It's hard because its so iconic that Tony Stark and RDJ is synonymous now. Even in Oppenheimer when he played Lewis Strauss, it still looked at moments like Tony Stark.

Doom reading the darkhold to possess his look alike variant body? In the movie, it has to be same exact characters that exist in the other multiversal plane inorder for one to possess the body. This wouldn't make sense.

It would be hella interesting if the Avengers of 616, who remember the Sacred Timeline variant of him as a tyrant and a liar, simply refuse to join him because of his putrid reputation and join Doom instead because he's a variant of Tony, who's remembered as a selfless hero. However, Loki would be able to recruit heroes from other universes who haven't had terrible experiences with their universe's Loki, such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four (who might already be wary of Doom from their previous experience(s)). Avengers vs x men would be a cool project, but not for the secret wars plot. When you put their strongest characters from the two factions it's gonna be Jean Grey Phoenix & Wanda Scarlet Witch. I personally think they are too OP for the MCU for now. People would rather see these guys team up instead of watching another civil war. If Hope Summer isn't gonna be introduced as a character then we wont be expecting this plot in a while.

The only way this will work for me, RDJ has to be masked from the beginning. We know who is behind the mask, so there is no reason for a dramatic reveal. The only way to do the character justice will be the writing because we know RDJ can act.
I agree. I would not have revealed RDJ as Dr. Doom until midway through Doomsday. Then it opens up the possibility of him being someone the Avengers think they can trust because they “know” him, but in reality he’s the biggest enemy they’ve faced.
If they ended up having him in the new Fantastic Four movie but kept him masked for all of it then the film might have more of a chance of standing more on its own, not like how distracting it could be going back to the 2000s F4 movies and just seeing Chris Evans' Cap in the Human Torch, though those movies have the excuse of being made before the MCU started.

If you look at the logos Avengers doomsday is green. Secret wars is red and gold.. could be that doom takes over a variant of stark while stark is stuck in dooms body. Secret wars Tony gets back to his body and ironman returns, fights along side the avengers joined by wolverine and deadpool. Something everyone has wanted to see for ever.

What does this mean for Kang then? Honestly, I hope Marvel Studios is just putting him on the back burner for now and they will use him again in the future. There's a universe in where Doom was a college student and his roommate was Tony Stark....not Reed Richards..... in this universe Doom Tricks Stark into helping create a machine that would supposedly give people telekinetic powers when it was a ruse all along and it was designed to allow Doom to swap bodies with Stark. I believe this is gonna be the basis for Avengers Doomsday
The most respectful thing they could have done to the character is let him be his own man, not connected to Tony Stark. That would be comic accurate. Making him a variant is a lazy, uninspiring creative choice that simply draws on the flaws of a different Stark. That's not Doom. That's a weak imitation that has to rely on our feelings for Stark instead of putting in the work to make him his own unique character. Still a bad idea, Colton. And to echo other comments regarding it being a way to make the most "comic accurate Doom possible"...that's laughable and utterly ridiculous.
I like Iron Man.. but if you are going to have a "evil" iron man.. it should be a proper evil iron man and stay away from Doom. Doom is a Legend, the kinda of thing you EARN the right to show, not "i inject this into my work to bring in the crowds". Ultron sucks he got shafted but you cant shaft Doom, i rather see the Xmen burn from being too passionate then see a failed Doom on the Big Screen.

Pretty sure the TVA is still wiping out Kang variants, but they're letting timelines live/grow. All versions of Kang getting wiped out means they can't take over the universe/tva, unleash the Kang multiversal war, and lead back to the sole sacred timeline. We'll still get a multiversal war, it's just going to be for a different reason other than Kang.
What Loki did is not a permanent fix he is essentially trying to buy time until another solution for the universes to coexist without incursions to happen. But it’s going to be impossible. And with two universes that should have naturally died (ie fox in Deadpool and Wolverine & mcu in the eternals) they are on a collision course. And RDJ doom is going to try and stop it his way and Loki is going to try to stop it another way and two multiversal teams are going to be created. That’s just a theory.
You guys aren't selling me on this... If he was a Stark variant, why not keep that a secret? It's an Avenger's movie. We dont need RDJ to sell tickets for that movie. Im still torn on this. They probably should have gotten a different actor to play Doom.
What i was thinkking also, near the end of Doomsday RDJ Doom gets slaughtered and we see the real doom and he says there can only be one and it ends. I dont know i just hope they come up with a huge wtf plot twist.

