Quick recap on what's new in the ROG Ally X! ROG Ally X and ROG Ally Z1 Extreme both have the same Z1 Extreme processor. Main differences are: RAM: ROG Ally X has faster RAM and more RAM overall (24GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM vs 16GB LPDDR5-6400 of the original Ally) Battery: ROG Ally X has 80Wh battery - huge improvement from 40Wh battery of the original Ally Motherboard: ROG Ally X has a completely redesigned motherboard. I'm guessing this contributes to how they fixed the broken SD card reader dilemma which was a problem in many original Ally units. Whether it's fully fixed or not - we'll have to wait and see. My guess is that it won't be an issue in the Ally X. See the motherboards in this video: ua-cam.com/video/9iHmnSGUPqI/v-deo.html Cooling: They added an additional cooling hole in the Ally X shell. New thinner fans, which ASUS claims leave more space for air to pass between each blade "while still increasing overall airflow by 10%". They also say "Up to 24% Airflow improved", I'm guess that means for the entire device. Whether those numbers are accurate, we would need to see a video on how exactly did they measure it. SSD: ROG Ally X has a full size 2280 M.2 SSD. You get 1TB of storage by default. SSD can be swapped much easier. Thumbsticks: I liked the thumbsticks in the old Ally better, but the ones in Ally X should be more durable according to ASUS. Thumbstick modules are now also swappable, meaning you can replace them easier. As an example, some company could design Hall Effect sticks replacements for the Ally X and you could upgrade the sticks in the future. ROG Ally X is basically a ROG Ally Remastered. It's definitely better than the original Ally. In terms of FPS, there isn't a huge improvement, but there is SOME difference. However, there is a huge difference between Z1 vs Z1 Extreme processors.
I seen videos how to update 16gb RAM to 32gb and 64gb lpddr5x on based rog ally. I think it's more better choise, when bye a new handheld (for those people, who have old rog ally with z1 extreme). For new gamers Rog Ally X - better choise.
I'm getting the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. The ROG Ally X is better, but not enough to justify the £300 price difference, as the performance difference in games is very small.
thunderbolt plug is expensive. a tb3 egpu enclosure without a case costs about 200€ here. but I dont need to pay 3000€ for asus custom gpu. I can simply plug in any desktop gpu, which justifies the price. also the faster ram and +8gb ram extra are nice. also like.. double the battery so.. yeah u see.

It's waaaaay lighter too. Thinner as well. But the upgrades are substantial. I have both. Not at full price or anything. Some buyers were interested in trades and I even traded a standard steam deck LCD for a extreme because the owner only plays indie games and Z1 extreme being overkill. They all provided receipts as well. It cost me nearly nothing for such a large bargain. All in all I prefer playing on the z1 extreme and the X for more reliable competitive gaming.

Hey, what capacity does your power bank hold? And how much extra gaming time does it give you? In demanding games lets say. I'm thinking I'm better off just buying a Z1 extreme and a powebank lol. Thnx in avance

Playing on 30w turbo mode I can do about 100-120 minutes on demanding games with the power brick and then another 60-70 on internal battery @ 25w.
it charges so fast battery life has honestly never been an issue for me. Everyone seems to give gaming laptops a pass for battery life because "its a gaming laptop, its always bad" but hold the Ally to a higher standard even though it gets better battery life gaming than many laptops do. I'll be keeping my Z1 Extreme until a true successor comes along, then I'll be first in line. I got a 4TB drive in there with a 2280 adapter, and shaved down the back plastic to fit a SSD heatsink. its a beast now. I just checked it yesterday and have over 2500 hours run time on it in about 8 months.. I have 2 TB of emulation on it, from the oldest, up to 360/PS3/Sw1tch, efforlessly playing through a front end to manage it all. Easily one of the best devices I've owned. And I Dont even like asus really, their use of liquid metal destroyed the last gaming laptop I had and I'll hold that grudge forever lol.
The 2280 adapters for the base rog and Z1E are like 10 bucks doodt. And its really easy to do. I have a 4tb 2280 in mine with a copper heatsink added. minimal modifications only for the heatsink, had to shave down a couple plastic posts in the back. But you can install a 2280 without heatsink and no mods needed besides the drop in adapter. Theres space in the unit like it was designed for a 2280
I picked up an open box z1e at Best Buy for $440 that I could be convinced was never even used. You should consider this if you plan to play plugged in mostly like I do. I'm upgrading the thumb sticks to "hall effect" to improve the resistance and precision. This should hold me over till the Ally 2 comes out.
