RS Hunter oh they suck and i avoid them at all costs.. but in sand, mud, ice/snow they can be the only solution.. once your axles are burried no winch is going to pull you free
This is BY FAR the best Hi-Lift "how to" video and info on the Internet. Not even Hi-Lift's own video gives these proper use and safety details. In my many years of 4-wheeling, I've seen FAR too many people hurt because they didn't know the proper way to use or the high risks associated with improper Hi-Lift use.
Good grief, EVERYONE of these Team O'Neil videos is PACKED for of great, useful information!! I've learned a ton since discovering your channel. Great presentations, Wyatt! Really clear and well explained!
Good tutorial video of how to use the farm jack. I needed to know how to descend the jack as Ive forgotten. You included that very item in your video and showed how its done. So I can go and use my jack now, to raise up my fence panels. Cheers
Glad I found this; great video! A friend lent me his for an off-road trip I was doing in my 2017 Tacoma TRD and I thought I was a dummy because I couldn't find any way to use it. I'm so glad you pointed out that you need hard points to use this jack and I don't have sliders yet, so back it went.
Newb here - thanks for the in depth instruction and explanation of the hi lift jack. I realized I don't need one (until I add off road bumper, rock panels etc) and will look more to a come along. Thanks again! Love Team O'Neil!
Great video, man. I just got my hi-lift jack and didn't know any of this before ordering. Sure glad I outfitted my truck with bull bars, solid wheels and a hitch to get the most out of this jack.
I used a high lift jack with the high lift mate that hooks into the wheel spokes to raise a stock 2001 jeep Cherokee high enough to get logs under the tire, from there we were able to get the jeep unstuck and back to camp. The jeep was stuck in a sand dune. The lift mate definitely is very useful when lifting a stock vehicle.
nice video - one added usage case is super low probability, which is extrication, using the the hi-lift to spread open a door/window/something with it's jaws, and another jaw below the climbing mechanism. i've never had to use it that way, but it is a potential use
I got one a long time ago for an Explorer with Stock bumpers thinking that it would be amazing. I rapidly realized the same thing that you pointed out, and then, years later, came here to see what I was missing. The thing that I have taken away is that it is a fairly useful tool, like a hammer, but as with a hammer, there are problems at which it excels and problems to which it is dangerous to even attempt a solution.
Thank you very much for the instructional video. It helped me a lot especially in safety operation. I use mine on occasion to remove stubborn posts or stumps. I love the Hi-Lift Jack. Well-made piece of equipment.
Don't think I'll ever need one of these but guy left my shed he delivered up high on the ass end with a jack like this. I thought I'd learn a little about them before I went to remove it from my shed. Yeaaah, I think I'll wait for the guy to come back and set my shed down correctly. Thanks for the info. Don't have a desire to die today.
Factory jack for the mid late 70s Nova was like that, except it had a tab that hooked into slots in the bumpers. Around 2000 when I was like 15 I had that situation where a bunch of us were driving around middle of the night and got a flat lol. I was the only one who knew even a little about cars so had to figure it out. Shit tipped over when I had it fully raised. Nobody died, but it was a sobering moment
Awesome thank you! I have everything to pull my car out of a bog on my new property , I had the high lift jack but there are no points to lift from, I have the snatch and tree straps but no one to pull me, I have a tee near by so now I’m sorted!
This guy makes some very valid points. All of what he said is great info. You must have points on your vehicle to use the high lift on. If you do, can be great to get out of mud. Consider a front and rear tow hitch. not that expensive.
i really appreciate the honesty of this video, i was looking for a video to tell me where to jack on a stock G wagen and it seems the answer is nowhere…..
On my stock 2001 Silverado I jack from the tow hooks if I’m lifting from the front and in the back the hitch is built into the bumber which is then attached to the frame so I jack from there
Bought one for my Humvee but kinda a different situation having a rear bumper that you can literally hang the truck in the air by and soon will have side rails too. I always scratch my head when I see these things on wranglers with no rock rails or bumpers lol.
I bought this to lift fence posts out of the ground but thought it would be useful for other things. Been like 6 years, still only use has been for posts.
There is a hole in the lift tab of the Jack for a Shackle just like the top end of the jack has . Use that for attaching a long sling etc when pulling a vehicle out of a hole ... One slip of the jack or some other weird movement will cause the sling eye to go slack and slip of that lift tab. Truck stuck in a very difficult spot ? Use a 2:1 pulley system with the Jack. Having a complete proper recovery kit is essential for any thing that may get thrown at you .
The bottom hole of the lifting tab you're talking about is not rated for much load. I just looked quickly online to find a minimum breaking strength and couldn't find one... But Hi-Lift specifically tells you to use the jack foot and not the hole for winching