Respectfully, it doesn’t matter how passionate Colton can make himself sound about casting RDJ as Dr Doom and having a Tony Stark variant be behind the mask. This is, as most people understandably feel, not the best way to honor the character. His reasons are weak at best and are contingent on people feeling the exact same way as he does in order to make it work. It’s like forcing the wrong puzzle piece to fit.

And Kang the conquerer went by Victor Timely & He who remains in the MCU but was still just variants of Kang. Both can be true and it would almost need to be. The emotional arc alone would be too much for his face not to be shown and for him to be mistaken for Stark. He will be a variant.
It’s not a variant of Tony Stark. We know Infamous iron man story. It’s probably going to be a mix of that “What If” comic book called Demon in an Armor mixed with the newer secret wars storyline. If anything it’s a variant of Doom. Then soft reboot after secret wars with the fantastic 4, the newer casting for X-men, Avengers in the new universe after secret wars.

Personally I get the benefits to having A darker version of Tony Stark become Doom and become the villain of Secret Wars. I understand it. I don’t like it. I get that it’s a thing in the comics. I love the What If episode where T’Challa became Star Lord. I have the What If comic issue where Punisher became Captain America. Those are fun, no doubt! Why those work though is we’ve already seen both characters’ stories unfold normally prior to that. For the Tony Variant Doom theory to really work on screen we need to have already seen Doom AND Tony. Them doing this first kind of depends on that the viewer has already read the comics and know who Doom is, which that isn’t the case for everyone. I’m sure some people will get into the comics fully thinking Doom is just Iron Man from another universe. Then again, sure if they keep What If going past S3 for like a Marvel Spotlight or something and did the Tony as Doom storyline after doing Doom justice in the movie, I’ll gladly show my appreciation. But before we see variant of Doom we need to see Doom as he should be, not just give Tony Victor’s life and call him Victor. They can easily do an evil Iron Man in Superior Iron Man as an evil variant working under Beyonder Doom or God Emperor Doom. But Doom should be Doom before just giving us someone who acts like him. That’s my thoughts!
that's true, but he could simply be takin the name Victor Von Doom and be revealed to be a Stark variant later, it's not unlikely that he would want to shed the Stark name if this version of Tony fell on a darker path and moved to a different country, or maybe he was an orphan and was raised in Latveria by Cynthia and Werner Von Doom, etc, there's many ways he can technically be both.
He could be found or rescued as an infant in his and the fantastic 4’s universe when his parents are killed. They name him Victor and he has no recollection of ever being a “stark” until he enters 616 and they ( the avengers ) discover his face & call him Tony… but he will not even know or recollect who the hell Tony Stark is, and all hell breaks loose. Their referring to Robert Downey Jr. as, "Victor Von Doom" rather than simply, "Dr. Doom"-- could just be a semantic misdirect in order to keep fans guessing, and prevent us from knowing that he's actually a Tony Stark variant too soon/ before the studio wants us to.
I think it could be an if Ultron won Tony. The timeline splits after Age of Ultron after he drops the meteor and maybe kills the avengers or something. Tony becomes obsessed with fixing and makes a base in the crater of Sokovia which becomes latveria

I've seen a lot of coverage about this. Not one of the people talking about has mentioned that they fired Majors for minor legal troubles, and replaced him with a person who had much more major legal troubles in his past.
RdJ was employed in mid-00's (don't know when exactly he started working on Iron man but it was probably around 2006-2007) it was different time back then. Today with this whole metoo movement it is different. Although it sucks that mere allegations can get someone sacked (I'm not defending Majors because it seems that he did some bad stuff, just taking in generals). And for RDJ stay with marvel was also stay of his whole redemption arc in Hollywood.

