    Definitely getting a color...but let me tell you all... I used to plastidip all my wheels black before this company or before it was cool to every car I owned. B I G • T I P S • #1. Don’t be lazy...remove your wheels so you don’t have to do the silly brake covering thing & so that you don’t have any accidental spray onto your actual car paint! #2. Don’t worry about this extra kit...use a bunch of notecards from when you used to be in school or something and slip them in line all around your rim (protects the tires) #3. Put a tarp or something under your wheels or the car if you’re painting at your house, stuff will spray everywhere haha. #4. Use SEVERAL coats and wait for each to dry individually before trying another coat. That is all 👍🏻

      Muranaman the only reasons the plastidip should start to peel or wear off is because of the amount of time since it got plastidipped OR bc they were curbed. besides those, weathering or dust or any kind of stone/pebble should not damage or make it peel off. talking from experience

    • @THROWSOMEDIPONIT
      @THROWSOMEDIPONIT  5 років тому

    • @darrylpolite8722
      @darrylpolite8722 5 років тому +1

      the jeffster of awesomeness lacquer clear coat will give you better results on the looks but I wouldn't recommend it on Plastidip. This is because it hardens and it takes away the rubber properties of the dip preventing you from peeling it all off.
      You will have to use a chemical like a paint thinner to remove it. Glosifier allows for you to completely peel it if you have enough thick coats. If it's hard you can spray some Goo Gone on the wheels and let it sit for about 20 minutes, spray them down with another layer of Goo Gone and let it sit for 5 minutes and it will come back up. I'm doing this project again because after 2 years one of my wheels is beginning to peel bad and Plastidip looks better starting over versus patching it up.

      @THROWSOMEDIPONIT  6 років тому +3

      MrPlasm0 thanks! You don’t have to mask your lug nuts. You can peel the dip off after if you don’t want those dipped. Valve stem definitely needs to be masked if you don’t have caps for it. Plasti dipped will most likely need to be touched up when you get tire changes, not when you just take the wheels off car.

      @@the_re_up for starters you can lay the wheel horizontally, therefor reducing the risk of any possible drips running down the faces of the wheel spokes. Also, you can move yourself around the wheel much easier if its off the car, as opposed to reversing the car etc. Its alot easier, and more time efficient to leave the wheel on and protect the brakes etc, But- Taking the wheel off takes more time, will have less possible missed spots, prevent facial drips, overall more of an even coating, and an all out better finish.
      ive done it both with wheels on the car, and off the car on multiple vehicles. For a quick and easy DIY/couple of hour job, just spray on the car. For a better/more professional take on things, take the wheels off.

Was it that I didn’t get the angles good enough ? Was it that I didn’t thoroughly clean the rims good ? Did I wash the car too soon? Did I drive the car to soon? Needless to say do it right the first time or do it alot more times, been over a year now and still looking great. I'd use alcohol to prep, or if you want to go even more insane acetone. Don't over do that though. Pressure wash, regular wash, not a problem. Not sure if the recommended dry use time is 4 hours or 8 hours after, but one of those is it. The can says it. Read the can. Double negative lol. But if you remove the wheel throw a ball of masking tape in the lugnut hole or you're going to hate life when you go to put them on.

    Has anyone had experience with the gloss?
    I've heard if you apply gloss to it, it causes the plastidip to loose it's elastic characteristic and flake when it starts to fall off and then you can't just peel it off you have to chip it all off if you want to do a new fresh job.

      I ran into this problem when I first plasti dipped my rims. Next time I plasti dip my rims I will make sure to leave the bolts untouched. The real problem occurs when you take it to a shop and they remove the tires. They are usually careless so yeah they may peel the surrounding areas.

      in my experience, it's best to do all the coats you want at the time of dipping the rims. if you do it at a later time, it might not adhere to the dip like when it's a fresh dip.

    • @raomar0
      @raomar0 5 років тому +1

      Plastidip is not like spray paint, it is actually better to use heavy coats so it can create a uniform coat and be thick enough to peel. You can go light coats but you need like 8 or nine of them compared to 3-4 heavy coats, so 3 to 4 good coats is typically good for any application of plastidip.

    • @THROWSOMEDIPONIT
      @THROWSOMEDIPONIT  7 років тому +35

      if you've had experience with dipping on concrete, plasti dip is pretty tough to get off a driveway. but any overspray on a car can easily be wiped away.

    I was hoping now that you made a new video... you would have masked off the surrounding areas such as the bumper, fender/quarter panel, door, etc... PlastiDip is a pain in the ass when you spray outside. Even with mild breeze, you will wind up with "overspray" (little specks of paint that blew around) and then you gotta sit there with claybar and let it pull out all the bits of vinyl out of your car's paint...
