What camera manufacturer do you know that are this candid and honest with sharing the evolution of their product. To declare the original fp is better in low-light for film makers and has been evolved to compliment and not replace the original fp is impressive, particularly when most companies thrive on obsoletion. As an owner and admirer of the camera, I look forward to the revolution. Great questions, by the way. Well done.
L is for Landscape. Really hope the new firmware will improve UI for video. Love my Sigma fp. For me the Sigma fpl is for photography while the original fp is video (and photography).
@@jd5787 Yes, pdaf is nice, but the lack of a mechanical shutter is the issue when using it handheld with fast focusing (rolling shutter due to the Mpx count of the sensor). fp has contrast detect focusing.
Surely the real reason Sigma can't implement compressed raw is that RED will be all over them with patent lawsuits. ;) But Slimraw is doing a fine job reducing Sigma fp raw sizes, so they have this going for them.
Yeah, just compress it from your computer instead of the relying on the camera to compress it right away. The fact that the camera offers 12-bit true unadultured RAW is legendary and personally I so appreciate it.
Have an FPL on order, but still I am Foveon FANBOY! As it seems Sigma will not come out anytime soon with a full frame Foveeon, I would like to suggest that they team up with a good mobile phone brand and produce a half inch Foveon sensor for them. With all the bells and whistles a modern phone camera has, but it would be FOVEON :)
A universal EVF from SIGMA would be amazing, I buy it to be attached to my C70. I like to shoot with EVF it is much more immersive when you shoot. Please build one, thank you.
Is there any way to get exact numerical values for the rolling shutter at all the different crop values? You gave exact values for 1, 1.24 and 1.3 crops on your article which is greatly appreciated but looking at the graph it is hard to determine exact rolling shutter values at other crop values. I’m asking because I’m using these rolling shutter values in a post-processing rolling shutter correction program but in order to properly correct it needs an exact value. Thank you for your hard work!

@@mirrorlessny the compressed output of the fp is horrible bad and close to unusable. This camera was designed and made to be shot in RAW, like all other SIGMA cameras before. If you don't shoot RAW, please don't buy a SIGMA camera, it's not the right camera for you. You loose 85-98% of information by using compressed output. Sonys a1 for example drops from 15,5EV dynamic range down to 10EV and the XAVC HS codec saves 8K with an data rate of 600mbit/s compared to the 12'000mbit of 8K RAW that's a loss of 95% Du you shoot in JPEG when you take photos? SIGMAs 4K RAW looks better than Sonys 8K due to the heavy compression, don't choose the worse qualit just because 8K sounds better than 4k Quality over quantity
I'm looking for a fullframe camera the size of sigma fp. I really like the boxy design and the small form factor. I wouldn't mind if it was just a litte bigger so a bigger battery would fit. I wish it had a flip up screen, ibis and better auto focus. Also 61 MP is too much. 24 MP was just enough and wouldn't mind if it had 40 MP. 10 bit is also more than enough. Two hotshoes on top, one for the mic and for something else, like external battery, memory or schreen. Implement those things and you have the best camera. I would buy 3 of them.
Will there be a new video-centric FP camera any time soon? At least 4K 60P raw (CDNG, Braw, Prores Raw) no line skipping? Proper log profile 10bit 422 (LUT included) internally? Increased dynamic range (15 stops)? Way better rolling shutter performance? flippy screen? Full size HDMI? What are your thoughts, Anyone?? :)
The fp cameras are not suitable for still photography in any serious sense. Without a mechanical shutter, the fp has massive issues with banding in artificial light, the flash sync is unacceptably slow and the sensor readout speed is too slow to avoid rolling shutter issues with moving subjects. If the fp had a mechanical shutter, I would consider it. Without the mechanical shutter, it's a deal breaker as a stills camera. Totally unacceptable.
I really hoped for more and deeper answers but thank you for the interview. Further questions for would be like: Has the IQ been evolved? This has been a huge downside of the original fp. The S1 for example has a way cleaner Image while fp has colour artefacts. The huge sensor and the crop focus May seem not Bad but what is with the rolling shutter? What is with line skipping? Its truly sad that this hasnt been discused. And i am really concerned of the IQ in stills Mode. I havent seen any Real Sharp Image yet. (rolling shutter, high Pixel count demands steady Bands or IS)

Leave it to cine 5d as usual to ask all the questions but the ones that actually matter like: why for this price range did you make such a useless camera??? It can join Zeiss on the dust collector shelf of lens makers who made cameras no one wants.