Does this mean that those offroad bumpers and rock sliders are meant to be used as lift points? I see these jacks mounted to Jeeps all the time. I wonder how often they're used.
Can you do another video about some better equipment for mostly stock vehicles? You mentioned come-alongs, but what about changing a tire in an off-road or dirt road situation?
comando293 a small bottle jack is probably your best bet, i prefer then to the scissor style jacks most vehicles come with, can get them at the junkyard they came stock in some vehicles, if you drive in muddy areas bring a 12x12" sheet of thick plywood and some blocking
A 12 inches length of 2 inch PVC, with a cap on it, slid over the vertical rail of the jack, helps protect your head, fenders and such from being damaged.
Great video thanks, I do off-roading but not extreme, biggest obstacles I face are mud and sand in my region... I'm thinking traction boards and a come-along would probably be a better investment than one of these. 🙂
I always had this question about rallying. When i drive slowly on gravel i hear the rocks kicking loudly so how should i drive quickly don't you feel like something is going to break?
If you're going to do some rallying, definitely think about a skidplate underneath and some underbody protection, mudflaps etc. A normal car will last a while, but with a few precautions, it will last MUCH longer.
moslem770 if youre asking these questions you shouldnt attempt any rally driving nor automotive work yourself.. common sense is lacking maybe try golf seems more your speed
Also, thanks for the realistic review of the hi lift jack. I almost bought an off-brand model today, but my truck appears mostly stock and there's no solid mounting point. A pulley and ratchet system is gonna be much more effective and versatile for my current rig. You just saved me almost $100 (and 100#) and helped focus my extraction kit! 🙏
Only really useful for a flat tire in mud/snow where regular jack won't raise the corner high enough. But you have to have that wheel hooks adapter and high enough jack stand.
I love this channel/school. "Hey, I know it's the greatest thing since sliced bread according to the internet, but in real life it's a piece of garbage with practically no use for most consumers" 🤣
Great video, you know your stuff, you probably saved people s life's. No UA-cam when I learned to use a High lift, good refresher course for me. Thank you. 🏁🏁🏁🏁👍🏁😄🏁.
I've seen kits where you can use these with a chain and you don't have to keep reconnecting every four feet. I was wondering how those work I've seen some videos but I'm still not totally clear on it. I always wondered why not a come along. I don't know that I like the idea of standing that close to a cable under tension on a come along. Definitely not a Chinese one. I just saw a video where they were saying go click to click not all the way from top to bottom on the Range hi-lift jack.
It won´t damage/dent the door at all. Cause u can open the door and swing it out of the danger-zone. That´s what doors are there for, to be easily movable obstacles is their exact function...
I use that jack to fell good about myself. Like most neerda out there I almost never go off road, but G does is it not look good and flashy on top of the spare tyre 😊
When the shortcomings of a tool exceed the advantages, those need to be made plain and clear. Exactly the case with a Hi Lift. I don’t hate them, but they’re only useful under a very specific set of circumstances
Yea if you don't have a clue the high-lift is probably not for you. If you are prepared with the proper equipment as well as common sense then they can be one of the best tools on the truck. Some of your assessment was good however it mimicked a person that has no clue. While a lot of people fit this bill it would be only right to show how a person well equipped could make use of the tool. As far as the come-along goes I have found them unreliable and awkward for normal use. One or two times just fine though. But very limited in their use for simply a longer pull. Maybe I had cheap ones in the past. But they tend to be a royal pain.
I should of watched this before I bought one :/ I guess I’ll use the tire strap and use the hook in the hitch receiver if anything. Hitch seems a tad sketch because it’s centered and the car can fall either way... just depends on the situation I guess. Thank you!!!
These are better suited for lifting up sheds and portions of houses to repair a post or level it out. I think a normal hydraulic lift would be way easier, safer, and general purpose for lifting a car. And if height is an issue, then carry a huge piece of wood like a 4x8x36 or something to rest the jack on.
Finally, a video of a man jacking that I can watch alone in my room that doesn't disappoint my Dad when he catches me watching it.
🤣
It's great to see an honest assessment of these things. Most make them seem like the ultimate solution for nearly everything.
RS Hunter oh they suck and i avoid them at all costs.. but in sand, mud, ice/snow they can be the only solution.. once your axles are burried no winch is going to pull you free
Yes, they are armstrong jacks. But if they're all you have, they're very helpful.
0😊😊
That red 4x4 pickup is 🔥
Probably the most productive 14:58 minutes I've spent on the internet during quarantine. Good Job 👍
This is BY FAR the best Hi-Lift "how to" video and info on the Internet.

