All of this that you're talking sounds so good, so responsible! For first time dog parents you've really done your research and it sounds like you've found a lot of really good, important and sound information. Porter is a really lucky pup to have you as his family!

We had a cat similar to Lumi and when we got our dachshund she hated it. When he wanted to play with her we showed her that she could always jump up on the kitchen counter to get away. Making sure that she knew she always had a choice. After a while they started to sleep together in his bed🥰

I am working for a dog rescue organisation in Germany and am so pleased that you have thought this through! Also I wanted to quickly say, that in these corona times 50% more people decide to get a dog just because they are at home all the time and didn’t really knew how much time and effort having a dog takes. And so they give up (sometimes after having the dog 1 day) and give him to an animal shelter-.- So my point is, that you could maybe spread some awareness around the topic of corona and dogs, cause people really should commit to a dog and the min. 15 years of having kind of a child, also after lockdown etc. Much love 💕

Love this video and the sweetness of how much you both love him. Animals bring so much joy into our lives. I also love having watched you both over the years and how your relationship keeps getting stronger. You both clearly love and respect one another and your communication is strong. What a lucky boy Porter is to be a part of your sweet family. And so so happy that Lumi is adjusting. She deserves the best.

I love all things puppy/dog! I’m so thrilled for you both that your journey with Porter has been so thoroughly researched and has gone so well! Although pets are a tremendous responsibility and lots of work, to me the payoff in love and joy is so worth it! The footage you show seems to be indicative of the love and joy Porter has already brought to your lives! I couldn’t be happier for such a lovely family and so proud of Lumi for being such a good big sister! I hope they both become dear friends as well as “siblings”! 💗💗💗

I got a cat from a shelter who, I was told, was totally fine, just had a mild gingivitis going on, probably due to stress. As it turns out, he has stomatitis (autoimmune disease attacking his teeth) and had to have a tooth removed, with more coming in the future. Now I brush his teeth every day (won’t help much) and save money for the next operation. I would not trade him for anything or anyone, but I totally get why you went with the breeder. Porter is so freakin’ cute, btw 😊

Ali, your example about not assuming based on a version of events that you see is so true. I had a situation like this happen to me that ended up getting me fired from a job in my 20s. But ever since then I’ve always tried to look at situations from different angles and not make harsh/hasty judgments on things. On another note, how’s Porter doing with the new kitchen project? Is he like wait a minute, what happened to my room? 😂

She had passed out from her sugar level severely dropping and the other from being severely dehydrated. Bama ran to my dad in the den and barked and ran up and down the hall barking telling him something was wrong. They truly are the best dogs and they become almost human on how they love their owners so much. ❤️

Porter is adorable! Dogs love doing zoomies on carpet because of the great traction. Same thing happened with my hubby - he didn’t want to be tied down with a dog and now he doesn’t want to travel unless we can take our Yorkies with us.wait a year before getting another dog - you develop a much different relationship if you get two puppies together as the pups form the close bond with each other rather than with you.

I have two standard poodles. Coco was my first dog in my life. I wanted a very intelligent dog who would get along with my cat and African grey. My husband didn’t want another dog nor a female but Coco picked me at the pet shop. She bonded to both of us and is inseparable from my husband. He stole my first dog right from me❤. I had to get another. I hunted all over for another female poodle. Found a breeder two states away. We took Coco to help make that life choice. Coco picked Ginger Bear and they are bonded . They are always together. Coco is 11 now and Ginger is 8. They are brilliant! Oh they are both bonded to my husband. So much for not wanting a dog. He loves them so much and takes them to the beach every day. They are show stoppers for sure.

The way they went about it I think was great. It’s not like they bought it from a puppy mill which I assume is what you picture when you hear the word breeder. It’s a very regulated business to ensure rules are being followed for the health and welfare of the animals, and the consumer knows what they are purchasing. Realistically you would want the whole business of purchasing pets to be regulated with very little dogs to adopt. As adoptive dogs are the ones that are coming from unregulated places and that’s how you end up with so many needing homes. If it’s regulated and registered and producing only enough to satiate the market, then it’s a better way to do it... my opinion (not a pet owner, but contemplated owning a cat in the future)

A lot of people adopt pets from shelters in the UK, to the point that animals are now being imported from various European countries to be adopted here. Adoption is not the right thing for everyone. For example, I would not be allowed to adopt as we do not have a garden. I bought my dogs from breeders and they are all walked several times a day, and are perfectly healthy and well looked after, despite no garden to just throw them out into......As Ali said - it's all about perceptions.

You are both super emotionally intelligent and aware. I think this is the number one asset in creating a nurturing environment, and a proper home for all inhabitants. I wish more people functioned like this both in relation to children and pets and partners, and the the whole world actually. I know people with dogs who leave them home alone most of the time, I find this unbearably cruel but it is quite culturally normal.

I recognize that our opinions as viewers/subscribers regarding decisions you make in your home/for your family, holds absolutely no weight. However, I was not pleased with the idea of Winston. I, personally, felt like Lumi had gone through too much re the expectation for her to adjust to yet another cat. (Mind you, I am NOT fond of cats....At All. But, I seemingly fell in love with Lumi through the years, even from the old house you lived in. She's lovely) I was happier that you opted to get a dog. (Dog person, here) But also knowing that Lumi would possibly adjust better with a dog. Welcome to the Family, Porter!!😘

Interested to know why you picked this breed if you wanted to go on daily walks, as I am sure you've seen all the comments they're not supposed to be walked this young. x

I cannot begin to tell you how jealous I am. I would love a mini dachshund, but my husband would not be able to cope with another dog (we have a mini schnauzer already). And I couldn't cope with him not coping, so there we are. I just love seeing Porter on both your channels.

along time ago, when we lived in Singapore, we bought a computer software that choose the right breed of dog for us by answer questions.... This software choose "Shih tzu" on the top of the list that suits us and suits our life style... and it absolutely right....

I have a dog and a cat and they both sleep in the laundry room closed door every night and they love the routine. So much that when the dog goes for his last wee at night as soon as the dog comes back inside the cat runs on her own directly in the laundry room and the dog follows. From my whole life of having a dog and a cat I’ve learned what works best for me and my family. I can sleep great at night and so do the animals. As soon as I get up I,open the door and the dog knows it is wee time outdoor. The cat litter box is in the laundry room as well.

They will leave their pets alone for weeks on end...or probably get someone to mind them obviously 🙄

@@emu9520 I think they’ve clearly shown how responsible they are and how in love they are as furry parents. I’m sure they would like most pet owners have a few of options for the care of their pet family.

Lmfao "clearly shown responsibility" even though they had a cat for the span of a week, tried to immediately socialize it with another cat when a quick Google search highlights how that's exactly the opposite of correct.
      Sure buddy. Sure.
