- Testing out the New Improvements of the Skywave SSB 2. I get a little extra gain when connecting the Kaito T-1 22' wire directly using the EXT ANT jack versus the Whip Antenna. C.Crane bundles the new SSB 2 with a Ground/Wire Adapter for Building your Own Long Wire Antennas.
If you can't wait, the Original SSB is a Great Choice at this Time.

Thanks Mr. Todderbert now I want a Skywave, a HAM radio and Ham license :). Thanks that was very cool.
Always fun to listen to chatter on the ham radio. I'll occasionally have my scanner listen to the ham frequencies in the window while I work.
Great video.
I love the upgrades.
[ unlike “some other” makers, they actually listened to their customers.]
📻🙂
Nice SSB Demo. I like the upgrades in version 2 of this radio. Thanks
It is fun to play around with the ham bands on my PL 330 or D 808. They are both very good on SSB. I was impressed because I had some pretty old radios that drift pretty badly on SSB. You can even put the QRZ app on your phone and then find out where your broadcast is coming from.
I also enjoy listening to the ham bands and occasionally post some videos. I hope you'll keep doing these videos in addition to MW band scans. 👍📻
If this is a DSP-based radio, then this is the best SSB reception that I’ve heard from that type of radio!
Looks like you're the first to show the new SSB 2 live and in action. Congrats 👏
Hey Todderbert! I love listening to those HAM chats on my CC Skywave SSB 1. I recorded a bunch of ham activity on there and burned it on CD -R. Can you do more ham chats? On Friday and Saturday late nights is the best time to listen to HAMS on the SSB. On the 3.860 khz and 7.200 khz you can hear jamming and funny foolish stuff on those bands that is operated by "Ham Clowns" lol. These hams tell great stories about anything that's happening in the world and they discuss entertainment like movies and tv shows. The only thing is missing from the Skywave SSB is the DTV (Digital Television) sound band.
Awesome HAM chat. I look forward to your review of this radio.
Very nice demo, that's a great sounding small radio on SSB, and the layout is very good. I like the upgrades from the previous version. Thanks Todd!
They are trying to make it even better. There are a few bugs yet, but I'll showcase them in an upcoming video before Black Friday :)
Besides the audio improvement, It seems they improved the AGC attack behavior, as well 👍👏👏
That rig sounds great and clear👍💯
Hej Todderbert thanks for the video interesting the C.Crane Skyway SSB 2 it will be very interesting to see your review of the new C.Crane Skyway and hear what you think i have been reading a bit about the new C.Crane Skyway SSB 2 and th new upgrades it has but very interesting to see it in action in this first video from you. Yup Todderbert Black Friday is here in Sweden now it's Friday night so I'm going to do some shopping gonna buy a new flashlight it's been a while since I bought a new flashlight it leaning towards a new Sofirn flashlight take care Todderbert and have a nice evening.
It looks like this model has now been discontinued a year later. What has taken its place?
They still sell it: ccrane.com/cc-skywave-ssb-2-with-am-fm-sw-wx-and-aviation-bands
I have the first generation of this radio, and I love it. Now a new version. Did you review it, and if so I must have missed it? Anyway, thanks for the chatter. Being a HAM operator, I enjoy little radios that do SSB. I have a mobile SSB ham rig in my van, but who wants to run out to the van when you are on the road in zero degree weather!
I'm doing a little comparison video of this radio vs the older SSB. There will be a wait for a full review.
@@todderbert I will be glad to see it. Thank you!
What antenna was being used here?
22' Kaito T-1 Wire run through my Balcony Door to the Patio: amzn.to/48yvrZL
Nice listening, do you used only the wire antenna ?? Gretings from Quilpué, Chile.
Yes, only 22' long, but I have it passing through my sliding door, and tied out to the corner of my small patio.
@@todderbert good sensevity, you can do the same whit the Tecsun PL-330 ?
@@horaciodelgado2017 Yes.
I don’t have any radios with SSB. I have been thinking of getting one. Would the Tecsun PL-330 be the best choice for the money?
For the Money, the PL-330 is the best for Entry Level SSB Shortwave Listening.
@@todderbert Thanks
Are you going to do a side by side? The original Skywave review was four years ago?
Yes, though it is mainly based on the new features, and if its worth upgrading to at this time. Expect that video to air before Black Friday.
Is this radio made in the USA?
Company USA, Radio China.
Ham radio is great for news. You can hear news that we are not told in America.!!😊
Real News no Eyecandy News on the TV.
I have been tempted to buy one for a while, but wanted to wait for reviews.. kinda scared that if I wait to long prices will go back up.
The radio is a bit expensive, but it is high quality .
I have all the radios in this category.
I have the older version, and it’s my second favorite radio, just under the Tecsun PL-880.
📻🙂
@@jeffking4176 I am on the search for my perfect radio. I thought it was the Eton 750, but to large for carrying around, then I got a Tecsun Elite Executive, and Tecsun PL-680, but still wanted something a bit smaller. I have some smaller but limited in features, such as the Tecsun PL-380. I think the Skywave 2 may be what I am looking for, tho I think it would have been a bit better with longwave as a feature, but I never use it so not a big loss. Thanks for your thoughts on it. I may order one today.
Hope the radios don't go back up to $400. Wat a miserable way to be a radio enthusiast during this time.
Besides the audio improvement, It seems they improved the AGC attack behavior, as well 👍👏👏
Is the SSB 2 for sale yet?
A first run expected December 16th, but watch for my original SSB vs SSB 2 video that should come out before then. There are some pros/cons that I will list out.
If you want some entertaining political and pure goofy action, you can go to 7.200 mhz, 3.860 mhz and 3.927 mhz. I call it the "Ham Clown" frequencies.
The hams talking about commercials on the tv, how about the damn commercials on You Tube, they're getting worse.
I just saw an ad for Fannie May, and got hungry for some sweets :)