Probably won't own one ever in life, but thanks, I'm interested to learn
I welded up a 2x2 base for mine great addition
Your videos made me fast and safe. Thanks. Sand for life.
Thanks! Your instructions are better than what came with my new jack!
Living the dream mate, you've got your jack, got your ute and your dog, man is living
I found one of these in the forest near my house cleaned it up for it working and decided to see what I can do with it. Glad I found your video

You're the man. Probably saved someone's life with this video.
Great video. The emphasis on safety was really good to see.

Thanks for going over each and every feature/safety/application of this tool. Awesome presentation!!
Newb here - thanks for the in depth instruction and explanation of the hi lift jack. I realized I don't need one (until I add off road bumper, rock panels etc) and will look more to a come along. Thanks again! Love Team O'Neil!
Get an ez lift attachment, so you can lift from your wheels. Hi-Lift Jacks work great! I use mine all the time when I get stuck in deep snow.
Those are also called farm jacks for a reason. I have so many uses around my property: they can be used to jack tractor, shipping container, stumps.
Great video, man. I just got my hi-lift jack and didn't know any of this before ordering. Sure glad I outfitted my truck with bull bars, solid wheels and a hitch to get the most out of this jack.
Thank you very much for the detailed introduction. Even for me as a foreigner, everything was very easy to understand!
I used a high lift jack with the high lift mate that hooks into the wheel spokes to raise a stock 2001 jeep Cherokee high enough to get logs under the tire, from there we were able to get the jeep unstuck and back to camp.

One of the most useful videos ive ever seen.
Thank you

Great content had no idea they where so useless for a semi stock vehicle think I'll stick with other options
Thank you very much for the instructional video. It helped me a lot especially in safety operation. I use mine on occasion to remove stubborn posts or stumps. I love the Hi-Lift Jack. Well-made piece of equipment.
Great stuff mate, you just saved me from wasting my money, and doing myself a serious injury. Thank you 👍

The things that stand out in our memeories are the ones we learn from !
Great explanation! Thanks for the post
Best video on hi lift jack I ever seen
Hot damn. I need that truck.
Me too
sound advice and straight to the point.
Very well organized and presented information. Great job.
What a great video, you just saved me money! thanks!
Thanks for an honest review.
Awesome thank you! I have everything to pull my car out of a bog on my new property , I had the high lift jack but there are no points to lift from, I have the snatch and tree straps but no one to pull me, I have a tee near by so now I’m sorted!
Great video, one came with my wrangler and I've been curious about how to go about using it should I ever need too
That was a great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it. I just bought one and am probably going to return it and get a come along.
Great video, thanks!

You can get a tire lift kit. Really amazing.
Got mine for handwinching, pretty solid
Awesome Video
Can front tow hooks be used as a mount point?
hey thanks, mine got re ASSembled correctly, thanks to you
Outstanding!
It’s a great tool to have to mount on your Jeep to make it look like you know how to use it and do some really serious mall crawling.
I bought this to lift fence posts out of the ground but thought it would be useful for other things. Been like 6 years, still only use has been for posts.
Super helpful, thanks. Was thinking of buying but it just doesn't make sense now that I see how it really works.
So if I have an 11,000 pound 4x4 E350 camper van with 36" tires, what would you recommend?
Very well put together 👍
great video. I got a question though, with a stock vehicle, to life the vehicle up to change a tire, do you recommend to take along a hydraulic jack?
There is a hole in the lift tab of the Jack for a Shackle just like the top end of the jack has . Use that for attaching a long sling etc when pulling a vehicle out of a hole ... One slip of the jack or some other weird movement will cause the sling eye to go slack and slip of that lift tab. Truck stuck in a very difficult spot ? Use a 2:1 pulley system with the Jack. Great summary.
how do we use it if you get a flat tire on a uneven off road trail ,or what of jack will work best
Good demonstration on how use a hi lift Jack. Thanks
What a great video. Thanks for the safety tips!

The hi-lift is easily the fastest and most effective jack. Get the liftmate, treat the hi-lift with respect and you will be fine
A 12 inches length of 2 inch PVC, with a cap on it, slid over the vertical rail of the jack, helps protect your head, fenders and such from being damaged.
Great video, thanks for the info

Nice use of "purchase" in terms of the lift grabbing effectively where it's mounted!! I'm surprised at what excites me sometimes, lol

sure saved we when i had to fix my dock after winter ice destroyed it. Pretty handy.

Very useful video. Thanks!
Very informative
Thank U
Great video
Thank you
Thank you so much!
Thank you! You rock!
Rear cross bar on the rear is doable if rear panel is removed it’s not set too deep
I've seen kits where you can use these with a chain and you don't have to keep reconnecting every four feet. You forgot to use it to pull fenceposts and tree stumps! ;)
That's the only thing I use them for.
Ha, same.
This is exactly what I'm about to do with it
Okay, but can we talk about those pants? What are they and where can they be purchased?
EXCELLENT VIDEO Thanks
It won´t damage/dent the door at all. Cause u can open the door and swing it out of the danger-zone. That´s what doors are there for, to be easily movable obstacles is their exact function...

Hey bro
What inch lift was you showing in the demonstration?
Beautiful looking Toyota
When the shortcomings of a tool exceed the advantages, those need to be made plain and clear. Exactly the case with a Hi Lift. I don’t hate them, but they’re only useful under a very specific set of circumstances
DAMN that Yota is SWEET
Jdm tight yo
Thank you 👍🏾
Thank you...really helps..👍🙌
Great tool. keep it lubed keep it covered and it will get you out of trouble when needed
So basically buy a different off road jack. Got it, Thank you !

My dad and I use these to level mini barns.
Top stopper removed of course