And even though they gave him the Oscar they all made fun of him at more than half of the award ceremonies he showed up to last year. Given that there was just One court case for Majors and liabitly was a bit unclear, it would be nice if the same grace was extended to the Black man. Even if they clown him like RDJ, he still should be able to work. But what do I know. I expect people to be consistent, but that seems to be asking a lot.

It was a terrible mistake, a dumb one, to kill Iron Man. Colton is gonna find that a whole lot of people, including me, won't like replacing Iron Man with Dr Doom, not even as Infamous Iron Man. They should cast a new actor to be Doom, not RDJ. And according to a lot of rumors, the RDJ announcement is a misdirect; Viggo Mortensen is supposedly the actor who really is under contract to be Dr Doom. I hope that this rumor is true.
RDJ was paid 75 million for Endgame. No wonder every Marvel movie and show hasn't been good. Most of the money went to and will go to RDJ. That is the reason they killed him off.

And it's possible that there is more truth in the rumor of Viggo Mortensen being Dr Doom than there is in the official announcement directly from Marvel that RDJ will be Iron Man. Since the Fantastic Four First Steps film is still in pre-production, I think you're right that this Doom-Tony variant could live in that universe. While Galactus and Silver Surfer will still be the main antagonists, maybe Doom will show up in a post-credit scene.
A lot of good points made in this video. It’s an absolutely genius move to bring back Downey as an evil Ironman variant to finish out this saga, but aside from his ties to Secret Wars and the fact that this reveal made a killer comicon announcement(that completely overshadowed the great opening weekend D&W had) there’s no reason to drag Dr. Doom into this. Theoretically we probably get him for these two Avengers movies and then the role is recast when the universe reboots after Secret Wars. It makes so much more sense for him to play a Superior Ironman from Earth 838. Wouldn’t be surprised if we never see that universe again though.
They also said at the panel they needed the perfect actor to play Victor Von Doom, not just Dr. Doom, so I don't think it will be a true Tony variant and will be named Victor Von Doom.
Ill have to disagree there with Colton, because who he's describing isn't doom but rather superior ironman, making doom a variant of Tony would totally wash away the history that og doom has and his motivations to begin with

Tony was adopted, right? What if he was kidnapped as a baby and dropped off at the starks or shield removed him from his family to prevent a continuation of the families blood line. This variant could be tony if he stayed with his true family. Its a farfetched idea but it could be true.
I profusely dislike the “DOOM as a Tony variant” theory, it’s just awful and disrespectful to the DOOM character. I’m not super fond of this stunt casting in the first place, but I’d be more alright with it if DOOM is disguised as Tony or is from a different universe and just happens to look like Tony, so he can infiltrate the Avengers and crush them from within.
It’d be on-brand for DOOM to find a universe where he looks just like Tony Stark so he can destroy the Avengers. But I do agree DOOM has similarities to Tony. He’s Iron Man plus Doc Strange.

It's hard because its so iconic that Tony Stark and RDJ is synonymous now. Even in Oppenheimer when he played Lewis Strauss, it still looked at moments like Tony Stark.

Avengers vs x men would be a cool project, but not for the secret wars plot. When you put their strongest characters from the two factions it's gonna be Jean Grey Phoenix & Wanda Scarlet Witch. I personally think they are too OP for the MCU for now. People would rather see these guys team up instead of watching another civil war. If Hope Summer isn't gonna be introduced as a character then we wont be expecting this plot in a while.

The only way this will work for me, RDJ has to be masked from the beginning. We know who is behind the mask, so there is no reason for a dramatic reveal. The only way to do the character justice will be the writing because we know RDJ can act.
I agree. I would not have revealed RDJ as Dr. Doom until midway through Doomsday. Then it opens up the possibility of him being someone the Avengers think they can trust because they “know” him, but in reality he’s the biggest enemy they’ve faced.
If they ended up having him in the new Fantastic Four movie but kept him masked for all of it then the film might have more of a chance of standing more on its own, not like how distracting it could be going back to the 2000s F4 movies and just seeing Chris Evans' Cap in the Human Torch, though those movies have the excuse of being made before the MCU started.

