    I took an Intro to Linguistics course online when I was at community college. I got an A minus in the end. When I transferred over to the university level, I declared Linguistics as my major. I was enrolled in an Intro to Linguistics and Intro to Phonetics course and failed almost everything the first ten weeks of the semester and withdrew from them. I changed my major to Anthropology but want to return back to Linguistics because I doubted myself. I know that I'm capable of succeeding if I simply ask for help. Sorry for the long response haha. How do you stay motivated to not change your major? Would you recommend that I switch back to being a Linguistics major? :)

      Hi Diego. Sorry to hear about your plight. Personally, I would never consider changing my major because of my desired career path. Also, the way I see it, nothing worth having is easy. My coursework is very difficult but that doesn't stop me from pursuing my goals. Whether or not to return to ling is your choice, but if you are confident in your ability to succeed in the major then maybe it's something you will seriously consider. Best of luck to you!

    A question..when you wanted to be a transfer student to community college when you applied to UCLA did they ask about your SAT ?

    • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege
      @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege  5 років тому +3

      Transfer applicants in the UC system are not required to take any standardized tests.

    Hi Hailey, I am currently an undergraduate student in Linguistics. But my GPA in my first at colloge was really bad its under 2.50 but in my 2nd year I got 3.50 but my overall grade is still low. And I want to pursue an academic career in Linguistics. I want to get a PHD for example. But I also need a scholarship. Do you think I would have a chance?

      Hi, I cannot comment on your chances of getting into a school because I am just a student myself. I would recommend getting into contact with an advisor at the school you want to go to.

    Can I ask a question? What community college should I take to transfer to UCLA in Linguistics? Not many colleges offer this major

    • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege
      @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege  Рік тому

      You're right that not many CCs offer it as the associates level. There's no specific CC to attend. There is more than one way to transfer and you definitely don't have to have an associate's degree in the same major as long as you complete as many premajor courses as you can before transferring.

      @Yahir_57 Рік тому

      i took one linguistics course online at a different cc and managed to transfer into Linguistics at UCLA!! Just as long as you have a good gpa, take the pre requisite class and a second language down your associates shouldnt affect you. For example, I graduated my cc with a business,economics, and political science assosicates, so again it should not affect you.

    Is linguistics a class that I should take? I’m a communications major but I need a fifth class. Also I just want a easy class.

    • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege
      @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege  4 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't take linguistics unless you are committed to it. It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

  • @СветланаКолодина-е3ш

    Hi) have you ever had Linguostylistics? Do you have any recommendations for a textbook on the subject? I have that subject next semester and I want to prepare a little, but unfortunately, I have no idea what textbook to use.

    How many upper division classes do you need to take for your major?

    • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege
      @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege  5 років тому +2

      I need 10 for appling, but UCLA requires at least 60 upper division units in order to graduate so I will probably take closer to 15.

      @Steven Lee that's simply not true. there is ample opportunity to get involved in research. the purpose of the UC system is to be a bastion of research. so no, there may not necessarily be job training (depending on what position you desire), but that is not the intent of the UC. if you want to get an education that will prepare you for the workforce you can go to CSU. if you want to be at the forefront of research in any given field, you go to UC. most employers will provide some sort of job training anyway. however, I held an internship where the responsibilities I had and tasks I executed were identical to full time employees at that company, and everything I did was basically what I learned in class. so in that sense you could say I did receive some job training. The linguistics department at UCLA is one of the best not only in the country but in the world, so I suggest you do some research before making these unfounded claims.

      @Steven Lee It's more about grit than luck. I applied to well over 80 internships/summer jobs. 3 called me back. Only one was interested in hiring me and it wasn't even for the position I originally applied for. It seems like you've been through a lot but don't give up! Nothing worth having is easy.
