Now THAT is a real makiwara. It's not simple a way to toughen the hand. It tests your alignment. I was lucky enough to meet a man in Redmond, Washington state that taught me how to build it. And if i had to pick just one form to do it would be Sanchin . No matter your style or approach is, it will make you a better martial artist . This same man would enter tournaments and usually do Sanchin and it was funny because 9 out of 10 times the judges didn't even know what they were looking out . The winner was always somebody doing flashy stuff. I met him because he did it every day behind his apartment and had dug a hole 4 inches deep from the footwork . I finally had to go talk to him . Glad I did.
Incredible technique. The alignment is perfect; and the way she uses her hips to snap through to the force at the end of the movement is phenomenal. Something to work towards, for sure!
@@zommellemmoz3999 Funakoshi Sensei spoke about stress patterns in the body need to be established to execute karate techniques radiating from the hara through the limbs like a spindle, expansion or contraction of force delivery through the technique. Sensei, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Those who have some understanding of what you’re doing appreciate you taking the time to teach us. Those who are willfully ignorant will always show up to say something, but you both handle everything with grace and humility; another lesson you’ve shared with us today. I’m not sure what drives an individual to watch an entire video just to say “it’s fake” or “wouldn’t work in the ring”, but I hope their interest is answered by someone who is willing to teach them how to defend themselves in an environment that is not bound by rules. I also hope those people continue to practice long enough to learn the other aspects of martial arts - the conditioning, the humility, the lifestyle, et al. Perhaps if they studied bunkai, conditioning, or just some kihon they would learn from you and understand what you’re doing here rather than talk down to people for pursuing their interest and sharing their knowledge with like-minded individuals. Alas, tolls exist in all times and places. Ignorance abounds and respect for others diminishes day by day. But, people like you and Paul Sensei continue to teach and make the world a better place day by day to hold the tide. Again, my thanks for sharing your knowledge
When ever you do iron hand training, your hands should always feel good, strong, filled with chi and never in pain. Always use proper liniment before and after. After doing iron hand training for years (decades), the hands should be preserved and not in pain nor have any callouses built up. The hands should be rock hard yet the skin should be silky smooth.

Its great to see a lady doing hand conditioning. Quite rare. There will no doubt be thoughts on alignment, stance, breathing and whatever, but if forced to use a strike in the street or any other place that stuff won't really matter anyway. Just the conditioned hands striking the attacker and getting the job done is all that really matters.

Thank you for your comment. The bag that the Sensei is hitting is a canvas bag filled with iron shot (a common piece of equipment for iron palm training). The brown coloration is from the herbal liniment that is used on the hands to keep them healthy. The exercise where the 'man' pushes and 'hits' is a common exercise of Okinawan Karate and is only performed on higher level practitioners. The purpose of the exercise is to develop a strong structure and resilience to impact (just like a boxer takes hits in training to the midsection), and concentration, among other things. Sorry if this was traumatic to watch.
