Good tips and I really liked the one about having them just do a walk away pose early on as yeah that would be a great time to set exposure and what not. 😁
Great advice, I'm just an enthusiast wildlife photographer, but had a request to do a senior photo shoot. I bought basic lights and a backdrop and the shoot went okay for my first, but it was a lot harder than I expected. The client was happy, but after reviewing the photos I realized there was a lot I could of done it better. I really enjoy an learn a lot from your videos, thanks!
Vanessa absolutely love your work love your personality great video never thought that I’ll have to watch an engagement video but I’m here for all the knowledge thank you.
Thanks for the tips, I love that you put info about working with videographers as well. I'm lucky enough to have my wife help with lighting so we usually connect with the couples pretty well :)
you mentioned a list of questions that you ask people before the photo shoot, but I don't see it in your list above. Did you post it maybe under a different name? I'd love to see it!
Darn you caught me sleeping in. Not first but still here. Excellent tips as always. Your mistakes make us better. Thank you for mastering your craft and sharing them with us!
The thing that always strikes me about your work Vanessa is how difficult it must be to photograph two people where one is taught to act and feel like a princess because it's their special day and the other is barely tolerating the whole thing and is only motivated by keeping the future wife satisfied enough to not make their life a misery. And of course you have to stay bubbly and happy through the whole process regardless of how difficult and awkward the husband makes the shoot. Sounds like fun.
Thank you for the tips great work! Just some well intended feedback that I hope is well received, I came here researching for a queer couples engagement shoot. I realize the couples in this video were, "he and she", and still it felt like your advice was exclusive presented in the terms, "he and she". Just a thought to consider sprinkling in some inclusive language like, "them" and "their" here and there.
That would absolutely be more inclusive, but since this couple preferred being called by him/her and I was watching this video while doing the commentary, that’s what I went with. Feel free to interchange as needed. :)
Great tips as always. I took a lot of notes during your NJ seminar last year, and unfortunately, I misplaced them. Btw, I got the 135mm and it is amazing on my EOS R, thank you for that video as well
Informative video, thanks! Do you have a tutorial or guide on how you use flashes and the reflector? Saw a couple of times you have your assistant hold the flash in the grass
Vanessa Joy thanks mucho!!!! Oh, I sent you a note on Instagram if you wouldn’t mind taking a look?

Sé que hablas español, por eso te voy a seguir escribiendo así para que no te 'oxides'. Demasiado buenos consejos Vane, un abrazo desde Costa Rica, espero vengas algún día.
Great advice - I like the idea of saying unexpected things to get a reaction. I noticed some your pictures with the 135mm were shot at f2.5. Do you find that is a sharper aperture, do you do it for depth of field, of another reason? I noticed when I took some pictures of speakers on stage with that lens at f2.0, I missed focus more than I should have. Of course, on zoom I never miss focus. :)
I looooove the 135 and it does take a bit to learn to focus at a shallow depth of field, though with new AF tech it's becoming easier. Here's my 135 vid: ua-cam.com/video/NRvdsDZoyaA/v-deo.html
Good information as always. Do you use the engagement photo session as a lead in to getting the wedding to shoot as well? Re good expressions Sal got some priceless ones from you in New York Rhapsody which is a wonderful video. Thanks Vanessa and Stay Sane and Well.
I would love to see the link for the 4-5 questions you mention that are supposed to be listed below...I clicked on every link below and did not see them. Thanks for sharing.
Really really good tips- thinking outside the triangle, get it- exposure triangle! By the way, what’s the name of your leather strap supporting the 1DXii?

Exactly :) they don’t need to watch us do that haha
