Best Ghibli review on the internet, thorough and fair. I've owned my SQ4 for five years now, and it has to be the best all-around car I've had that fulfills both my sports car thirst as well as my luxury auto desires. For me the interior simplicity and analog dials were a huge attraction, much like a Porsche I once owned. Too many auto makers today are wrapping-in too much digital technology in their interiors which means high cost in repair. This evaluation of the Maserati was spot on. Vielen Dank!
What I like about the interior of this ghibli and the new giulia is that it isn't overly techy or gimmicky unlike some of the competitors. Those interiors will age terribly, but the Italians emphasis on style means they are always such a nice place to be
Great review. Great detail. There is a UA-camr named Doug that people like because he talks fast and is funny. But it's obvious he knows NOTHING about cars. I wish those people watched your reviews instead.
@@visheshgoel6671 Yeah he's not the smartest person in the world to put it lightly... he's so obviously biased against Maseratis and his fanboys are so sheepish, they act like he says the truth
I picked up mine yesterday.- Ghibli S... Love it. Love the exhaust note, style color and the drive. It is different than driving a BMW and Audi. I have owned both and cant compare them with the Ghibli.
i had one.. sold it in 4 months. too heavy, underpowered.. low to the ground (scratched bumper everywhere), fuel guzzler and didnt give much performance, steering feel is too numb, infotainment system from chrysler, went to dealer for warranty on oil pressure sensor, climate control button stopped working and so on... was best day of my life to get rid of it
They are cool looking but even my neighbor that owns one (looks like he's on his third or fourth one, he works for a car dealer) anyway he says the space in the back seat area is inadequate.

I recently purchased this car. It's wonderful; and it performs terrifically. I just love everything about it. The seating position is perfect, and the visibility throughout the vehicle is also perfect. The audio system works exceptionally well. Dodo M yea that's the only reason I bought...I feel special on the road when I drive it...don't really care about the infotainment system as the car is about the driving and the feeling...it fulfills most of the needs in The infotainment but not very flashy

The 21" rims are even comfortable, especially with Michelin PSS (in comparison to the wood tyre PZero), but the response from the street is great - you can feel every small stone. Don't forget: The Bella is a sportscar in a business dress.
Best reviews on UA-cam, you go into great detail and show real world practicality. Also I would love for you to do some ASMR videos reviewing cars, I love when you go into detail about different materials and the different noises buttons make and how quality they sound. FOr lombar support, just notice it is interessting only when you do very long drive. When you drive a long road, after a few hours, your back is less supported by your back muscles and the lombar adjust help you to keep your back on the right position. It push on the lombar and you are obliged to keep you back right.
Great review Thomas. I was able to rent one in Miami for a week and came away impressed by the overall ride-comfort-handling combination this car provides. The front seats are excellent and the interior is easy to use. I believe they've made some improvements for 2016 and 2017 will bring a refreshed version.
"Excellent " is now a standard evaluation for your reviews ! I just want to show you something regarding the seat material: Maserati offers a special combination which is cloth on the inner part of the seats and leather on the outside (your favorite I guess). It is called "Zegna" edition and high quality cloth is used. It looks and feels great ! You may find this option in Maserati US car configurator. However, the leather used in this option is still natural. In overall I think that Maserati cars are exclusive ones, especially the Quattroporte. I wish all the best to Autogefühl !!!
+Autogefühl As for suspension you should just get Skyhook which is adaptive and has a special mode for bad roads. For 2016 you also get power trunk release/closing and some safety features like blindspot monitoring, parking assist with rear cross traffic alert. I'm glad that Maserati didn't put adaptive cruise control(they could but decided not to), because, as an enthusiast I love to drive my car, not the other way round. And you can get Ermenegildo Zegna Edition which comes with partially cloth seats. Very good and honest review.
+Milan Grozdanic Having adaptive cruise control does not mean you hand over control to the computer. It means having an extra option for when you need it. I look at it this way - ACC makes the boring part of the driving less stressful so you can better enjoy the fun part!
Excellent test, few points: For rear comfort, SET PEDALS SET ALL THE WAY FORWARD . Drive "diesel way" on ICE INCREASED COMFORT AND ECONOMY & get 2-3 liters/100kms LESS. I got softer and better leather extention option with all "marrone" interior as no simili of that color existed. The optional Skyhook suspension by ZF Sachs is best for soft comfort or hard flat handling of speed bups. The Levante has a new HD rear camera, but always clean camera lense and windows for better rear view and stop light glare. .Philgood.
