Hi Ali!!! I can relate to you on Porter’s unusual calm personality. I have a very small dog, not even 3lbs (teacup poodle) and I was shocked on how calm she was all the time and not bothered by food on the bowl. Maybe due to their small little bitty bodies, they just naturally sleep more and are calmer than what we expect of a dog. My little one is almost 3yrs old and still loves sleeping more than anything else. She’s very affectionate and loves to play but I guess she does not have enough energy on her body to withstand being as energetic as a normal sized dog! Congrats on Porter, he’s beautiful and adorable, and standing ovation to your camera work!
When he runs the tail goes one way, the ears go another way and it looks like the paws go four different ways!

We hung a set of Sleigh bells from the door and the dog reaches up with his paw and shakes them when he needs to go out for a wee!
Same - I couldn’t toilet train my dog until I introduced the bell then toilet-trained within about 48 hours. Such a great tool!

I’m not a dog trainer, but I’ve kennel trained all my dogs. One of the rules of been taught is not to feed the dogs in the kennel or have the potty pads near the kennel. Just thought to pass a long. 😃
Same. And that it should only be big enough for them to get up and turn comfortably. If they have room to use the restroom with extra space to go sleep, some dogs will do just that 🖤
I agree...he shouldn't be fed next to where he sleeps.
I agree they don’t normally like to mess there bed, but I think feeding them in their crate stops them thinking that that is there bed!!

I’m definitely a dog person, mainly because they are the most adorable ever and what I grew up having, but also because I’m very allergic to cats, unfortunately! I love cats but don’t know if they sense that or are just terribly ornery and gravitate to me just to watch me sneeze uncontrollably! But if I go anywhere where there are cats, they seem to seek me out! 😂🤷🏻♀️🤧
Porter is incredibly adorable! I love that you show him galloping along in slow motion! His little legs and feet plodding along in a variety of directions! Sooo precious! I’m so happy he’s a cuddle bug for you! I have a rescue who will only love on people if they have food to exchange for her affection. But each dog has their own idiosyncrasies and personalities and show their love differently! Please keep the puppy footage coming... and kitty footage too! I’m so proud of Lumi for being a good and tolerant big sister! 🥰🥰🥰
Bee vision is both crazy and cool. Porter-puppy-slow-motion-montage was a wonderful introduction to the little guy--he's just so handsome. Looks to be a long tailed tit at 14:03; varying types of seeds (sunflower, nyjer, etc.), adding suet, or even dried or fresh fruit will attract new winged visitors..and maybe some unwanted critters too...just depends on your area I suppose. Nocturnal southern flying squirrels frequent my sunflower seeds at night, but I don't mind enough to take the feeders down. Enjoying this wildlife and pet filled vlog! K, back to your puppy loving.
Porter is such a cutie! 😍 Just a word of advice from a dachshund mama - you will probably never be in full control, as Dachshunds are very smart and independent, and were bread to make decisions on their own. Consistency and positive reinforcement have worked wonders with mine, but accidents around the house still happen after 12 years. That said, they are adorable and I would have many more, if I could!

My fiancé and I rescued a kitten this past August, and I kept walking into him in the middle of the night because he blends into my flooring. Now he’s apprehensive towards me as a result. Luckily for you, dogs seem more resilient (I’ve owned 2 in the past). You both are doing an amazing job with Porter! So happy Lumi is bonding with him. Congratulations on your new family member 🤗

I loved beekeeping I had three hives on our 37 acre farm for quite a few years. They are just the most beautiful lovely things to work with I bought a centrifuge for removing the honey from the comb it just is the most fun you will find it so enjoyable! The bees when swarming are full of honey and less likely to ever sting anybody. When you smoke them they fill up with honey which keeps them from stinging!

We have a bell that hangs from the door which our puppy hits when she wants to go out for a wee!!! It is good being on the door where they are going out of!!! Also I have a soft crate for other places in the house that can have a bed in but you can zip up!!! Both were on Amazon juxxx

From a dachshund mom: stay very constant/on a schedule with potty visits and any training. Also, they love squeaky toys and play. You are the center of their world.
Here's a question? Do you have foxes, raccoons in your back woodland? or other predatory animals. Porter is so tiny I would be scared to let him out of my sight. Maybe down the road Lumi can escort him out for added security. We lost a toy poodle once this way. I don't mean to scare you, but just a concern from a Porter and Lumi fan.

I have a slightly naughty German Shepherd who as a pup would bring his empty food bowl to me in the living room for more. Over a year on, he still try’s it every now and then. His definitely out smarted some aspects of his training! So amazing seeing a dogs character come through... so excited for you both x

Why he has to eat inside the bed?
Do you feed the birds black oil sunflower seeds, we do and get lots of different birds, we have a large male cardinal every day and he mixes well with all the other birds. We trained our dog with the bell and he only rings when he needs to pee or poop, he only uses it we we don’t notice he is waiting by the door, good luck .
Cardinals are lovely birds, unfortunately we don’t have them in the uk

I’m a dog person, the only house cat I enjoy is LUMI, I’m very allergic to cats and most dogs, we have a mini poodle and she’s got hanging bells to go outside and does superbly with it, she’ll be two in March. Porter is precious and all of you seem so happy. xx

I love both cats and dogs...Both are so different from each other. There is a utube channel with two cats UNi and Nami who the owners rescued, anyway these things gallop on his hardwood floors and he has put the correct soundtrack to their galloping gait. Might try that for a little fun soundtrack with Porter? He is adorable and I'm so glad you came around to a puppy Ali. He will bring much added joy to your lock-down...hell, mine too. :-)

I taught my standard schnauzer to ring the bell to go out to go potty. 90% of the time she has to go, but a few times she does ring the bell to go out and just get a treat😅 Porter is adorable and a smart fellow 🥰

Hi Ali, firstly, loving the Bee 🐝 facts, how incredible that they can switch their sight to save energy, secondly the bird we saw was a long tailed tit, they are usually in groups, so there will be others around too, you are blessed with having all the trees around you which does encourage our feathered friends, Porter is an absolute joy to watch when you are filming him, loved the slow motion then the speed up you incorporated with the music 😉

Hey Ali. Why is he being fed in his crate?
So cute a new baby in the house 😊 With small dogs, they get cold very easily. Our Yorkie wears a sweater until it’s 75 degrees outside. Small dogs snuggle for affection and warmth.
In nature animals will not eat food if it is near their potty spot. This is a survival skill because of contamination. Small dogs do better eating small amounts every hour or so. I always leave their kibble out and give wet food 2-3 Xs a day. Little breeds are notoriously picky. They have small tummy’s and bladders.
Dogs are pack animals. They don’t like sleeping alone. If you put him in his crate in your room, that will make him feel less isolated. He has just left his Mom and siblings. Dogs are not as independent as cats. They want to be with or near you.
Most importantly, tiny puppies tend to get under foot. We have Always put a tiny bell on their collar so we hear exactly where they are at all times. Never leave him alone outside, a hawk or other predator will get him.