What would you recommend is it worth upgrading my ROG Ally to a Rog Ally X for the performance. is it more stable with the extra Ram. also is upgrading my steam deck to a steam deck oled another route I could go? which is a better upgrade and is either upgrade worth the massive out lay of cash. Got a new open box ally z1 extreme for 400$ was tempted to get legion go at 500 but like ally😮form factor better and I can't justify paying double for the x
You can run 53 watts for like 10 seconds and 43 watts for 2 minutes but it can cause thermal throttling 😊 it's in the command center top one is 30 max sustain wattage then 1 or 2 minute boost and the 53 watt 10 second boost . I leave mine around 30/35/45 or 22/22/25 is my performance setting If I want some battery life😊 it all depends on how demanding your game is your playing and your graphic preference 😊
The old one does not lack in brightness. Its annoying how when something even 10% better at whatever it is comes out, people act like the previous one was not good enough. You see it most on phones, "oh that camera is trash on the new samsung". It was the best camera that came out last year, and the best one that ever existed on a phone in human history up to that point, but the new one is 10 percent better SO ITS TRASSHSSHHSHSHSH
I just sold my deck OLED and Fallout 4 did not ever reach 90 fps….not sure how this guy got it to run that smooth. My legion go runs it far better than it did on my deck. lol
I am noticing a tendency to want to make the legion go look even less powerful than the deck, I had the ROG ally Z1 extreme to be able to buy and the legion is a little better at around 5% in some games just because of its faster ram and if you have the new BIOS it is even more stable.@@Acidblack027
I got the Steam Deck OLED back in January and never even considered a windows gaming device. Love the Deck, but… The ally X has completely changed the way I feel about the windows handhelds. Aside from the initial set up and all the updates I love it so far.
How do you think future games although for 2 next years will work on Rog Ally X ? I think about games of 2024 like God of War Ragnarok and Assassins creed Shadows and also future games like new tomb raider, the Witcher, mafia, prince of Persia, Far cry etc... ?
@@PiotrKowalski-jw1kn depend how many watts you are going to allow the APU to pull. Overall though letting it use turbo on particularly demanding games should make it hold up pretty well over the next two years. Mine can hold 60fps with quality fsr on 900p cyberpunk with over 800 mods. Only game it struggled with was dragons dogma 2 but my desktop hardly runs that well due to poor CPU optimization.
Do you recommend I buy the rog ally z1? In my country it is difficult to get the new consoles without having to pay hundreds of dollars for taxes and aduana...😢
I would say ally but for ease of use the box ! If your familiar with window pc gaming then get the ally . But the series s is a beast in itself especially getting developer license for 10 $ from Microsoft. Then it opens up the emulation side that makes the series s awesome. Once again you need to be familiar or watch you tube to figure it out . I got a 4 tb hdd full of ps2,xbox,GameCube,psp,Gameboy and other old retro stuff on my series s .
The difference between rog ally x and rog ally z1 extreme is the brightness and the battery. The performance is just the same 😍😍
Check 1% FPS difference, it’s massibe
The old one does not lack in brightness. Its annoying how when something even 10% better at whatever it is comes out, people act like the previous one was not good enough. You see it most on phones, "oh that camera is trash on the new samsung". It was the best camera that came out last year, and the best one that ever existed on a phone in human history up to that point, but the new one is 10 percent better SO ITS TRASSHSSHHSHSHSH
Peppa pig not even 1000 fps. I’ll stick to my Nokia n-gage
what about the duration of the battery?, which one is hold on longer?
Plz test the last of us on 8gb if vram bcz that consume a lot of vram so it will make sence to buy x or stick to original
I am better off with my ally z1e paired with anker 737 than the ally x with that price tag.
How much extra gaming time does that powebank give you? On a demanding game?
3 hours.
@@LianCasablacks 3-4 hours
Why are there significant differences on the display? Is it just the camera settings?
You got to be jokin buddy. What differences do you expect to see at 20w anyway???
Alguien puede, por favor, explicarme a qué se debe esa diferencia de colores en comparación con la Rog Ally X?