Thomas, the GPS (Sat Nav) is standard on all Ghibli's, the mapping / central until has completely changed on the new 2017 Ghibli models coming through now, much better and in HD. There is also much more soundproofing ( Especially the boot and with electric closing) on the new 2017/17 Ghibli models, my new 2016 Ghibli is much quieter than my previous 2014 Ghibli model.
Hey Thomas , thanks again for the deepest reviews and of some models which are not that common. Concerning the paddle - shifters apparently some companies leave them fixed to the column since changing gear while taking a corner could upset the car balance , or at least that is what Ferrari says for example.
Great Maserati Ghibli review from Thomas........so good I bought one and love it!., it's a Maserati Ghibli Diesel Bianco White, 20" Urano wheels, Skyhook etc., - the Ghibli is very individual and a stunning looking car (even looks better in the flesh) and gets lots of positive comments. My previous car car was a Mercedes CLS Shooting brake - great car but dull next the Maserati - it has so much more character. Please note the rear seats do fold down (it's a standard feature on the Ghibli) to improve luggage space - just pull them forward the seats are in a split 40/60. I agree the touch screen needs to have a higher definition screen in this class of car, also needs a better quality sound system and a higher definition rear camera quality - but on the plus side the Sat Nav is superb, very intuitive interface, very accurate and very fast - much better than the Mercedes, Audi, BMW sat Nav on my previous cars.
+Atlantik av thanks m8 glad we could help! I guess you ll have a lot of fun with it :) How did you put down the seats? I didnt find any lever for hits. Maybe it is an optional feature?
Hallo Thomas, interessanter Testbericht! That I.C.E mode is especially essential here in the nordic countries for example Finland where I live. Just few days ago the driving conditions were so horrible (a blizzard through the day and about -15 Celsius) and it was so slippery in every road (I even had a minor rear end crash as the other car crashed to the back of my car). The I.C.E mode I think will probably prevent somebody's Maserati from being accidentally crashed ;-D Best regards, Tuukka
I can just visualize the Italian designers having a meeting discussing all the details of this car. "OHH look how beautiful that is!!!! Bravo!!! Bellissima!! Then the assistant says "but maybe we could change this a little because it would be more functional".......immediate collective frown. Then somebody tells the assistant to go get caffe per tutti! hehe. I love Italy!! This car is out there on it's own though. I mean the Jaguar XF S is 20-25k dollars cheaper!! So is the A6, 5 series and even the E class. You would really have to love this car to buy it over that competition. What's your favourite Thomas?
+kevin n true. I like the sound and the driving feeling and the italian design with the Ghibli. Most favourite in design to me is the XF however, but it has poor interior quality now regretfully. A6 is the one that drives best and has the best technology but is rather unemotional. E-Class and 5-series are very good cars and also feel kind of 'standard' if you know what I mean. So every one of those has pros and cons :)
+kevin n i feel the new jaguar interiors have gone worse, but for the fpace, it seems they will use land rover parts, compare our XF and F-PACE videos: XF ua-cam.com/video/sFTH6_Y0wSo/v-deo.html F-PACE ua-cam.com/video/tdgvRgxktm4/v-deo.html
+Autogefühl A6 drives the best? Can't agree on that. The best driving ones are definitely Ghibli and XF. New E-Class has more tech than A6 too. But when you say you own a Maserati it is quite a special feeling and Maserati is definitely a step above 'normal' premiums, just like Porsche.
I have always had a soft spot for maserati, amazing engines, good looks and nice interiors. But with the ghibli there is something missing, not sure what it is, but the old V8 quattroporte made me fall in love with maserati, but there is just something about the ghibli that I don't like but I am not sure what it is.Thankfully I love the rest of the maserati range. Another good review :)
***** Just finished watching it. I do prefer the interior and exterior of the quattroporte, but I didn't know it didn't drive too good in comparison to its rivals which I would've thought it did. But I still would have that over the ghibli, still just something about it, something I can't put my finger on. When we went to a ferrari garage once, they were selling maseratis there too and I just love the quattroporte and gran-turismo, even if at the end of the day they aren't the best. :)
The wheel is "huge" because it's perfect for twisty mountain roads. The Maserati GT is the same. I had a GT for 5 years, and the bigger steering wheel was perfect for those twisty mountain pass roads. Much better than Porsche.