What does this mean for Kang then? Honestly, I hope Marvel Studios is just putting him on the back burner for now and they will use him again in the future. There's a universe in where Doom was a college student and his roommate was Tony Stark....not Reed Richards..... in this universe Doom Tricks Stark into helping create a machine that would supposedly give people telekinetic powers when it was a ruse all along and it was designed to allow Doom to swap bodies with Stark. I believe this is gonna be the basis for Avengers Doomsday
The most respectful thing they could have done to the character is let him be his own man, not connected to Tony Stark. That would be comic accurate. Making him a variant is a lazy, uninspiring creative choice that simply draws on the flaws of a different Stark. That's not Doom. That's a weak imitation that has to rely on our feelings for Stark instead of putting in the work to make him his own unique character.

Pretty sure the TVA is still wiping out Kang variants, but they're letting timelines live/grow. All versions of Kang getting wiped out means they can't take over the universe/tva, unleash the Kang multiversal war, and lead back to the sole sacred timeline. We'll still get a multiversal war, it's just going to be for a different reason other than Kang.
What Loki did is not a permanent fix he is essentially trying to buy time until another solution for the universes to coexist without incursions to happen. But it’s going to be impossible. And with two universes that should have naturally died (ie fox in Deadpool and Wolverine & mcu in the eternals) they are on a collision course. And RDJ doom is going to try and stop it his way and Loki is going to try to stop it another way and two multiversal teams are going to be created. That’s just a theory.

Respectfully, it doesn’t matter how passionate Colton can make himself sound about casting RDJ as Dr Doom and having a Tony Stark variant be behind the mask. This is, as most people understandably feel, not the best way to honor the character. His reasons are weak at best and are contingent on people feeling the exact same way as he does in order to make it work. It’s like forcing the wrong puzzle piece to fit.

It’s not a variant of Tony Stark. We know Infamous iron man story. It’s probably going to be a mix of that “What If” comic book called Demon in an Armor mixed with the newer secret wars storyline. Personally I get the benefits to having A darker version of Tony Stark become Doom and become the villain of Secret Wars. I understand it. I don’t like it.
I get that it’s a thing in the comics. I love the What If episode where T’Challa became Star Lord. I have the What If comic issue where Punisher became Captain America. Those are fun, no doubt!
Why those work though is we’ve already seen both characters’ stories unfold normally prior to that. For the Tony Variant Doom theory to really work on screen we need to have already seen Doom AND Tony. Them doing this first kind of depends on that the viewer has already read the comics and know who Doom is, which that isn’t the case for everyone. I’m sure some people will get into the comics fully thinking Doom is just Iron Man from another universe. Then again, sure if they keep What If going past S3 for like a Marvel Spotlight or something and did the Tony as Doom storyline after doing Doom justice in the movie, I’ll gladly show my appreciation. But before we see variant of Doom we need to see Doom as he should be, not just give Tony Victor’s life and call him Victor.
They can easily do an evil Iron Man in Superior Iron Man as an evil variant working under Beyonder Doom or God Emperor Doom. But Doom should be Doom before just giving us someone who acts like him. That’s my thoughts!

that's true, but he could simply be takin the name Victor Von Doom and be revealed to be a Stark variant later, it's not unlikely that he would want to shed the Stark name if this version of Tony fell on a darker path and moved to a different country, or maybe he was an orphan and was raised in Latveria by Cynthia and Werner Von Doom, etc, there's many ways he can technically be both.
Well one way is that the makeup artists could make him have a scarred face and look so different so cosmetics won’t be an issue
He could be found or rescued as an infant in his and the fantastic 4’s universe when his parents are killed. They name him Victor and he has no recollection of ever being a “stark” until he enters 616 and they ( the avengers ) discover his face & call him Tony… but he will not even know or recollect who the hell Tony Stark is, and all hell breaks loose. He could literally be raised with victors same back story , with just a retcon on his actual birth parents & him being taken in by the von dooms 🤷🏾♂️