ROG Ally X has better graphic performance.....better dynamic range and colours
Also around $200 more exoensive😊
You should run the test at the device native resolution since that's what they selling 😅
black friday now its 200 dollar cheaper for Z1 extreme, maybe shall wait for next black friday rog ally X is going cheaper or with for 3.5 AMD 890M
what is that, the temperature difference is very different in the GTA V game between the rog x & rog z1 ex, 10° different?
Entire cooling system, different fans has been reworked in the ally x
It can it play Hello Kitty Island Adventure 2?
GUYS WHO HAS THE NORMAL ALLY DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING RATHER DO IT LIKE ME WHO UPDATED THE RAM BY PUTTING 32 GB RAM.. IT'S A JOKE 🇮🇹☝️🙏🇺🇸
Update ram?
@@soccerzz5 yeeesssss ☝️🙏
@@alexandergozzi25 i'll find a tutorial on how to update ram, planning to buy a normal Rog Ally this month 👍🏻
@@soccerzz5 Of course I did it via a video, there is also one for Lenovo Go, I think I will do it for that too..
@@soccerzz5 Yes bro but you have to know how to deal with these things otherwise you risk ruining the ally
There's 40w turbo mode on the Ally Z1 Extreme? How?
What do you mean?
Fallout 4 must’ve been super optimized on deck lol
I just sold my deck OLED and Fallout 4 did not ever reach 90 fps….not sure how this guy got it to run that smooth. My legion go runs it far better than it did on my deck. lol
I am noticing a tendency to want to make the legion go look even less powerful than the deck, I had the ROG ally Z1 extreme to be able to buy and the legion is a little better at around 5% in some games just because of its faster ram and if you have the new BIOS it is even more stable.@@Acidblack027
Can you please do Fortnite and genshin test
Try The Last Of Us Part 1 on both Allys. That's a very demanding game on the GPU and performs poorly
thank you
Im struggling between The ally X or steam deck oled. I travel a lot and im searching for the best one. I dont want to feel bad about my purchase 😂😂
I got the Steam Deck OLED back in January and never even considered a windows gaming device. Love the Deck, but… The ally X has completely changed the way I feel about the windows handhelds. Aside from the initial set up and all the updates I love it so far.
So basically more VRAM doesn't do absolutely nothing
Funciona mas caliente la nueva????????????????????????????¿??????????????
Come on only 1-2 fps on rdr2 what kind of upgrade is that better get d Ally z1extreme just ignore d F***g X just great n wasting money…
Check 1% averages, that’s what makes games smoother
The colors are the biggest difference in my eyes 😂
Would yo recommend z1 non extreme for 350?
Yes
Maybe 275 at 350 can get the z1e
Where?
@@LuisPerez-5 Best Buy on Black Friday
Same thought. I just need a secondary device to play in 720p playing rpgs in bed.
Is it possible to put SSD 4TB in Asus Rog Ally X ?
replying on an ally x with an 8tb ssd so yes it is.
I dont see the difference in any of them, like you have to really nitpick things out.
To be honest none of these gameplays look bad
Can mod the games in Rog ?
I just dont think handhelds are there yet...
What are you talking about ? That’s pretty impressive for a handheld that you can take wherever.
Do you recommend I buy the rog ally z1? In my country it is difficult to get the new consoles without having to pay hundreds of dollars for taxes and aduana...😢
Yes, just lower the resolution
Does 30 fps is playable???
On these smaller rog it's good I have the z1 non extreme and I run dying light at 50ish fps so 30 is fine I play 30 on hell let loose just fine
Yes
Xbox series s or Rog ally which will be better option?
ROG Ally
I would say ally but for ease of use the box ! If your familiar with window pc gaming then get the ally . But the series s is a beast in itself especially getting developer license for 10 $ from Microsoft. Then it opens up the emulation side that makes the series s awesome. Once again you need to be familiar or watch you tube to figure it out . I got a 4 tb hdd full of ps2,xbox,GameCube,psp,Gameboy and other old retro stuff on my series s . I can also use it on my ally 😊
Get both
tnx
One X mini is Beast
hmmm, i'll stay rhen.
I came here for Peppa pig
Forza se ve mejor en el Z1 extreme
it's a shame that they made new version only in black version
Ehh, I'll stick with my 3DS
test minecraft
Wow $800 for 1 more fps lmao
Xbox series s tho
Make a giveaway, an I win, pls
Rog ally x looks like this time is the big loser