Hi Thomas, congratulations for the review. I actually own this car now, I must say I agree with the pros and cons you mentioned. Only one you did not so much about the sound: what about (e.g. in the tunnel) really pushing to the max the throttle, the sound is a lot more interesting than what you made us hear (you had to stop for a queue likely in the tunnel). As a con: the sound system (I have the premium one) is not that special, compared to the previous one I had on MB SL and Jag XKR. The car feels a lot special and a lot exotic compared to the 'usual' German trio (Audi, Merc, BMW). But considering its 'limited' space, why not considering an AM Rapide?!? Waiting for your review of that car! Congrats again for your honest and interesting reviews!
+Gordon Gekko thanks! Yeah indeed we always have to watch out for traffic and safety rules :) See our Aston Martin Vantage review here: ua-cam.com/video/7sfqcK7BTYo/v-deo.html
Thanks for the excellent review! I must say I like the exterior, even though as you said the rear is not as special as the front. The interior doesn't look that special at first glance, but the close ups and your discussion about it shows that it's actually rather nice. And it sounds fantastic! I think the downsides make it difficult for them to compete though. Maybe for an update they could add more direct (progressive) steering, an adaptive suspension system and adaptive cruise control. As it is, I think buyers have to accept too many downsides in order to get a different and special car. As for lumbar support: my car has it, but I never use it.
Light brown leather seats + dark wood console and trims.. weird combo. Btw, the Ghibli 2017 version actually features a new, plain tablet-like glass screen and a new climate control, doesn't it..?
Beautiful car but also such a shame to have made the same leg space for the rear bench as it is in my C3. I think when someone buys a 5 doors over a coupe, it needs to be reliable in the rear as well.
Autogefühl, thank you for the very thorough review. Since this S Q4 generally rides in rear-wheel drive, I wonder if using I.C.E. mode would increase the comfort of the ride above the normal mode for someone like myself concerned about too much stiffness in the general day in day out ride? What are your thoughts? Thanks!
Bravo, Thomas. Exterior styling too much like the Infiniti line as you mentioned. Or, is the Infinity too much like the Maserati?? Nice exhaust note in the Galleria Autogefühl! Paddle shifters preferable on the steering wheel (as in my 1er). Btw, I'm so glad I don't have a digital speed display. Seeing the speed digit(s) value constantly changing would drive me nuts! Why not only display the value ever ten digits up or down, if you know what I mean? Saluti! Ciao-ciao
+Mario Dalla Riva Ciao Mario! I see the point with the digital speed-o-meter, I find it easier to look at the digital display. However you can look at the analogue part and put something else in the middle :) Hmm yeah about the Infiniti, lets see with with Infiniti Q70 ua-cam.com/video/yqwOun2vzTU/v-deo.html There, everything seems a little bit "heavier" if you know what I mean, the Maserati is a sports shoe in comparison to that :) But we do some quite a lot similarities
+Autogefühl Hi Thomas. I once read that it's easier for our brain to process a reference image like a needle on an analogue gauge compared to reading and processing a number (ie speed value). I'm of a simple mind so maybe that's why I like non-digits on my instrument panel 😁
i think its the best sounding V6 in the world. Isn't it? BTW excellent review and very detailed one.I would be glad to see you doing Bentley Continenal GT V8 if thats possible coz its my fav. car :)
+firstname lastname indeed awesome sound. I also love the Jaguar F-TYPE V8 sound: ua-cam.com/video/YAWmqbp4aW0/v-deo.html Bentley Continental GTC: ua-cam.com/video/YC9UHmIPA40/v-deo.html
Even though you are reviewing the top Maserati Ghibli V6 / 4 wheel drive, the spec on this car is pretty basic, no full leather, small wheels and no Skyhook which will give a superb ride (Had Skyhook on my first Ghibli but not on my new Ghibli - I do miss it for the better ride!)
Atlantik av I prefer non adjustable dampers generally, there's less chance for electrical problems further down the line. also, can also swap out dampers easier than with adaptive suspension setups.