Their referring to Robert Downey Jr. as, "Victor Von Doom" rather than simply, "Dr. Doom"-- could just be a semantic misdirect in order to keep fans guessing, and prevent us from knowing that he's actually a Tony Stark variant too soon/ before the studio wants us to.
I think it could be an if Ultron won Tony. The timeline splits after Age of Ultron after he drops the meteor and maybe kills the avengers or something. Tony becomes obsessed with fixing and makes a base in the crater of Sokovia which becomes latveria

Doom never shows his face so it's just RDJ playing a different character to get interest and speculation, not a variant issue.
I've seen a lot of coverage about this. Not one of the people talking about has mentioned that they fired Majors for minor legal troubles, and replaced him with a person who had much more major legal troubles in his past.
RDJ's crimes were hurting himself. Jonathon Majors crimes were hurting other people.
RdJ was employed in mid-00's (don't know when exactly he started working on Iron man but it was probably around 2006-2007) it was different time back then. Today with this whole metoo movement it is different. Although it sucks that mere allegations can get someone sacked (I'm not defending Majors because it seems that he did some bad stuff, just taking in generals). And for RDJ stay with marvel was also stay of his whole redemption arc in Hollywood.
@@oskarskalski2982 They still clown him about what he did. He was very destructive in and out of court. He might feel a certain way about it, but he did it. And even though they gave him the Oscar they all made fun of him at more than half of the award ceremonies he showed up to last year.
Given that there was just One court case for Majors and liabitly was a bit unclear, it would be nice if the same grace was extended to the Black man. Even if they clown him like RDJ, he still should be able to work. But what do I know. I expect people to be consistent, but that seems to be asking a lot.

It was a terrible mistake, a dumb one, to kill Iron Man. Colton is gonna find that a whole lot of people, including me, won't like replacing Iron Man with Dr Doom, not even as Infamous Iron Man. They should cast a new actor to be Doom, not RDJ. And according to a lot of rumors, the RDJ announcement is a misdirect; Viggo Mortensen is supposedly the actor who really is under contract to be Dr Doom. I hope that this rumor is true.

And it's possible that there is more truth in the rumor of Viggo Mortensen being Dr Doom than there is in the official announcement directly from Marvel that RDJ will be Iron Man.

Since the Fantastic Four First Steps film is still in pre-production, I think you're right that this Doom-Tony variant could live in that universe. While Galactus and Silver Surfer will still be the main antagonists, maybe Doom will show up in a post-credit scene.
A lot of good points made in this video. It’s an absolutely genius move to bring back Downey as an evil Ironman variant to finish out this saga, but aside from his ties to Secret Wars and the fact that this reveal made a killer comicon announcement(that completely overshadowed the great opening weekend D&W had) there’s no reason to drag Dr. Doom into this. Theoretically we probably get him for these two Avengers movies and then the role is recast when the universe reboots after Secret Wars. It makes so much more sense for him to play a Superior Ironman from Earth 838. Wouldn’t be surprised if we never see that universe again though.

Tony was adopted, right? What if he was kidnapped as a baby and dropped off at the starks or shield removed him from his family to prevent a continuation of the families blood line. This variant could be tony if he stayed with his true family. Its a farfetched idea but it could be true.

I profusely dislike the “DOOM as a Tony variant” theory, it’s just awful and disrespectful to the DOOM character. I’m not super fond of this stunt casting in the first place, but I’d be more alright with it if DOOM is disguised as Tony or is from a different universe and just happens to look like Tony, so he can infiltrate the Avengers and crush them from within.
It’d be on-brand for DOOM to find a universe where he looks just like Tony Stark so he can destroy the Avengers. But I do agree DOOM has similarities to Tony. He’s Iron Man plus Doc Strange.
