to 25 yards but a tad low compared to the round ball. These guns have small sights which makes them basically a point and shoot weapon but they are well made .

  • @DocLaw172
    @DocLaw172 7 років тому

Just took my 1862 Police 5-shot out the other week and tried it at 50 yards. I never hit the target once. Could not see where it was hitting and it turned out that all shots were high and to the left. I had been aiming towards the center bottom of the target and they were hitting to the left of the top. Yes, that hammer notch sight does leave a lot to be desired. BTW, my target was approximately the same size as yours. Found the holes on the 4 x 8 foot sheet of plywood used as a target holder.

As always, a 1st class presentation (that most of the Americans would do to emulate).
However: having also watched your 'Army' vid. I'm surprised at how enthusiastic you are about the Navy.
And I'm paraphrasing here: 'I prefer Remingtons' & don't like Colts. They have no top frame strap, & dislodged percussion caps jam the action (one such on the Navy too).
Regards the percussion caps - I'm surprised you don't re-size to make them a little tighter(!) After all: you pay a lot of detailed attention to other aspects of your preparation.

The .382" diameter will fill a .376" diameter just fine if it doesn't get honed down to a .370" or .360" something by a chamber throat that, oddly enough, always seems to be smaller than the two preceding diameters (bore and ball)!

I could not be more jealous. How did you find that sweetheart of a revolver. I have a 5 1/2 in 1861 repro. It's spooky accurate at 15 yards. It also handles better than anything else I've ever shot. I just love the 61. Notch sights on the hammer work really well up close and fast. I like a revolver that shoots a little high and that describes most Colt clones.

It sure would be good to see you do a pine board penetration comparison shoot with all the colts! I m preparing to do just that. I have an example each of all the Authentic Colt blackpowder Series and two Signature Series (WH Dragoon and 1849 Pocket). I ll do it with Colt mold cast elongated/round, from 12, 25, 45 and 75 yds.

Do you intend to make a video on the Mannlicher M1895 rifle? I know that this channel is more centred on black powder weapons, but you have done some videos on more modern surplus arms and quite a few on the weapons of the Habsburg Empire.

Most beautiful percussion revolver ever made? I kindly & respectfully disagree. The Remington New Army, imo, has that title.