Those "gaps" next to the wheel arch at 3:12 are apparently called "portholes". They're a particular form of side vent. 3 side vents on each side signifies that there's a 6 cylinder motor (3+3 adds up to 6) under the hood. Here's a bit more info on the history of them for those interested. www.mustangspeed.com/the_port_hole_fad.htm
+strategy With the Mercedes SL, I also got to know that similar holes (placed a little lower) were used to cool down the old drum brakes which got hotter than disc brakes. And with BMW, they use it for air stream flow (also placed lower then)
I believe that both screens in the panel of this Ghibli are the same used for FCA group in the Jeep Cherokee and even in the new Jeep Compass made in Brazil. :-(
I loved the video! I'm going to buy one when Crypto hits the peak! At the end, around @45:00 I would never go that fast around trees. Trees don't budge.
Price wise, it is the cheapest Italian sports car. Unfortunately, the Germans do a better job in this category. Nothing on the Ghibli has the real "wow factor".

+Atlantik av thanks m8 glad we could help! I guess you ll have a lot of fun with it :)
How did you put down the seats? I didnt find any lever for hits. Maybe it is an optional feature?
There are two leather straps (one for each part) to pull down the seats 60/40. The strap is located close to the door.
Great review!

The I.C.E mode I think will probably prevent somebody's Maserati from being accidentally crashed ;-D
Best regards, Tuukka
+Tuukka Varjoranta Vielen Dank! yeah indeed ... makes it easier to drive you dont have to be that careful then :)
I like the fixed paddles, it's more organic and you always know their location. When you turn the wheels, you hands are not on the same exact place

Sounds really amazing !! I love the seats, nice color. A "Thomas blue" color would be great :) Nice review.
+ced5960 ehhe yeah it would =)
excellent video. very thorough.
thanks, join us for more !
Schönes Review!
+FluviGamingDE Vielen Dank!
Maserati sounds awesome :D
+94306v8 it does!
+Autogefühl is the interior of the XF that poor? I'm afraid that the F pace might be a let down now.
+kevin n i feel the new jaguar interiors have gone worse, but for the fpace, it seems they will use land rover parts, compare our XF and F-PACE videos:
XF ua-cam.com/video/sFTH6_Y0wSo/v-deo.html
F-PACE ua-cam.com/video/tdgvRgxktm4/v-deo.html
+Autogefühl A6 drives the best? Can't agree on that. The best driving ones are definitely Ghibli and XF. New E-Class has more tech than A6 too. But when you say you own a Maserati it is quite a special feeling and Maserati is definitely a step above 'normal' premiums, just like Porsche.
Great view and great review
+taha behzadnia thanks !
I don't really understand the power supply in the cup holder area.. I don't think it's efficient to have liquid drinks near electronics.
+W-_-T got a point there
Sexy Car/review. Debating this over a E class or new F pace. Dealer is 1500km away which is a deterrent.
+EA - Enormous Assholes thanks! Did you also check our quattroporte review? ua-cam.com/video/jZtT8wj2e-Q/v-deo.html
+EA - Enormous Assholes yeah I know what you mean. Ghibli offers more driving fun indeed in comparison
Excellent review, thank you a lot
+calypsocat appreciated, keep supporting us
The wheel is "huge" because it's perfect for twisty mountain roads.
Yeah indeed we always have to watch out for traffic and safety rules :)

nice reviews sir, best regards

Autogefühl yes, off course👍
Thanks for the excellent review!
I must say I like the exterior, even though as you said the rear is not as special as the front. The interior doesn't look that special at first glance, but the close ups and your discussion about it shows that it's actually rather nice. And it sounds fantastic!
I think the downsides make it difficult for them to compete though. Maybe for an update they could add more direct (progressive) steering, an adaptive suspension system and adaptive cruise control. As it is, I think buyers have to accept too many downsides in order to get a different and special car.
As for lumbar support: my car has it, but I never use it.
+artemusje2 thanks m8 !
Great video.
+mitafoaj thanks !
I wonder how much the ghibli has changed since the last set of updates. Whether it's for the better or not
Debating between a second hand 2014 Maserati SQ4 (maybe s) or a new 2017 Porsche Cayman (maybe getting S as well)
ZDY no get an 2016 and up, 2014, 15 have had many issues
Ford Stone already got the Cayman GTS with the last flat 6
ZDY ok, that’s some good shit, enjoy.. getting rid of the 45amg, and getting the Maserati, the bigger one, can’t even spell it..lol don’t laugh.
Light brown leather seats + dark wood console and trims.. weird combo.
Btw, the Ghibli 2017 version actually features a new, plain tablet-like glass screen and a new climate control, doesn't it..?
I like it, might buy one, one day may be second hand
Maserati has the best sounding muffler system
Beautiful car but also such a shame to have made the same leg space for the rear bench as it is in my C3.
I think when someone buys a 5 doors over a coupe, it needs to be reliable in the rear as well.
I said it before he's very tranquil and should do a ASMR audio to relax us hyper Americans lol
The plastic parts in front of the wheels are there for aerodynamic reasons.
+8coibaf yeah we had that in the discussion see comments below, strange parts still :)
Das schönste Auto in seiner klasse!!
Thanks!
thanks! Its rather just to decrease the throttle input ...
However you can look at the analogue part and put something else in the middle :)
Hmm yeah about the Infiniti, lets see with with Infiniti Q70 ua-cam.com/video/yqwOun2vzTU/v-deo.html
There, everything seems a little bit "heavier" if you know what I mean, the Maserati is a sports shoe in comparison to that :) But we do some quite a lot similarities
+Autogefühl Hi Thomas. I once read that it's easier for our brain to process a reference image like a needle on an analogue gauge compared to reading and processing a number (ie speed value).
I'm of a simple mind so maybe that's why I like non-digits on my instrument panel 😁
Great review. You should also do a shorter version to attract viewers besides this thorough very good review
+Joel C thanks! We ll do a small exhaust/acceleration version of that one and then link to the full review :)
i think its the best sounding V6 in the world. Isn't it?
BTW excellent review and very detailed one.I would be glad to see you doing Bentley Continenal GT V8 if thats possible coz its my fav. car :)
+firstname lastname indeed awesome sound. I also love the Jaguar F-TYPE V8 sound: ua-cam.com/video/YAWmqbp4aW0/v-deo.html
Bentley Continental GTC: ua-cam.com/video/YC9UHmIPA40/v-deo.html
+Autogefühl Definately F-TYPE sounds so amazing in V8 territory.Love that
+firstname lastname did you watch that scene in the forest driving away? woahh...
+Autogefühl yeah i did, i m just wondering the pleasure of hearing that in reality coz i have never heard it in reality.
+firstname lastname its really awesome !
oaafff sick sound !
Needs bigger wheels, it's a big car so at least 20" wheels
Very good and detailed review as always, I just wonder where the spare-tire is located in this car?
+TubeMeUpp thanks! Nowadays most cars dont have a spare tyre anymore but a repair kit
Aha, I think I am a little bit old fashion. Some brand new SUVs still has. Thanks for the response.
+TubeMeUpp yep, some still do, its divided or you can sometimes get it by extra option
Since you asked... column-mounted paddles are better.
Maserati set really ambitious goals when it comes to sales, did they reach them?
+Angus MacGyver 2014 was 36,500 cars worldwide, dont have the 2015 figure yet
Do you know if that was according to the plans Thomas?
+Angus MacGyver 2014 to 2013 was a big surge. Lets see what happens with 2015 ... didnt find any figures yet
How many miles can you put on this car?
Those "gaps" next to the wheel arch at 3:12 are apparently called "portholes". They're a particular form of side vent. 3 side vents on each side signifies that there's a 6 cylinder motor (3+3 adds up to 6) under the hood.
Here's a bit more info on the history of them for those interested. www.mustangspeed.com/the_port_hole_fad.htm
+strategy interesting!
+strategy With the Mercedes SL, I also got to know that similar holes (placed a little lower) were used to cool down the old drum brakes which got hotter than disc brakes. And with BMW, they use it for air stream flow (also placed lower then)
Yeah as long as it's form follow function I have no problem with those side vents. .
I meant to say"Days/Weeks pass me by like they were seconds,UA-cam is in dire need of an edit feature.Cheers
I believe that both screens in the panel of this Ghibli are the same used for FCA group in the Jeep Cherokee and even in the new Jeep Compass made in Brazil. :-(
Excellent
Had this car adaptive Skysomething suspension?
Hey Thomas,
I like this video :D!!!
I loved the video! I'm going to buy one when Crypto hits the peak! At the end, around @45:00 I would never go that fast around trees. Trees don't budge.
Cheers!
Nice review. Great looking car. Now of only the d bags could get over the Chrysler switches. Lol.
Cheers!
good video👍
+Matzi Putzi merci!
Price wise, it is the cheapest Italian sports car. Unfortunately, the Germans do a better job in this category. Nothing on the Ghibli has the real "wow factor".
with the exception of the logo
